Yeah my bad, brainfart.

tl;dr

Just, halve the box office and double (or at least x1.5) the budget to see if a film is profitable.

Elemental needs 400 mil to break even before marketing, and then depending on how much they spent on marketing, ranging from 450 mil to 600.
Some of this is just money games bullshit and Hollywood accounting though.

Disney "paying" ABC and ESPN to show Little Mermaid commericals count as ad spend but money didnt actually leave their eco system from what i understand. There is opportunity cost here for ads that could have shown instead. But thats different.

Apparently not only does Haunted Mansion 2023 has Jarred Leto and Tiffany Haddish in it and doesn't learn the lesson of the 2003 version, it apparently has a lot of product placement.

Wtf? I thought this kinda shamless product placement had peaked with man of steel. Is that how desperate Disney is getting? They need to whore out to other brands and plug them as if this was a 50s commercial? I'm surprised Dawson doesn't say " man Zaratans really packs that down home flavor in every bite I sure do love zaratans seasonings and their meal kits from jambalaya to red beans and rice make dinner a snap!"

There's apparently a new Haunted Mansion movie and the only reason I know it exists is because of a State Farm ad that played before Oppenheimer. Talk about brilliant marketing.

"Hey ghost, I have this pen and pad that I bought from cvs"

In what world do people talk like this?

Should have gone all in the way Blues Brothers did.

Also the closest the Eddie Murphy haunted mansion ever got to the whole...it's the south and the south had slaves. Was that one line about Elizabeth being from "different worlds." But that had some subtlety to it. More so than Danny devito flat out saying the mansion is magic and never needed slaves. Either just say it's a mansion that didn't use slave labor (because not every wealthy family in the old south practiced it) or don't set it IN the old south. The ride has no backstory beyond, "its a mansion Walt Disney himself built for ghosts to retire too." You have a blank slate to tell litteraly ANY story you want and you recycle the same beats that failed 20 years ago.

iirc it's only the Disneyland (Cali) version that's in Louisiana. I think WDW (Florida) is New England and Paris is in the old west?

You know things are going badly for the Rat when even Forbes is talking about how Disney has lost almost $1B this year.

You have to wonder if Bob Iger is nervous whenever these things come up, or if he's so distracted by his slapfight with DeSantis/the state of Florida that he's oblivious to the house burning down around him. I'd kill to be a fly on the wall if the Investors started calling for blood with that kind of loss.

Disney's market cap value is still 158b, and dropping. A 2b loss in 2023 movies is a drop in the bucket. The Disney+ streaming loss is probably a bigger deal long term. But then, they've run their IP's into the ground and there's not much future growth ability.

Disney's next earning call is on the 10th so I wonder if we'll see a repeat of shareholder sneaking in to ask Iger why he's supporting woke shit (yes that happened at least 3-4 times last call).

That's an understatement. The entire brand is ruined at this point.

Before, Disney was well known for being a wholesome family company that told great stories with fantastic animation and nice parks to go to spend time on vacation.

Now, anytime Disney is brought up, it's associated with half-assed productions with piss-poor animation, parks where you need a degree in calculus just to even PLAN for it, and LOTS and LOTS of niggers fighting (whether it's in their parks or in the theaters)

I still love people who are like "ApPlE wiLl bUy DiSnEy!!!" Why exactly? The company is Napoleon's Empire in corporate form old and tired run by a lunatic who has no idea of cost in its basic form. He thinks buying more companies = more profit. No, it doesn't you retard, you still inherit those associated costs and problems. What's worse through all of this, Disney has no idea of who their audiences are.

Why would Apple want that, the company is too big and goes against the type of company Apple even is. Fuck even Apple TV is OK and has a few bangers when Disney Plus as a streaming platform is a hollow corpse. If something is not making money, you just cannot make it make money again. The brand is almost beyond repair at this point.

As are a lot of brands they purchased.

I understand they shoe-horned Lizzo into the last Mandalorian run, while I am still due to watch it at some point even those who are fans of both that I know were wincing slightly when I asked about that and admitting they did not like it.

Where you're losing those people you're in trouble Disney.

I hate Disney as much as anyone else here, but would disagree with this.

The benefit of buying Disney is that the old IP is still profitable. People may hate the new black Little Mermaid, but original Ariel is still bankable in spite of this. Pretty much anything Disney from pre-2016 can be marketed easily be it Frozen, Stitch, the general princess line up till Moana, and Pixar (even Turning Red seems to sell well). Hell, I will even go as far to say that Star Wars and Marvel still hold value. Taking it from a tech side, Apple getting a hold of Pixar's tech would also be a huge gain.

Hell naw nigga dont tell me what to do. They better not make any fuckin mermaids. Unless its by an Ugandan.

Aladdin is already full of arabs though, they don't have to do any raceswapping.
admit it tho nollywood little mermaid would be awesome
I keep seeing these two bits posted on social media, but this is missing some context. he rest of the comic may be a trash fire, but I don't think Marvel is making fun of Ben Grimm here -

even if the context is criticizing these kinds of people im perplexed that comic writers feel the need to remind people of the obnoxious people they have to listen to talk baout comics after they finish reading them
Super dumb. Australia has some of the worst internet and most boomers who don't know how to use it ever. Physical media is huge here (there are still some video stores!) so Disney is shooting themselves in the foot.
