Discord, what do you think of it?

I like discord. I have yet to meet any pedophiles or overt weirdos, so I'd say I don't have any issues with it. It's great for communication during games when the alternative is Skype or a group phone call. But overall, Discord isn't too bad. Just stay out of large servers.
Likewise. I only browse some discords because they link to mods that I use for games. Other than that I just use it for my friends who I stay in regular contact with. So I agree that I'm not really that against Discord. New font/visual aesthetic sucks though.

Discord has some very beautiful-looking seasonal GIFs which you can put over your PFP. Alongside locking uploading GIF PFPs behind discord nitro (I swear it wasn't like this before an update), discord is a simple-to-use application that has attracted degenerates with how deceptively private things seem. The PFP GIF overlays are a limited-time thing but are beautiful and comfy and are placed over your PFP (with discord nitro ofc lol) and I really wish KF had something similar.
e: Discord is a bastard company that would sooner protect its fucking pfp overlays than remove bastard pedophiles and german sex cults. To my knowledge, no one has the raw animations downloaded so I'm going to fiddle with it for a while and get them as GIFs for kiwis to use and abuse.

I don't really like or hate it, it's just a necessary evil to have. But I do hate that some groups require you to have a cell phone number attached to your account and I hate that discord is yet another service that blocks Voip numbers and makes you use a "real number".

Keep it just as a way to coordinate with your friend group and it's fine.

I have no idea what it's like outside of that, nor do I want to.

Discord(and social media in general) makes it far too easy for people to form communities.

Back in the day it took some work, knowledge and most importantly money to setup a website or forum like this. Kept degenerates at bay for obvious reasons and spergs from constantly going full sperg because why does it matter if you pollute discord A when you can create discord B in a matter of seconds?

Discord is getting more play from the Twitter-sick, if you catch my meaning, after Elon Musk took the bird site over.

Should give you an idea of the general quality of user.

Discord is a fantastic place to find rampant mental illness. A lot of servers are completely full of troons bouncing their suicidal ideation off each other.

Frankly, I think it’s the new frontier for finding lolcows, especially since a lot of people attach their other social media to it. Unfortunately, posting shit from Discord here comes across as a “personal army” thing (because it often is).

I have met some characters on that app though, that’s for sure.

Discord is garbage. Let me give a quick summary:
  1. Messages are unencrypted
  2. They spy on everything
  3. They collect every piece of data they possibly can
  4. They'll do whatever the fuck they want with that data
  5. Their platform is rampant with pedophiles and they don't give a damn
  6. A large portion of communities are crap; filled with shithead mods and degenerates up-the-ass

If you're using Discord and are unwilling to delete your account, here's a few tips to uphold your privacy.
  1. Only use Discord in the browser
  2. Put Discord in a container
  3. Using an ad-blocker, add this to your filter list ||discord.com/api/v*/science
  4. Don't add your phone number

From personal experience, I only ever used Discord to keep up with a few select projects and harvest memes.
I had nothing on my friends list and rarely ever communicated.

as much as i hate discord because of how retarded they make their platform day by day, it's just something i happen to stumble across 6 years ago and never managed to let it go

mostly, i'm in tech servers that doesn't seem to be pozzed as hard as other servers where your run of the mill convo is interrupted by twitter shitposts every few 10 seconds or so

I joined Discord to chat with a couple of gamer mates during the first lockdowns of the pandemic. Ended up joining a bunch of different servers, all for drinking, and the whole thing in my experience is pretty chill. Not the same as going out to the bars, obviously, but given my IRL mates seem to just want to rage over politics and current events after two pints, it's refreshing to drop in every now and again and just talk drunken shit with people from around the world.

Got me through the lockdowns tbh, though my liver would tell you otherwise.

Used to be cool. Now refuses to fucking innovate. Not a single interesting or relevant feature in years. Alternatives like Guilded have far, far surpassed it in terms of features and options. It persists solely because of market dominance and I can't wait till it dies.
this has aged very well, especially seeing as it took the stupid app 5+ years to add a pronouns feature despite its userbase

at least it knows it well enough to make the recommended pronouns they/them though

Wasn't a big fan when friends started insisting on migrating to it from Skype back in '16 or so. The "le epick maymay" flavour text sprinkled everywhere was a massive turn-off, as was the forced layout, with me being used to having contacts and individual conversations in separate windows since early Skype days. Still, Skype has gotten so insufferably unpleasant to use at that point that I accepted the move.

Nowadays? Compared to ye olde Skype I'm not even sure which is worse: both are resource hogs and globohomo propaganda tools, with Discord possibly becoming the worse offender with their hyperactive promotion of LGBT agenda and being an overall perfect honeypot for nastiest kinds of people to openly congregate.
