Nothing says Danish fairy tale like shameless pandering.

Christ, these remakes give me an ulcer.

I doubt Andersen would have cared much for the original. Then again, he's been dead for years so I could be wrong.

I really, really kind of hope these start bombing.

I hope these remakes bomb bad enough that they’ll be forced to come up with more original material (that isn’t a sequel to an already established movie). Better yet, there are plenty of fairy tales, legends and myths out there to adapt. Disney should get back to its roots and preferably do more of the 2D animation. 3D is getting boring.

Awkafina? Somebody seriously is known as a bottle of water?
So this was the movie that the Zendaya/Harry Styles rumor was from. I’m fine with the Zendaya casting, honestly. She can pull off Ariel. At least they didn’t get Jennifer “X-WOMEN” Lawrence or Cara “Daddy paid for my acting career” Develiegne(?) to do it.

Lord knows the animators who toiled away on those originals deserve better than having their work pushed aside from these atrocities.

Extremely trippy 4 hour long 2d animated epic version of the Mahabharata when?

Nah, it'd probably be his least-favorite adaptation to date. I mean, the titular character doesn't die, gets her voice back, actually marries the prince, and doesn't even suffer any ill effects from turning human.

More word from the Little Mermaid remake:

-Zendaya is pretty much 90% confirmed to be Ariel.

-Ursula will be played by Melissa Macarthy.

-Scuttle will be female and played by Awkafina.

-Eric they're thinking of being played by some One Direction bozo.

-And Sebastian is 70% confirmed to be Lin Manuel Miranda.

Anyone feel they're trying to "ghetto" it? Like they feel the original film is too white and problematic, so gotta change that to try to appeal to the black/hispanic audiences. It's so weird out of all the Disney properties, the one they're blackwashing so much is the Little Mermaid. Last I knew, most hispanics/blacks don't really care about that movie.
And the erasing of redheads from pop culture continues :(

I heard its between fuggo British boy band guy and that creepy fuck Noah Centino

Also I'm sorry but Billy Eichner as Timon is one of the worst casting decisions ever. His shrill fucking voice needs to give out. Someone pour acid down his throat. I'm dreading it because he is singing Can You Feel The Love Tonight amongst other songs.

Is anyone else looking forward to Onward?

It's a cool premise, though honestly one that seems better suited to an adult audience, think something like Rick and Morty.

For whatever reason I'm reminded of the sorceresess/witches from Final Fantasy 8 when I look at that picture. If only they went along with that kind of design...

Edit : Disney really needs to go back to some form of either 2D animation or some kind of Japanese anime style animation which in a way they have done by, if I'm not mistaken, purchasing the rights to Howl's Moving Castle (and Spirited Away I think). I honestly don't see why Disney doesn't just hire the Japanese (or Koreans) to do the animation for them. I mean, if Trigger could make one of the Little Witch Academia movies with some help from crowdfunding, then why shouldn't Disney take that risk?

The other thing I'll say is why doesn't Disney also not take a bit of a page from Japan's way of telling fairy-tale like stories if they want to mix things up from what they normally do? Specifically things like other Miyazaki films like say Laputa or even something similar to the the Little Witch Academia movies. Like really, what's wrong with that? They honestly should be joining forces together in this department. Just imagine stuff like this

From what I understand the 2011 Winnie The Pooh movie flopping is what killed their 2D animation department.

Isn't Zendaya on a HBO series with graphic sex and nudity? Going from that to.... a Disney film.

Me, I’ve a huge soft spot for urban fantasy anything and honestly the genre works for any audience.

Gonna be honest and say The Little Mermaid was never really a Disney film that did it for me, since I was more of a Beauty and the Beast guy. Still, those casting choices are atrocious if one were staying faithful to the original, and just shows Disney to be pandering beyond their previous levels.

No doubt they're going to try and make Ursula more sympathetic if they continue the trend they've followed for the past few years with Marvel and their own works: can't ever have a purely evil, uncompromising villain anymore apparently. A shame since that's what made them so good before.

Meh, I still love Frozen, and I still think it's a really good movie. It wasn't the first time that the Walt Disney Company took liberties with the stories they were adapting. Hell, one of the greatest Disney movies ever, Mary Poppins, made the original author sob in the movie theater because she hated it so much ... But people unanimously love that movie (for good reason, too-- it IS a great movie).

If I had been in charge of making the movie, and the songwriters gave me a song like "Let it Go," then I 100% would have done the same thing and changed Elsa into a protagonist. You simply CAN'T unhear a song like "Let it Go," and shelf it. The whole sequence itself is iconic, whether people are sick of it or not.

The twist with Hans works for me in the movie as well, simply because the movie wasn't about "good guys vs. bad guys." It was about the two sisters healing their relationship, and I thought the climax of the movie was perfect for those themes. Granted, Disney has gotten OBNOXIOUS about "twist villains" since, but for Frozen, I thought it worked.

Only two good things came out of Frozen - the true ending:

826775

...and the Blood Test scene:

It ain't gonna bomb and you know it.
That's the power of 90's kids who never grew up and Disney Moms.
Can we just like start killing normies and just have bitter old nerds be the only ones left"
I think our culture and our society would drastically improve if we did that.

I feel nothing when I hear more about this Little Mermaid remake.

We all know there was a less than zero chance of it being any good anyway. I'm done being mad about these stupid remakes. I'm just simply not going to give it any of my money. Aladdin didn't get my money, The Lion King won't get my money, and this won't get my money.

The Little Mermaid is one of my favorites. It will still be one of my favorites even after this godawful remake comes to pass.

Has anyone seen those obsessed blogs and channels who spend their days uploading "guides" and "hacks" related to Disney parks?

Granted they seem harmless but throwing away all that money for Disney parks and they appear to be fully grown adults.

Theres one called DFBGuide (Disney Food Blog Guide) and has 350K subscribers all related to Disney food at the parks.

Umm... :\

Melissa McCarthy in Talks to Play Ursula in Live-Action ‘Little Mermaid’ (EXCLUSIVE)

https://variety.com/2019/film/news/melissa-mccarthy-little-mermaid-ursula-1203217481/ (archive)

Right now, Twitter is salty that a drag queen or some thicc WOC isn't being considered for the role of Ursula.

(Admittedly, I actually like the idea of a drag queen playing Ursula. After all, her character design was inspired by one. Too bad it isn't probably happening anytime soon, because MUH TRANSPHOBIA or something.)
I ain’t even mad, I’m more amused by the idea of McCarthy playing as Ursula.

All I know is that I’m not even going to be watching these live action remakes.

I want to know whose playing her father.

Will This Ariel be biracial or just full black? If this Ariel is mixed I bet people will call colorism that Disney is making a "black girl" play a "biracial".
