Disco Elysium - Insane Drunken Cop Simulator RPG GotY 2019

Skimmed the Eurogamer review and it didn't get a negative or a positive, just some whining and pussy footing around the game itself, nothing political just "it's too hard!" and a sense of "eeeeh this makes me uncomfortable". I've been interested in it for some time, how deep is the time investment/how long is a useful play session?
THE OCCIDENTAL PEDERAST CANNOT FORM A CONSENSUS, THE DEGENERATE JOURNALISTÉ WAS ADDLED BY *AL-GUL* AND CANNOT ENDURE THE SIGHT OF A PINNACLE OF *QUALITÉ* GAMING.

There isn't a golden sphere moment because it's a very different game from Planescape.
I definitely agree in that aspect. I guess the closest you get to it is the karaoke side quest.
You aren't the chosen one. You aren't the golden child of copkind sent to untangle the great political conspiracy that threatens the world as we know it. You are just a hobocop who drank himself into oblivion because life is hard but you have to go on. And thus the antagonist of the game is a mirror to you. Like you, he's not part of some great agenda. He's just a hobo incel who got jealous one day and had a rifle on hand. Like Harry hurts and longs for the ex-girlfriend, the killer hurts and longs for the ideology he once had.
Because behind the disco veneer of fantastical mystery, the world of Elysium is disgustingly normal. It's just a boring world where you are just a boring cop investigating a boring murder that's getting spun by politicians for all it's worth.
This is what i disagree with personally.
The end of the game is anything but normal. You discover a cryptid that an elderly couple has spent both of their natural lives looking for. Its very presence has melted the murderer's mind and pushed him to continue his dark fight. This highlights to me that the world still has mysteries left to uncover. Plus that's not even getting into the Pale and the Church sidequest. Harry is the Human Can-Opener. He is capable, he is amazing despite everyone's rightful worry for him. Despite his alcohol-induced amnesia he is still real police. It's ironic that his literal skills hold him back from being perfect, but they're also the things that enable him to do what he does.

It's a glorified visual novel.
But oh, what a visual novel it turned out to be.

At lesat until the end, which I found to be a big letdown both in terms of presenting a satisfying conclusion and having consequences for your choices.

If you haven't neglected Inland Empire you can talk to the stickbug who will answer a lot of things about nature and how it views the world which makes a pretty nice contrast with that deranged communist's ranting.

I just started this game I had I book marked awhile because I love detective games and Noire type games and i have to say within the first 30 minutes of gameplay, I laughed so hard I thought I might throw up.

The art is fucking immaculate,

The characters (so far) are written amazing and convincing

And this game breaks every trope, and is unabashedly it's own animal, this is so far so refreshing that I'm going to call it and say this is either a cult following game or turns into a classic

God damn I love this game

Do deaths have their own text? I never died in my playthrough so IDK

If you die, you get a newspaper report on how you died. If you die right at the start from failing to grab your tie with one health point, you die of a heart attack.

So you get text and the game over screen is a newspaper article.

Similarly if your morale (the blue bar) goes empty your character basically says "fuck it I quit" and you get another different newspaper about the incident. If you only have one point in health or morale you can rescue yourself as the bar takes a few seconds to fully empty.

Fortunately magnesium is extremely easy to find, and even viquermare doesn't really seem to mind if you snort meth (as long as you lay off on the booze), unless you made you detective into a feeble super autist you shouldn't really run into any resource shortages unless you do something extremely stupid.

Did you guys have any feelings on having the text window being vertical?

I personally didn't like and would have preferred it being horizontal like pillars of eternity and the like.

Funny enough, I didn't even notice it broke away from standard RPG horizontal text windows. Kind of shows just how oddball it gets even with subtle game design.

How people make their own Disco Elysium dialogue? I saw this one as well.

Can you tell me without spoilers, is this game a commie propaganda or not?
