Isn't Target in financial trouble?
Could it be Disney wants to buy them next?

Target has always been the most expensive of those kinds of stores. I'm stocked there still around after they closed the ones in Canada for that reason.

Did you meet Vi Moradi?

Passed by Chewbaca, lot of people taking pictures with him. Saw Rey, lot of people walked on by her.
I’ll be uploading pictures later tonight. Took a lot as I walked.
@Xerxes IX havent went in yet but i looks like they’re removing the rock work around the astro orbiter.

So a friend of mine and I are considering getting Disney passes due to a serious influx of cash. I’m planning on getting cheapo SoCal pass for obvious reasons.

Sorry to disappoint but no :( sad uwu friend.
Have they decorated for Halloween yet? Also I want a full report on Space Mountain please.
Haunted Mansion is done up but not open yet. Theres a few autumn ribbons around but not in full force.
I have a fast pass for that at 4 so I’ll update after but its got its star wars skin on.

Wait is 35 minutes. Could be because I came in at rope drop,
Nah, that's just how its usually been. It was only at 5-8 hours during the first few days of its opening. Only rarely going up to an hour or so after that.

And its no surprise that Chewbacca is still the #1 meet&greet, even if the costume is just the same one they used for Star Tours.

Edit: Wish I had noticed this sooner.

What do inner city black kids watch?

DBZ

If Disneyland brought back the Peoplemover (their version of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority ride in Disney World) I guarantee it would be a way bigger success than Galaxy's Edge.

Seriously, Disney Parks spergs love that ride.

The TTA is awesome, don't @ me.

Actually it's fun seeing what Walt's vision for EPCOT was versus what actually happened.

Alright, sorry for the wait but here’s the evaluation plus photos. I’m gonna focus mostly on GE since its the biggest elephant in the room.

A bit of powerlevel on me: I’m studying theatre to necome a scenic artist so my observations are gonna be a bit more critical and autistically detail focused than the average guest, to even this out I’ll also provide insights from Mom Kurosaki who went with me. Anyway here we go:

To beat any possible traffic Mom Kurosaki and I left at 7, decent traffic. Got there at 8 something. Bought tickets: right now those are going for $149, it made us both wish our annual passes were still active. Not much of a line through the gates and we made our way down Main Street at roughly 8:20. Here’s our view

Kinda sad huh?

Mom K and I make a quick plan to split up as soon as the park lets the slowly gathering crowd loose so she could grab us a bit of breakfast and I can make smugglers run my first ride. We make good on that plan and I’m off towards frontierland. There’s already cast members there, directing the crowd in the direction of critter country, according to them that was the only entrance open to get to galaxy’s edge that early in the morning.

Past that the pavement and flora starts subtly changing: its a simulated dry hard packed earth, if you look closely enough there’s the tracks of creatures imbedded there, the flora is what you’d expect from a arid region. The audio that’s being piped in is indistinct radio chatter, whining engines of crafts, various clanking. A good ambience to set things up but boiling it down you’re hiking a simulated trail. There’s not much to look at. Further in theres a couple of kiosks selling flight helmets and suits. They’re extremely out of place.

Our little herd turns the corner and there’s Chewbaca and his designated handler beside a parked x wing on the right of the path, its pretty impressive and true to size. A number of people break off to take pictures. To the left theres the archway leading to what looks like a market bazaar. Rey is there too: about five people stop to take pictures with her.

It’s distinctly middle eastern, it looks lived in, there’s a few small corners where you wouldn’t be surprised to see an alien going about their business. There’s distinguishable tracks left from droids. There’s plenty of devil in the detail and it’s pretty astonishing. 66618E37-782D-4F1A-AF07-8388B71B91D5.jpegE1B0783D-1A9D-4ED4-8567-EBFC78D0F0D5.jpeg18C52EF1-614E-4E80-8E5C-8F9DE77FB1FE.jpeg34965441-5B3C-4E66-9E3E-5CC34E98664B.jpegCCAD82E0-583C-4ABD-B0D9-24CFAFA2EA87.jpeg1441CCE3-C01A-4FDE-A8F8-4DC1DE11058F.jpegFE1DABAE-D902-411D-B662-4C962A10FC33.jpegBCC4947E-58CC-4812-A151-8A6C1242B8F2.jpegD099CEC4-4395-4A90-BAAB-C56156D699C1.jpeg12DC9C42-AEDF-462A-8E7F-4B109A1131E5.jpeg2BD0BE6C-130E-4591-B49D-23C93BC3F0C2.jpeg
But holy shit is there absolutely nothing going on. Yes, theres stores, theres a little narrow street with alcoves with stores selling merch, one with miscellaneous star wars items, another selling various plush creatures. Following the street ends in the food of the area: a spicy sausage with coleslaw garnishing wrapped in pita bread, $12. When I circled back with mom around noon she balked at that and we both went our usual eatery at the Red Rose Tavern and got more than that for the same price.

Circling back with mom to get her opinion on it we both came to the same conclusion: for all the detail put in, there’s not much substance. Mom called it wasted effort. Also that it looked like India. I thought looked like an amazing movie set made half assed theme park zone.

I’ll talk about the ride later I rl stuff to do.

loooool it doesn't look like India, there's not nearly enough crowds. Picture related, this is gonna be Disney Mumbai:

But yeah, wow. It sounds like they really failed at making the Star Wars section interesting. It's pretty mindblowing-- there's so much they could have done with it..

@GeneralFriendliness redirected me here and wow - I have a family trip to Disney coming up next month and absolutely NOBODY in the family is interested in going. I mean, it looks nice, but it's a bunch of Star Wars overpriced merch, a simulator ride that's 4/6ths pressing buttons, and some character photo ops. Oh, and more shopping.

Thankfully, it's in the back of the park so unless the family wants to do Small World for whatever reason (get driven further into insanity willingly or maybe try to find the Mary Blair doll on the Eiffel Tower?), the closest we might get is Big Thunder.

I recall thicker lines when Star Tours 1 closed.

IIRC Disney was still trying to do 'phases' of letting people into GE after it was open to the public...while the blackout dates were still in effect.

The board that dictated what times what groups could go in? I don't think they ever actually used it. Crowds simply weren't there since anybody who actually WANTED to go already had done so with the reservations earlier in the year.

Frankly, I think that opening GE in Disneyland as well as World was a huge mistake. From what I've seen, it's far more well received in World since that's the bigger tourist hub...I feel like the Disneyland installation only exists purely as a way for Iger to leave a truly meaningful mark on the original Disney park. It truly wouldn't surprise me if GE as we know it today is still around in a few years, because there's no way it's sustainable as is right now.

Also I want a full report on Space Mountain please.
I need to know as well. Last I heard, it was still that dumbass Star Wars 'Hyperspace Mountain' overlay shit.

Who did it better-
Vincent Price

or

Corey Burton

Ok, Price is the obvious winner here... No contest even. But I still think Burton's lyrics are way better. I wish I could hear Price singing the original lyrics about shooting at drowning widows and orphans..

Alright back.

So. Smugglers run. Something I didn’t mention in my above evaluation was just how much dead space there is. Its so unbearably obvious that they planned the open space with crowds in mind. It ends up looking barren.

Here it is on the map.

The interior queue is a cargo warehouse that’s mostly darker browns and greys. Its littered with shipping crates, one of them is cracked open and is spilling what looks like rations. There a game table wedged in the corner with a card game in progress. Not unlike star tours there’s a periodic chatter between two characters; unlike star tours the two prattle on the speaker system, and the source is never seen so there isn’t much visual entertainment like R2, C3PO, and the various droids that are scattered around in there. Instead there’s a single what looks to be an engine of a craft that comes to life every so often with lights and sound. Not as visually interesting.

On the way there’s an overhead view window showing off the details on the Falcon. Nice to look at, but again not very stimulating.

Right before the ride’s loading platform is an animatronic and the single most animated thing in the line. I can’t even describe how smoothly the thing moves: you’d be forgiven if you thought it was a guy in a suit. Apparently he’s in charge of operations and briefs you on your objective before you’re ushered on. Wish there was more of him. You’re taken in six at a time from there and move on.

Next you’re taken through a hallway that’s pretty reminiscent of the boarding bridges for airplanes. Following that’s is an extremely screen accurate hallways and living quarters of the Falcon: the game table and seats are there, the walls are appropriately dirtied and worn, I wish I got more pictures of it but things moved quickly from there. Your party is divided up and given roles: pilot, gunner, and navigator. Pilots control the axis’s, gunners take control of the blasters, I’ve no idea what the he’ll navigators do. Of course I get pilot.
C7ACF1B0-3B94-4516-A57B-BB61647E5893.jpeg

The ride itself. That’s extremely ymmv. Your experience and enjoyment of the it is directly connected with how well you work together with your crew. If you aren’t coming in with a group of six people you know you’re gonna be dealing with a group of complete strangers. I got a small family and their tismo kid.

I got lucky to be the pilot that started her up. Buttons and switches that need to be pressed light up for you, and I’m not gonna lie it felt pretty satisfying. The movement on the joystick is sensitive but not too sensitive, I wish the screen display was just a touch brighter, and I felt the movement in the cockpit was way too gentle for all the things we ran into. I think the duration was just long enough and I actually felt invested in it enough to swear in front of tismo kid when i got a little too close to and obstacle and shout directions to my copilot. Things wrap up with an announcement of our earnings and how much damage the Falcon took. Apparently we fucked it up pretty good. This is visually expressed as you exit the cockpit: the vents along the walls spark and sputter when you pass and another PA voice calls for repairs.

I actually enjoyed myself with it but that just adds to the disappointment to the overall land. Its a mark of the unrealized potential.

Funnily enough, the engine in question is supposed to be of a similar model to the speeder Rey used in TFA but painted blue, yet nobody can ever tell due its unremarkable design. Also did you happen to see the control panels near the windows where you could see the Falcon from and others in some other parts of the barren complex? Apparently those were supposed to allow for more interactivity along the ride (like pressing them would make certain things light up or make sounds on the Falcon) but were never made functional.

Can’t say that I saw anything like that and knowing that now bums me out. The queue had every opportunity to be the next Indiana Jones in detail.

I posted some pics of them in the SW thread, but I can't remember on which page other than it was somewhere after 500. But to sum it up, there was one control panel near the engine which was supposed to allow you to activate the engine on your own, others near the windows which I already mentioned, and another I can't remember. Only pic I have on me for easy access is the one of the lifeless card table.

Only thing more lifeless was the dejarik table in the Falcon itself which felt like a missed opportunity to do something clever with that. Hell a dejarik play area with AR glasses would've been promising.

Damn. And holy shit I never would’ve guessed that thing was a speeder. I thought it was an oddly square engine for a pod racer.

BTW did you go to the toy stores? Do they still have their original merch in stock or do they have stuff from Star Tours' gift shop filling some of the shelves? Last I checked, they had replaced several of the og dolls with dolls from Star Tours.
