Saw Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of The Black Pearl on the big screen last night. One of the Platonic ideals of a great popcorn movie. Great performances, witty dialogue, and all of the swashbuckling action you could possibly ask for. The only problem (and unfortunately it's kind of a big one): it's too damn long. if they shaved about half an hour (particularly after the first 40 minutes or so), it'd be damn near perfect. As it is, it's still pretty damn good.

I even liked part 5, despite it flaws. 4 is the worst POTC movie in my opinion. But as long is Disney is such a giant pile of wokeshit there should be no new movie. Also Johnny Depp is too old.

I still remember seeing it when it originally came out in theaters, I was one of two people who laughed at the eunuch joke. I gotta disagree with you on the length though since I think the plot is pretty airtight.

POTC 3 would have never been made in the current Disney wokeshit era. Part of it takes place in Singapore so that's racist and cultural appropriation. The pirate lords would be seen as harmful racist stereotypes, so they also can't be used, there is no gayshit and so on.

But how many sub-saharan men and women are in state-mandated starring roles? That's what really matters, at least, that's what baizuo teachers tell me.

They didn't really have much support from Disney so the fact that it is still so beloved after all these years shows how great of the film it is
just the entire eisner era disney is beloved because it was a fuckload of people that just wanted to make good shit. there were more goofy cartoons made in the 1990s than the entire time before that combined. i'd be surprised if zoomers were a fan of non-MCU disney stuff because they missed out on ducktales/goof troop era content and most of the disney channel slop and disney+ hadn't been released yet so unless you had older siblings you probably missed out entirely on "the classics"
The fact that they could have had representation and still made Snow White's appearance consistent with her name by simply hiring an Asian chick just makes it obvious that the decision was made entirely for outrage marketing.
its also because asians and latinos aren't as good at chimping out as blacks and jews actually see those two groups as a threat instead of total golems they can humiliate white people with.

Its the same reason they pick the ugliest representations of blacks or ricans instead of ones that might actually fit. like there were plenty of black starfire cosplayers that made it work, same with ariel and others. You just have to get the core stuff down.

I only saw it once in the cinema, but I had a good time with part 5. I should revisit. I feel like it was a film that got written off by many people not giving it a chance.

I only saw part 4 in the cinema and did not enjoy. There were maybe a few fun sequences, but I was mostly bored and unengaged. Jack and Elizabeth were the core to the original films working. Just having Jack Sparrow go along with some shit happening in part 4 wasn't enough. Part 5 seemed to understand that better.

Thank god to have grown up in the 80's then.

The animation Renaissance was something else man.

We were dealing with essentially two decades of mediocrity thanks to the Dark age and the youngsters were just raring to make something but bigwigs didn't let them until it was almost too late.

It had a good run from the late 1980s until around the mid-2000s, but now we're more or less in another Dark age but replace toy driven media with CGI nonsense and remakes

4 was interesting at least at the beginning when they showed the hijinks in London. 5 was utterly forgettable to me and I saw that in Theatres.

You’re in luck @Lone MacReady II as the film has a prominent Native American main character.
The only remotely positive thing that happened in the last ten years was watching this complete and utter no-talent hack finally fall from grace.

He had a brief moment of resurrection after his messy divorce, but he's such a drunken layabout that he finally got shipped off to a glue factory. I hope DiCaprio will join him there.

Name an American Indian who's not self-entitled.
that bitch from Fish Tank seems pretty ok.

Was this the first time you saw the movie or just the first time on the big screen?
