Once it's on paper it is considered "published" under the law. The reason you register it with the copyright office is to have hard proof that you own said copyright. Otherwise someone can argue in court that you don't own the "penman's copyright" aka you didn't write it. Copyright.gov papers avoid that argument for $60 per work.What will the damages even be for something that's not published?
You can even register in bulk if you have like 5 diff works that aren't on any marketplaces yet for $60. Once it's out there though it cost $60 each.
