Discord Warning system

Its going to be interesting how this evolves. Discord has had years of source effects and word of mouth domination that blow its competitors out of the water, despite me for years thinking they were going to ruin all momentum (like all VC funded operations do) with some pay to play garbage. Always important to note that social media momentum is hard to replicate and the alternative to an alternative tends to result in more troons unless one can be lucky to get one's friends on board. Its why altchans for the most part fucking suck and defederated services are tranny utopia.

alright boys, whoes ready to jump ship over to steam chat?!

in all seriousness though, this will the first nail in the coffin that truly kills discord, it wasn't the very first nor will it be the last.

boys, time to start archiving not only the downfall but also the good shit that very rarely gets posted to it.

I'm not entirely surprised, given that Discord has been rapidly becoming more gay and retarded over the last 3-4 years, especially in their patch notes. The last major update gave people the ability to put their "pronouns" in their profile, as well as having the ability to display different pronouns for yourself depending on what server you joined. The warning system probably should have been an opt-in option that a handful of super huge servers could use to reduce janny workload, not a thing that's automatically built-in to scan *ALL* messages, regardless if it's DMs or not.

I'm aware that Discord is increasingly pushing their expensive new Nitro service (you have to fanagle with the dev tools to access classic $5 Nitro if you want it for some reason), as well as other overpriced decorative elements, in place of their short-lived games store. Discord's also added in features like their Activity page (which you can't remove). My guess is that the company is trying to polish up their image to attract more people with $, since nobody really uses Skype anymore for voice chatting, and Steam voice chat is absolute garbage.

I can rapidly see this devolving into people using euphemism treadmills to evade getting flagged. For instance, people will say "joggers" instead of "niggers".

I also see on Discord's website's screencap that you can get flagged for intellectual property violations. What the fuck does that mean? Are you going to get tagged because you mentioned a torrent site or shared a Github page that gets around retarded website features?

Discord ponies get exactly what they deserve. It's been known for years that the service is a honeypot and people running it were pedophiles and furries, not sure what anyone expected.
I assume this will become the new standard across the entirety of sanitized web, a social credit score and AI overseers that auto-flag your posts and ban you on the spot

One server I'm in likes to run movie nights, but DVDs and streaming services have something built in to prevent re-streaming much of the time, so they end up pirating films they already own just so they can watch them with friends. That would be my guess.

Another guess would be people posting/reposting paywalled content. Furry art, thots, that kind of stuff. The mods on servers I'm in crack down on this stuff pretty hard, but they can't do anything about users forming a group chat to share stuff. The irony of that is that artists I know use Discord as a Patreon benefit.

I'd love a chat program that just does what I want without the constant treadmill of moderation and bloated updates killing their viability. It's telling that the early days of a service are usually the ones fondly remembered. Early Discord was a gaming focused chat program, and somewhere along the way it became a grooming app.

This is the real use of AI, it's become increasingly better at text and image categorization, even understanding intent when we talk about the more sophisticated models. This is only the beginning. Eventually you'll have this shit sit in your OS or browser and you'll literally not be able to write some things anymore.

I don't give a fuck about discord, never used it, but it's a good sign of things to come.

Infractions that can earn you a violation appear to include posting copyrighted content
Whelp, there goes the one server I am a part of. It is a Super Mario World speedrun server, with people posting runs and documenting strategies and glitches. I'm sure Nintendo will get their "IP" wiped ASAP. RIP my autism repository.

"As the Americans learned so painfully in Earth's final century, free flow of information is the only safeguard against tyranny. The once-chained people whose leaders at last lose their grip on information flow will soon burst with freedom and vitality, but the free nation gradually constricting its grip on public discourse has begun its rapid slide into despotism. Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master."
Commissioner Pravin Lal, "U.N. Declaration of Rights"

"Will we next create false gods to rule over us? How proud we have become, and how blind."
Sister Miriam Godwinson, "We Must Dissent"

AI censorship is going to become increasingly common. It enables the scaling up of "trust & safety" commissions without having to hire huge numbers of people. If they aren't already, the actual backend will be outsourced to handful of companies. I expect that at some point, if you run any kind of communication service or content platform that has no censorship solution, you're just going to be blacklisted from all the digital storefronts and possibly even the banking system.

Good news, I guess?

People don't care because you can make create funny images/porn or have people you don't like or e-celebs say nigger words. What they don't realize is that this technology will, and I believe already has somewhere, led to people being falsely incriminated and arrested. We live in an age where you can literally create evidence out of thin air, no need to smuggle a hard drive full of CP or a bag of weed when they're not looking anymore, and you can bet your ass the AI is making a list and making sure to put everything you ever say there twice.
Good sign of things to come indeed, except we're all already here, and have been for quite a while. When did that AI model of Jordan Peterson leak, again?
I got to say, this is by far the gayest cyberpunk future I have ever seen

A court case is still a high-investment engagement, something that requires real people and real time. A real prosecutor, a real DA, a real judge, all soaking up real money and real time. It isn't something they deploy unless they want to get you, personally, for a specific reason. And at that point, frankly, if it comes to that, you're fucked with or without AI.

The thing to be concerned about is what they can automate at mass scale without targeting individuals. In 2020, censoring news about Hunter Biden required manual intervention at Facebook. In the 2032 election, it won't be manual. Information that makes the Democrat candidate look bad will be real-time censored by AI. So will information that discredits whatever The Narrative is at the time. People who repeatedly circumvent controls, or try to circumvent them, will have themselves three-struck into unpersoning via automated systems.

They won't be putting dissidents in jail because they won't need to. The system will automatically prevent dissent from even getting off the ground. Why bother going through all the trouble of planting evidence on you and having the FBI come to your house when the machine has already canceled your social media accounts, cut off your credit cards, and shut down your internet access?

This is my favorite part: If they kick you out of the system, then they will simply make their own. Even if that system is an underground anarchist movement making home-made bombs, somehow I don't imagine radical right wing spergs simply taking their L and becoming alcoholics like the "dissidents" that were duped by the system at the end of 1984.
Interesting times all the same, thank goodness I don't use discord, social media or any of that nonsense

They don't care about sperglords communicating by pen & paper who have no effective means of teaching children, owning businesses, sponsoring political candidates, disseminating media, etc.
