Even that iconic shot of Ariel on the rocks with the wave crashing behind her is not magnificent at all in live action. Probably because in the original, you had not only the animation of Ariel's movement with the waves mixing but you also had the distinct coloration of the sky in the background.

Meanwhile, the shot from the trailer is like filmed in a small wave pool behind a green screen and just did multiple takes until they were settled on the wave choice. Then whoever is running the visual effects department decided it was a great idea to make it appear like the Sun is behind Ariel, giving that glare people don't want to have when taking pictures at dawn or dusk.
