All that said, Destiny still had potential, once the greats were gone. The guts I mentioned earlier were given life by the Grimoire/backstory writers, most notably for the Books of Sorrow. (Amusingly enough, there's even a grimoire card that points out Muslims are going to take over everything). All of it is amazing, and none of them were ever hired for the main games. Bungie instead hired fat women (not even joking) to make generic villains shout "NOOOOOO" or trans Yaoi robots ride surfboards.

It's insane how they pissed away all their good writers. Seth Dickinson wrote Books of Sorrow and I distinctly remember posts on his Twitter about Bungie not re-hiring him/paying like shit/etc.

The difference in quality between certain grimoire/lore bits and actual in-game storytelling+dialogue is astounding. One is intriquing and skillful while the other is bloated, pompous faggot bullshit about feelings written by self-congratulating Reddit Karens. It's fucking awful.

Destiny always had the "main story" dumbed down and all the juicy stuff in the lore. An understandable decision, even if I hate it--you have to keep the story pacing suitable for an action campaign.

It has only gotten worse as the game progressed. The levels of contempt I feel for Lightfall's story really cannot be put into words. It is unironically worse than 99% of fanfic that I've read.

By the time TFS came out my expectations were already rock bottom, so I don't feel as much hatred for it as I do for LF. LF was expecting an ice cream sandwich and biting into frozen diarrhea instead.
