Legit question to all post to this thread. What could Dev do to help stop all the hate? Is there even anything he could do? Are all of you so tunnel visioned on your hate for him? Is there anyway for him to dig out of this? Also why is he considered a backstabber? I'm legit asking.
It's absolutely possible. It's not even that hard.
Own his fuck-ups, strive to do better, make amends to those he's wronged, and he's most of the way there.
The problem comes in when you realize what step one is; owning your fuck-ups - because Dev can't do this. It's not that he won't - it's that his own circle of associates will not accept him backsliding in directions of self-improvement. Self-improvement would take him out of the proverbial crab bucket and they can't allow that. Even if that wasn't the case though, Dev's shown no capacity for self-reflection or introspection at all.
We all fuck up sometimes. Sometimes in small ways, sometimes in big ways. That's normal. It's how we react to those fuck ups that defines us as people. Dev refuses to countenance the consequences for his fuck-ups until they're unavoidable, and even then, will mitigate, delay, and do everything possible to bury his head in the sand and pretend everything's fine, deny reality when necessary, and only when the truth is completely unavoidable will he deign to admit it, and even then he will do so partially, to evade as much responsibility as possible.
I don't know anything about Dev's personal background, so I can only speculate, but I do know from experience that this often happens with people who had altered development, and had to either grow up too fast or too slowly due to parental issues. Ultimately that only explains partly why he's like that, because the rest is on him.
Dev has repeatedly betrayed people's trust, misused information told to him in confidence, and intentionally misrepresented people's arguments in an effort to make himself look to be in a stronger position. It's infuriating because very often the means by which he got to his preferred position involved the most duplicitous shit imaginable and often stemmed from him betraying someone for spurious reasons - someone who he wouldn't have needed to fuck over if he wasn't desperately running from his own culpability. There's a lesson in this - be honest in your dealings with others. If you have beef, let it be known, but be honest about it. It's always the best policy.
Dev had best watch his ass, because there will come a time when he is in a vulnerable spot and if the situation warrants it, his associates will cheerfully use his spine as a cutlery block. And he will absolutely fucking deserve that shit.
