I dreaded the day this would happen. I knew it was coming. I knew it was unavoidable. It still angered me regardless.

Pinocchio is a story that is very close to my heart. It was the first Disney film I ever watched and it left such a huge impression on me that I still gawk at the beautifully animated scenes of Monstro chasing the raft. Pinocchio is a work of art and seeing Disney finally cannibalize it breaks my heart. The only saving grace is Tom Hanks but I don't think even he can salvage this film. Their woke bastardization of the Blue Fairy makes me seethe.

Another bad sign is the lack of... well... Pinocchio himself being in the trailer. Being the main character, you'd think they'd want to show him off. But no. He's absent, which probably means that even the people working on this film know it probably isn't going to go down well. This is either going to be a hit like the Lion King remake or a bomb - and knowing the type of people who like Disney nowadays, I'm going to guess right now it'll be a hit.

Fuck you Disney. The original film is in a secure vault meant to preserve historically important movies for a reason - and this sorry excuse of a copy will never, ever join it.

Better yet, watch a version closer to the original story!

I love this movie. It's considered one of the most faithful adaptations of the fairy tale and has a lot of work put into it. Shame it often gets put onto those bootleg Disney dvds designed to trick grandmas into buying them for their grandkids. *sigh*

Long after man kind ends be in the next few generations or several millennia, what will be left of us to be found by our successors? Will we be remembered as the species that developed entire cultures and civilizations that reached heights of grandeur that only one out of 8 rocks orbiting the sun was able to achieve?

or will we be remembered for crackhead blue fairy?

Don't worry, this film is going straight to Disney+. You remember that Lady and the Tramp remake from years ago? No? That's how well the film's going to do.

I'll let @Belvedere take this one:

When the image of the blue fairy first popped up it made me recoil just out of sheer incredulity. Then a second later it sinked in and I realize this is the norm now. I'm disappointed in myself because I should have seen it coming.

I think the part that took me aback the most wasn't the fact that she was black, but that she was bald. So Disney cannot even afford us the leniency of feminine beauty, not even for the benefit of the black actress playing the role.

Imagine being Italian and seeing this trailer. My God, this goes from cultural appropriation to cultural vandalism.

Plus, it seems blondes are next in the chopping block after redhead roles got the ax these past few years.

Trying to Americanize Europe, one country at a time.

Man. This was the version my family had when I was a kid. I haven't seen it in years but that opening tune is etched on my brain.

Shame it often gets put onto those bootleg Disney dvds designed to trick grandmas into buying them for their grandkids. *sigh*

I think that's why we had it.

What was the one version of Pinocchio that was made in europe about 20 years ago were this grown man played pinocchio?
I wonder if this new version will be compared to that?
It probably will. The film won awards in Italy but if I remember correctly the Italian public knew the film and awards were Roberto's one huge ego trip and hated it. Knowing the ego modern Disney films have I'm sure Italians won't like it either.

That being said Roberto was in another Pinocchio adaptation that's actually pretty good (and made parents upset because it was another more faithful adaptation of the story). He was Gepetto.

You know after reading a lot of these comments and seeing other kiwis come forward with so many different adaptations I'm really pleased I'm not the only one who really likes this fairy tale. You are all cool and I would invite all of you over to my place for a pizza party! :heart-full:
