"Hmmmm, families aren't going to our parks as much anymore because our attractions are shit/being closed down, our prices are high, and Disney Adults are making them uncomfortable. How do we resolve this?"

"I got it! We raise the prices even HIGHER!"
Reminds me of the inverse of what the brothers in the "The Founder" movie about McDonalds were explaining how they made changes to their restaurant in order for it be successful.

One important point was getting rid of cigarette machines and jukeboxes in order to drive off the "riff-raff". Losing short term profit generators in order to appeal long term to "family" customers who would buy more food in one sitting and do so at higher frequencies.

Disney has done the opposite. They added in "Jukeboxes and cigarette machines" into their parks for short term profit from the "riff-raff" (Disney adults and niggers) those attract at the long term loss of their core family customers. They are experiencing that long term loss right now, and boy does it feel good to see.

Whatever. It was my favorite movie today, it’ll be your Treasure Planet or Tangled tomorrow. Keep riiiight on giving them your money, and keep letting influencers regurgitate the same four obvious facts to you over and over, because they paid Disney to make a talking-point for their content benefit. Whatever.

Normie retards are so fucking stupid that they open their wallets to literally have worse versions of pre-existing stories shoved down their throats because they're so emotionally stunted that they just want to continue to pretend they're still five years old when they first watched the original versions of these movies.

I’ll probably end up watching Tron: Ares in theatres but I do have skepticism because I love The Grid and being off the Grid is not too enticing. From what I’m hearing, it’s pure visuals and Nine Inch Nails soundtrack (pales in comparison to Daft Punk’s) with little else redeeming, especially compared to Legacy. I also hate how this movie isn’t a direct sequel to Legacy because that means following a bunch of people we don’t care about.

I recently went to Disneyland (again, being a SoCal resident that has access to Disney's monthly payment plans for Magic Keys helps) and I still see families going there on the regular. The rise in ticket prices won't keep them (and tourists, Disney Adults, and lolcow watchers) away.

What might keep them away is the sheer cost of a Disneyland trip in general, not only do you have to worry about ticket prices but you also have to worry about:
  • Hotel costs: varies but I've seen prices between $2,000–$2,200 for a three-night stay, you can lessen the blow by staying at a non-resort hotel.
  • Parking: $40 (yes, it was originally $35)
  • Lightning Lane: starts at $32 per person for their Multi-Pass, anywhere between $15-25 for Single Passes (which are only used by Rise of the Resistance and Radiator Springs Racers, Mickey's Runaway Railway used to but was bumped down to Multi Lane status), and $300-$400 per person for their Premier Pass which includes both Multi and Single Pass rides and ignores the former two options' return time caveat. They're not a requirement but they do help when lines become a bit much.
  • Food: varies but expect $30 per person at a minimum. Oh, and did I also mention that the quality of said food has gone down since pre-COVID times?
  • Merchandise: no explanation needed, you already know you're gonna spend hundreds of dollars on this alone.
It honestly a grim sight but Disneyland trips have always been something of a luxury item when you think about. If you want to do a day trip you're better off going to Universal Studios Hollywood or Legoland.

I have not been to any of the parks, but I did stop at Disney Springs (the outdoor mall), and was horrified at how much those stupid mouse ear headbands were… Something like $60+ depending on how fancy they were.

The good thing about them is they're impossible to pack, so they'll inevitably be crushed in your luggage.

I guess it doesn't really matter though cause even the most Disney-fied retard wouldn't wear them anywhere but the park.

I had a pass about 20 years ago and ended up buying a Nightmare Before Christmas top hat kinda of thing to wear at the park and it was like $30... that hat would probably be almost $100 today it looks like, definitely not worth anywhere near that.

I'm trying to go in blind but critical drinker doesn't like Tron. I'm wondering if its going to turn into Morbus 2 and I can't wait for tomorrow

Disney is so fucking stupid for rising prices. I haven't gone in years and was thinking about going under the assumption they'd lower it.

Chatting with someone at the gym yesterday about movies. I mentioned I'll go see the new Tron. They were all, "oh is that out, I really liked Tron Legacy." I mentioned the new one doesn't follow on and they were, "Oh..." loss of interest.

I geeked the fuck out when Legacy was coming out. I was young back then so that might have factored into it, but I got the Tron disc, a glow-in-the-dark shirt, got Tron: Evolution. I was so obsessed it actually affected my grades in school.

That enthusiasm is gone now. I don’t really care about Ares.

I was never a huge Tron fan, I don't think I'd even seen the original before I watched Legacy, but I really enjoyed it at the time. This was before 3D's novelty had worn off, so that helped, and I even went out of my way to see a 3D IMAX screening. The soundtrack in particular really stood out for me, so much so that I went out and bought a copy as soon as I left the theater (and I never bought music). Visually it was gorgeous, and while the actual story might not be amazing (honestly I barely remember what happened), it was still entertaining for me.

Like you, though, I don't really have much enthusiasm to see this one. Like Drinker said in his review, the whole fun of Tron is getting to see the digital world; it's considerably less interesting to have programs running around in boring ol' reality. And it sounds like they don't even do anything interesting with the idea or explore the concept of AI's humanity in any meaningful way, it's just an excuse for a boring plot (not to mention having Flynn's son fuck off entirely, so fuck you if you wanted to see what happened to him and his robo GF).

Tron is such a weird franchise that keeps popping up from time to time, with nobody seeming to know what to do with it anymore. The idea of getting sucked into the digital world and seeing representations of how programs and computers work was novel in the 80's, but now that tech is such a ubiquitous part of our daily lives, that same sense of wonder isn't there anymore, not to mention how dystopian modern tech has become doing the concept no favors. This one will probably have a middling performance at best, Disney will forget about the IP for another decade or two, and then they'll dredge it up again when they have nothing better to do.

they just want to continue to pretend they're still five years old when they first watched the original versions of these movies.
Adults do not think like children. Adults cannot be children partly because they have adult thoughts and respond to things like an adult and cannot return to the innocence of childhood. Disney Adults remind me of Harry Potter Millennials in some ways.
Well, at least they've started remaking stuff recent enough in the Disney timeline
Because this is a nostalgia cash grab and cheaper and lazier instead of making a 2D movie based on European folklore or maybe Anansi the Spider if they want to branch out into Africa instead.

There wasn't anyone to do with it ever
It was a flop that was fondly remembered for weird visuals and some decent video games.
Disney wanted to do tie-in shit as basic as a Flynn's Arcade at EPCOT Center but dropped it after it bombed
The arcade games got steam when mame became a thing, then armagettron, then Tron 2.0
That was the upper limit for Tron. Everything else has been forcing a Cult Classic to punch at Bond levels

Things got worse than what was shown in the movies, and the Internet got increasingly centralized, gay and lame. There's no way normies can get behind the idea of getting inside a computer anymore. Although I bet it has to do with Disney no longer having anyone who understands how sci-fi works.

I had plenty of concerns going in, but Tron Ares turned out to be a very fun spectacle movie. Now I will preface this by saying it is a MUST watch for 3D, but by no means would I say it's a shitty movie if your looking for some popcorn action and wanted to see what Tron/real world looked like.

Pros

  • Music is a 10 outta 10 banger
  • The fight scenes are very well choreographed and innovative. This shit completely blows marvel/star wars out of the water and I loved that they added more weapons to the programs arsenal without taking away the disks.
  • The light cycle chase in the city was fantastic.
  • The effects again are absolutely amazing in 3D. If it's not Avatar Tier its pretty dam close
  • The grid art design is really well done and the suits line up with Legacy. There's a segment were they recreate the look of the OG Tron which I thought was really impressive.
  • The memberberrys callback to Tron, is worked into the plot well.
  • Flynn is given a ton of respect and I like that he's given much more mythical reverence then say Luke in the sequel's.
  • I rather liked Leto in this. He's certainly playing to his strengths by being a rigid seemingly emotionless AI. He even emotes a bit at the end lol. Overall a better showing then Morbius.
  • The balance between the Tron and real world scenes was perfectly fine. There's enough crossover and tension I wasn't even thinking about it.
  • The villains are pretty great. They worked in the legacy of Dillenger (David Warner) quite a bit and have a whole rival company lead by his wife and other son. (Cillian Murphy isn't in this sadly). They have a legit good character dynamic and the mother isn't ridiculously overbearing. The token black chick is shockingly good and actually sold herself as a threat and as an inhuman machine.
  • There's no traditional rainbow shit in this or overbearing wokeness, questionable casting choices aside (ill get to them)
  • They dont half ass the destruction and they make the derezz scenes as violent as possible.
  • the burning man joke isn't in the movie
  • The movie tells a fun self contained story that basically illuminates what could have happened if Clu got out.
  • They clearly want to make a sequel with Sam and Quorra

Cons
  • So there's a new female Asian lead that is the New CEO of ENCOM ( Greta Lee). She's perfectly fine acting wise, but she's not what I would consider super attractive.
  • The film does a Shitty job explaining what her connection to Flynn is, we know she's a fangirl. We know Sam gave ENCOM to her. We just never find out WHY. She's not especially stupid or an arrogent bitch by any means, it just vexed me that we knew her motivations but not her qualifications.
  • Her work partner is the most annoying fucking character in the movie. He's not in it that much thank god but he was the worst acted and written guy. ( spic Arturo Castro)
  • While Lee's off looking for secret Flynn cashes she decides to leave a Pajeet in charge of ENCOM. (Hasan Minhaj) He of course fucks everything up Lol
  • Respect and footprint aside, Sam and Quorra are not in the dam movie. Also Tron isnt even mentioned. (ill give them some credit for not saying anything bad. You can easily infer he's hanging out with Flynn)
  • Flynn's overall Status is a bit ambiguous/ obtuse. (presumably Sam transferred his consciousness?) I also had trouble hearing some of his dialogue, presumably better in IMAX.
  • Why does Leto have programmed facial hair?

Overall I can understand why people did not like it, but I got exactly what I wanted and had a good time. Honestly hope it makes its money back.

Hollywood’s neglect of genre-savvy writers, particularly those who focus on detailed world-building, makes everything shallow and dumb. These writers, frequently detail-oriented men, make detailed worlds that resonate with audiences, even if they don't consciously notice the intricacies.

Hiring those who prioritise human drama over the "rules" of a fictional universe leads to projects like Star Wars shows that break canon and lore, dismissing criticism as overreaction to “space wizard nonsense.” Star Trek shows about exploring strange new worlds that end up focusing on Spock's love life. A series based on a beloved fantasy series that just ignores and changes the rules of the world willy nilly to fit the new story.
This disregard for established settings reduces complex genres to simplistic tropes.

For Tron: Ares, early reviews suggest it leans on visuals and action while neglecting the story and world-building. Which is dumb because that's what made the franchise interesting. It just makes the Tron world a back drop. It also neglects human drama, but it still servers the point of not understanding the genre setting and world of Tron.

Then to make Tron: Ares disconnected from Legacy is fucking stupid. They don't understand why people liked it. Boil it down to some basic themes, music and visuals. Completely undermines the franchise’s foundation for the sake of generic spectacle.
