It literally looks like the same movie but with CG. The same exact shots at the same exact angles. And people are eating it up quicker than a goddamn cake at an obesity clinic.

Make something new, you hacks.

Look at that cast list. Donald Glover, Seth Rogan, John Oliver, Key and Peel, Beyonce. With talent like that, it can't possibly fail. Knocking it out of the park Disney! Keep the hits coming!

That's what gets me about these new movies: They are cast horribly. Compare this to the original movie which had James Earl Jones, Rowan Atkinson, Nathan Lane and Jeremy Irons among other talented cast members. Whereas the new movies the only people I can remember are Emma Watson playing a really shitty Belle and...that's about it really

Eurgh, it just looks ugly. The original film is so pretty in the animation angle and this just looks like some schmancy Animal Project mockumentary.

Anyone fear this'll get wokewashed to get the appeal of Tumblr feminists? They did that with Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast...

I heard they were taking out Scar's "Be Prepared" tune.

YOU JUST KEEPING HITTING THOSE HOME RUNS DISNEY.

I heard that too. That is one of the stupidest decisions to ever make.

I mean, I can forgive the CGI, because it doesn't look bad (but it is unnecessary), but that was probably the best song number in the movie besides Circle of Life.
It's apparent they really don't care what we liked.

Be Prepared is def the best song of the movie and Disney is stupid for underestimating just how much people love Scar.

Boy howdy I can't wait for them to politicize the hyena race relations shit.

The trailer for The Lion King just wasn’t that interesting. It’s pretty much shot-for-shot of the original. From the Disney remakes I have seen, they end up being more of a let-down because the parts they add aren’t that great usually, and the parts they take out are usually the ones I love. Of the Disney remakes, The Jungle Book was a better adaptation than Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty, and Cinderella.

Maleficent was a pretty wretched movie. It took probably one of the best Disney villains and made it a joke. Plus it implied that she's bumping uglies with her pet crow.

....Beauty and the Beast is still the worst one though.

Maleificent sucked as a “villain” in Maleificent because they tried to make her so sympathetic that it took out the mysterious nature. A straight-up evil villain would have been better for that particular movie since the name of the villain literally means evil-doer in Latin. Also, Maleificent should have turned into the dragon, not the crow sidekick.

When I first heard about the movie I was actually excited. A character study fall from grace kind of movie would have been neat. But then they basically made her Aurora's de facto surrogate mom and gave us a stupid sideplot about her wings and how she was never evil and blah blah blah.

It's okay to just have a movie where good people turn bitter and evil and stay that way. It really would have been new waters for Disney to tread in terms of pathos.

Sadly, having a character stay evil would have been too much of a risk. What happened to the studio that killed off Bambi’s mom after developing a connection to that character? I want that kind of Disney again

Have any of the remakes really been any good? They either change the things that made the original fun or are just stale scene-by-scene copypastes.

Only remakes of films that were already live action. And even then I can only honestly say The Parent Trap and Freaky Friday were any good. Still, they take in cash as nostalgia pandering works stupidly well. Hollywood has more or less become that episode of The Critic where Jay wrote a really good script and was paid buckets to make it vanish so as to not draw attention to how bad the movies were. It's easier to make a bad film and if it sells, why bother?

I consider even those to be pretty damn weak, better than say, Beauty and the Beast, but still pretty bad.
