There's something really weird going on with the effects in this movie. Somehow her face seems to be moving independently of her body.
Just from the trailer you can tell the actress is just outright bad at her job. I assume her previous gig was in one of Disneys childrens sitcoms, because that's what her intonation sounds like.
The animals all look creepy and out of place.
All in all a solid DisneyRemake/10.
On the plus side Disney will eventually run out of material to remake and they'll be forced to do Song of the South.

It reminds me to the 90s obession with dark grimmy colors, but they sort of "compensated" with gaudy neon. This is just depressing though instead of unhinged.

Even that iconic shot of Ariel on the rocks with the wave crashing behind her is not magnificent at all in live action. Probably because in the original, you had not only the animation of Ariel's movement with the waves mixing but you also had the distinct coloration of the sky in the background.

Meanwhile, the shot from the trailer is like filmed in a small wave pool behind a green screen and just did multiple takes until they were settled on the wave choice. Then whoever is running the visual effects department decided it was a great idea to make it appear like the Sun is behind Ariel, giving that glare people don't want to have when taking pictures at dawn or dusk.

Animation has the power to make the impossible believable. Live-action can only go so far as the viewers is willing to suspend their disbelief.

Disney's animated version of The Little Mermaid is a work of artistry made by people who were masters of their craft and worked at the service of universal storytelling.

Disney's live-action version for The Little Mermaid is a work of mimicry made by people who are found lacking and are at the service of twisted agenda.

This remake was deem to fail from the start because it is a tainted proposal. It is navel-gazing American Progressive cultural vandalism and revisionism made only to appeal to itself and no one else. This movie is barely going to appeal to a general American audience and much less to an international market. The Chinese are not going to see it and Europeans are going to sneer at it because it spits at Hans Christian Andersen's legacy.

Modern Disney has been reduced to a Cargo Cult of its past self. It can only create feeble effigies while it fails to understand the dept and power of what it is trying to imitate.

I'm surprised they didn't just remake Bambi, after all Deer, Rabbits, and other woodland critters are still intrinsically beautiful when done in a realistic manner.

Who the hell is going to buy a toy based on the CGI Sebastian The Crab? I mean at least the Crab Dance Music Video turned meme is amusing because these crabs have a fun dance.
