The Sunday Times: Snow White review — Disney has trashed its crown jewel and its reputation (archive)

Rachel Zegler is watery and ineffectual while Gal Gadot attempts to vamp it up in a sanctimonious reboot that marks a new low. Bring a sick bag

Rachel Zegler as Snow White

Believe the anti-hype. It’s that bad. This latest Disney adaptation was yanked from prerelease marketing duties — the London premiere was axed — for good reason. It represents a new low for cultural desecration and for a venerable 102-year-old entertainment company that now looks at its source material with a pinched nose of disgust.

When the Snow White star Rachel Zegler, during a now notorious Vanity Fair interview, dismissed the Disney original as a politically retrograde “85-year-old cartoon”, she was merely echoing the same clueless company vandals who had, in previous reboots, made Cruella soppy, Mulan sexless and Maleficent misunderstood.

Tangling with the 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs is different, though. The movie was the pre-eminent Disney property, the first animated American feature, and the one that set the tone. Its dismissal has thus oddly mythic implications, like a line crossed, or the end of an era.

And so this Snow White, cooked up by The Amazing Spider-Man director Marc Webb and umpteen screenwriters (including Greta Gerwig and Jez Butterworth) through a near decade’s development, emerges as the epitome of Disney’s Pravda-like approach to contemporary adaptation — prescriptive politics first, followed by “inspirational” messaging, followed by more politics. And drama? And story? And character? Nope. These are, it seems, decadent tools of the oppressor.

Has Gadot ever had a good performance??? Even at her peak (Fast 5) she was just supposed to be IDF calendar eye candy.
I'd say her 'best' performance was the first Wonder Woman, but that was mainly due to having Chris Pine to bounce off of. You know you're a shit actress when generic superhero slop is the peak of your acting prowess.

I saw many of the early reviews and man it really is alarming that Zegler has the best performance in this movie while some say this is Gadot's worst performance.

Like I am not going to watch this trash to find out since the whole movie seems really insufferable.

Anyway this is some great marketing for Lilo and Stitch

“Nobody wished for this.”
No shit.

His eyes look like from a spider's.

Why do people pretend this ghoulish Khazar plank is attractive?
I'm convinced that it's some kind of Mossad astroturfing. I'd write it off as some people having shit taste if it was just people online commenting, "oh yeah, Gadot is rather pretty" but they all inevitably go overboard in describing her as some kind of ethereal beauty on par with prime Jennifer Connelly which tips me off that it's not legit.

In balloting at the Bob Iger-run media giant’s virtual annual shareholders meetings this morning, Disney investors solidly voted down an effort to cut ties with a respected equality study from a top LGBTQ+ group. Following unanimous recommendations from the James Gorman chaired board, the shareholders also said No to an Elon Musk inclined measure to probe Disney’s alleged moves in recent years “to demonetize platforms, podcasts, news outlets, and others for expressing disfavored political and religious viewpoints.”
With references to Musk, X and the pulling of advertising from the social media platform in late 2023 after the now DOGE boss personally endorsed an antisemitic post, the Respect Civil Liberties in Advertising Services proposal came out against the now-shuttered Global Alliance for Responsible Media. Specifically, the proposal resolved: “Shareholders request the Board of Directors of The Walt Disney Company conduct an evaluation and issue a report within the next year, at reasonable cost and excluding proprietary information and confidential information, evaluating how it oversees risks related to discrimination against ad buyers and sellers based on their political or religious status or views.”

Even more nakedly MAGA, the Request to Cease CEI Participation proposal claims the perfect score Disney has received from the Human Rights Campaign’s annual Corporate Equality Index since 2007 is bad for business. “The threat of a bad score is wielded against corporations to force them to do the political bidding of HRC and others (like GLSEN, the Trevor Project and GLAAD, which Disney also has paid partnerships with) that seek to sow gender confusion in children, encourage irreversible surgical procedures on confused teens, effectively eliminate girls’ and women’s sports and bathrooms, and roll back longstanding religious liberties,” the item said. Noting how corporations such as Jack Daniels, Harley Davidson, and Toyota have all dropped out of HRC’s CEI since Trump 2.0 started, the proposal makes a leap of ugly faith by equating the company’s participation in the index as one of the reasons for Disney’s share price going down in the last few years.
holy shit, they really are dead set on imploding, huh?

I think she was pretty enough in BvS/ the first Wonder Woman flick, but after that she got astroturfed everywhere and caked on the makeup (or had work done) and now I’m just sick of her. If Gunn’s DCU survives long enough to bring in WW I’d ideally want Gina Carano to play her

>brown country lives happily and peacefully
>jew comes in and violently takes over and starts oppressing everyone

what did disney mean by this?

Not only is there going to be a second Coco but they're making an Encanto 2.

The kicker is that they're still trying to come up with an idea for the story...
Man, it's almost like that was the same scenario regarding Moana 2.
Moana at least had the excuse of its sequel originally being an episodic television show. I have no idea what either sequel they're proposing here could work with.

Well, at least that answers the longstanding question of how shareholders could allow the CEO and board of so many companies to tank profitability to push the Marxist agenda.

It turns out the shareholders are as woke as the CEO/board and the employees.
