A centrist position in this case would likely be something along the lines of, "Coomers are an audience and it's perfectly fine for games to appeal to them. This said, there is no guarantee that others won't shame or judge those people accordingly for those tastes." My thoughts are similar to this, and I mainly subscribe to the idea that shame needs to come back as a societal tool for degeneracy, rather than just banning a ton of shit. Dev in the past might've been the same, but I think he's too invested in warbling on and showing how smart he is and how big his word count can get to give any concise argument that doesn't lose focus or contradict itself.

Combine scared my parents a lot, so I'm kinda in that camp. Although it does seem like I'm an outlier. All my friends were big fans of Halo, COD and all the rest, despite being like... 7 or 8 when those games came out. Nobody's parents (except mine) seemed to care about video game ratings.

Having watched the video almost all the way through. I skipped some parts I felt were filler. My thoughts and a summary of his take.

Before I begin, a quick summary of GoonerGate. Some people, including MelonieMac and DreadRoberts, were anti woke and pro goon. Celebrating Stellar Blade, criticising wokeshit games, etc. Then a Twitter account posted a few second clip of The First Descendant with a woman in bikini armour dancing. Dread and Mac tried to claim that it was degenerate and pornographic. They got mocked on Twitter for it. Them and other right wing pundits tried to double down, and got mocked for it. The right threw a tantrum about taking a L like that.


He breaks the argument down to three sides. The progs, the tradcons (he says he hates the term "woke right"), and the libertine gooners. I wouldn't use the name libertine, I'd call it centre or normal people, and the tradcons are more Christian nationalists, but I'll use his naming for clarity.

Devs overall take seems to be fairly simple. That the libertines have to opposte the tradcons the same way they opposed the progs. That the tradcons like Dread and Trent were never really gamers and just saw them as allies of convience to be discarded now Trump is in office and the pendulum is swinging back their way. That trying to appeal to live-and-let-live freedom and pointing out hypocrasy won't work because the tradcons don't care. Broadly speaking I agree with this.

Breakdown of the video.
Devs video begins talking about GamerGate, Sweet Baby Inc, and Sargon. None of which is relevant. Skipped. 7:30 the video actually starts, talking about GoonerGate. He breaks each element down into X vs Y. eg. Dread vs SmashJT, Trent vs Savvy, etc.

Covers Dread vs SmashJT first. Does a good job. Pointing out how Dread was pro-cheesecake and pro-fanservice just a few months ago. Provides lots of recepts. Good stuff.

He then talks about the 90s and how it was the peak of live-and-let-live morality. How tradcons didn't like it at the time, pointing to the satanic panic and moral panic about video games.



Then there's the MelonieMac stuff. This basically boils down to her stretching the meaning of "pornography" to cover any kind of fanservice or cheesecake. Mac is a fan of Tomb Raider, which she defends despite being more risque than anything in First Descendant. He goes in depth about this. It's arguably filler but interesting so I watched it. Again, I broadly agree with Dev here.

What's interesting here is he says him and Vee were contacted by some autists demanding he post her fake nudes and expose her dirty laundry. Both him and Vee refused.



Then there's the Trent stuff. This is where the bulk of the video is. It goes over how Trent isn't a gamer, and isn't a nerd really. His passion seems to be for NASCAR, and maybe comic books. He sees gaming as a useful tool to push ideaolgy and is mad he got kicked from Bounding into Comic when he started pushing Jesus instead of talking about comics. I started to skip sections here because it's the same thing for nearly 40 minutes. I get he's providing receipts, but it goes on a bit.


Then there's the reveal. What Trend, DreadRoberts, and MelonieMac have in common. They are fairly recent converts to Christianity. Trent was a lapsed Catholic, and Mac came from a religous household but left. But each ran to the church after a personal tragedy. Trent married someone religious then "something happened in his life" that made him religious again. Dread lost a child and never got over it. Mac was cheated on by a scumbag streamer and moved back in with her parents. He puts forward the idea that this is why they're so dogmatic and autistic about it. This is 1:38 in the video if you want to watch that segment.

The final part of the video is mostly a repeat of earlier. Explaining repeatedly how religous groups (and progs) see immoral behaviour being permitted as oppression against them. And ends with the idea that libertines need to assert their live-and-let-live morality if they want to keep it.



Some other observations. He mentions how he has twelve major projects in the works. He mentions how there's "false bullshit" floating around the internet about him. I don't know what he means specifically, but if he means this thread. Hi Dev. There's little TDS this time. It amounts to whenever Trump is mentioned, he says how he doesn't support him but people can vote how they want.

Dev should actually learn from this and make vids on topics that don't easily trigger his TDS/RWDS. At the very least, it might save him some effort, not pivoting immediately to "but here's how RW does it too!"

If you want to be cynical, it might be because Goonergate was a right wing L to begin with, so he doesn't spiral off into TDS. I hope that's not the case and he's starting to get better.
