To beat any possible traffic Mom Kurosaki and I left at 7, decent traffic. Got there at 8 something. Bought tickets: right now those are going for $149, it made us both wish our annual passes were still active. Not much of a line through the gates and we made our way down Main Street at roughly 8:20. Here’s our view

Kinda sad huh?
Mom K and I make a quick plan to split up as soon as the park lets the slowly gathering crowd loose so she could grab us a bit of breakfast and I can make smugglers run my first ride. We make good on that plan and I’m off towards frontierland. There’s already cast members there, directing the crowd in the direction of critter country, according to them that was the only entrance open to get to galaxy’s edge that early in the morning.
Past that the pavement and flora starts subtly changing: its a simulated dry hard packed earth, if you look closely enough there’s the tracks of creatures imbedded there, the flora is what you’d expect from a arid region. The audio that’s being piped in is indistinct radio chatter, whining engines of crafts, various clanking. A good ambience to set things up but boiling it down you’re hiking a simulated trail. There’s not much to look at. Further in theres a couple of kiosks selling flight helmets and suits. They’re extremely out of place.

Our little herd turns the corner and there’s Chewbaca and his designated handler beside a parked x wing on the right of the path, its pretty impressive and true to size. A number of people break off to take pictures. To the left theres the archway leading to what looks like a market bazaar. Rey is there too: about five people stop to take pictures with her.

It’s distinctly middle eastern, it looks lived in, there’s a few small corners where you wouldn’t be surprised to see an alien going about their business. There’s distinguishable tracks left from droids. There’s plenty of devil in the detail and it’s pretty astonishing.

But holy shit is there absolutely nothing going on. Yes, theres stores, theres a little narrow street with alcoves with stores selling merch, one with miscellaneous star wars items, another selling various plush creatures. Following the street ends in the food of the area: a spicy sausage with coleslaw garnishing wrapped in pita bread, $12. When I circled back with mom around noon she balked at that and we both went our usual eatery at the Red Rose Tavern and got more than that for the same price.
Circling back with mom to get her opinion on it we both came to the same conclusion: for all the detail put in, there’s not much substance. Mom called it wasted effort. Also that it looked like India. I thought looked like an amazing movie set made half assed theme park zone.
