I too love 3 minutes of unnecessary dancing in the middle of a perfectly good song number.
This and songs that aren't very good and add nothing to the plot are why I generally dislike musicals. This is particularly unforgiving when there are a ton of songs that serve no purpose aside from padding out the running time.

I see where you're coming from but there's a reason musicals are grouped with comedies in the Oscars. They're meant to be fun, and if that means a song number pointless to the plot, so be it. Besides, what's more important to a film than being enjoyable to watch? I mean there are certainly points where these films drag, the Portabello Road dance number as an obvious example, but I find it hard to say that any song from The Sound of Music should be cut, despite it being a 3 hour behemoth with a necessary intermission. Maybe Climb Every Mountain, but even then. At the end of the day though, it really is just a matter of personal taste, I like pointless singing, but not pointless dancing. It's why I have a vendetta for Westside Story.

Just Disney being a reckless capitalist.

Lion King: Petition calls on Disney to drop 'hakuna matata' trademark

A petition accusing Disney of "colonialism and robbery" for trademarking a phrase used in the film The Lion King has attracted more than 30,000 signatures.

"Hakuna matata" means "no problem" or "no worries" in the Swahili language, which is spoken across East Africa.

Disney first applied to trademark the catchphrase in 1994 - the same year it released The Lion King animation.

The row has arisen now amid hype over its live-action remake.

Petition organiser Shelton Mpala hopes he can persuade the US company to abandon its "hakuna matata" trademark.

"A lot of Swahili speakers have been utterly shocked, they had no idea this was happening," Mr Mpala told the BBC.

"Growing up in Zimbabwe, I always had an understanding that a culture's language was its richness."

Disney has not responded to the BBC's request for comment.

The Lion King franchise also includes a stage musical, merchandise such as T-shirts and toys, and computer games, plus several film sequels and TV spin-offs.

Mr Mpala says he is not a Swahili speaker but he believes the trademark is merely the latest example of Africa being "exploited in some shape, fashion or form".

He is not alone.

Some Kenyan newspapers have also accused Disney of stealing from Kenyan culture by claiming ownership of the phrase, and the current debate appears to have started with this article on the Business Daily Africa news site.

News of the trademark has also angered many on social media:

Some see it as a missed opportunity that African companies could have capitalised on:

While others say they first associate it with a different "Hakuna Matata" song by Kenyan band The Mushrooms released a decade before the Disney film, and later covered by Boney M:

This is probably off-topic or kinda spergy, but I feel the princess-obsessed fans are more obnoxious than other regular Disney spergs. They only talk about role models or dresses or "omg, Sleeping Beauty is better than Snow White" and little else. They claim to be huge Disney fans but they dismiss every single movie out there by Disney that isn't a princess film. They complain about bad / good female characters but they dismiss every female character that isn't a princess because...I don't know, wearing plain clothes instead of fancy gowns is evil I guess.

The good thing is, tho, that their bullshit morality and preachiness doesn't touch the good underrated films like the Great Mouse Detective or the Three Caballeros.

And that is good. Not everything needs to have princesses to still work their impact on us.

Anybody over the age of 12 who only focuses on Disney Princesses, is by definition a complete sperg. Especially if they're over 30 and spending $400 on a Disney Princess purse by some stupidly fancy designer. And I know they're out there because there's some jewelry store that has a Disney Princess jewelry collection. Either Zales or Kay Jewelers, one of those.

On the topic of the Disney parks, someone went to Epcot and stole an animatronic from an abandoned attraction: https://www.news965.com/news/local/...-disney-epcot/sA02tD2GeYw9jzxYlwpiyM/amp.html

Orlando, Fla. -
An adorable animatronic from a former location at Disney's Epcot has reportedly been stolen.

Cranium Command is an old attraction in the park that was part of the Wonders of Life Pavilion. The ride featured Buzzy, an audio animatronic that helped a young boy inside his head navigate through daily struggles. However, Buzzy was stolen from his post and is still missing.

The attraction has been dormant at the Wonders of Life Pavilion since January of 2007. Since then, the spot has been used as a Festival Center. Although the area where Body Wars was has been mostly demolished, Cranium Command has been rotting ever since. According to sources at Disney, the theater which housed the attraction is also set to be destroyed due to structural issues.

However, stealing an animatronic is no easy job. It would take someone or a group of people who knew how to dismantle it and carry the heavy object. Sources say there was hydraulic oil spilled where Buzzy was taken.

There has reportedly been an arrest made, but still no sign of Buzzy. Anyone who knows where he might be is asked to contact the Orange County Police Department. There is also support on twitter with the hashtag #FindBuzzy.

Either an inside job or there's some hilarious security camera footage of the culprit smuggling that thing out in a stroller pretending it's some mutant baby.
That would be interesting to see how they did it.

Dumb thought, but think they'll ever make 2D animated films again? Those would probably sell like hotcakes for all the nostalgic folks, without being as outstandingly mediocre as the live action remakes they've been shitting out this past decade.

Doubtful. It’s time and labor intensive. Even with studios in India/HB1 visa holders doing the animation, it’s still too much work to gamble on.

No, never. If I remember correctly, they had significant problems with the Princess and the Frog because they had converted all their 2d animation studio space after Home on the Range failed. Not only had they lost a ton of people with the knowledge and experience needed to create a 2d animated movie, but they also did not have the physical tools necessary to produce one. The gap between HotR and PatF was five years. We're now ten years out from PatF. Even if they were going to attempt to create a new 2d movie, it would likely be heavily computer assisted and thus look and feel nothing like a traditional 2d feature.

Hell, they literally had to pull a bunch of old men out of retirement to do the animation in Mary Poppins Returns:

Finding 2D animators in the era of CGI was no simple task for the production. “A lot of them had to come out of retirement to do the movie,” director Rob Marshall told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s just not done anymore.” Among the returning Disney legends was James Baxter, the lead designer of Belle in Beauty and the Beast.

Any princess fan who doesn't count Nala as a princess is a thot. She's literally the only princess who goes deliberately in search of her prince and has the nerve to tell him off when he starts acting like a manbaby.
