They already did an African-American princess, and that satisfies their diversity quota for now.
I wish they would do an actual African myth/legend, not just a European fairytale with a black person as the character/Hamlet with lions.

I’d also love some Eastern European style stories. Though given modern Disney they’d just fuck up Baba Yaga. If she was done as a villain by the same people who came up with Maleficent, or even better- Madame Mim from Sword in the Stone it’d be really cool. Vasilisa the Beautiful could be both creepy and cool, but it would’ve been better done by the classic 2D studio, I wouldn’t trust modern Disney.

Yeah it sucks that animated movies, no matter how amazing they are, will never be seen more than just kids movies.

We obviously know they are so much more, but sadly people just dont care. And thus watch whatever garbage animated films are out there just because.

Hopefully movies like The Incredibles 2 and SpiderVerse would make people be more interested in seeing animated movies.

Until then we're just going to have crap like Boss Baby or another Ice Age sequel.

A question Id like to ask you guys is what type of disney princess is Disney going to come up with next?

Im guess an African princess since "my wokeness" and such.
I was thinking azn princess for the Asia movie market, but we already have Mulan and the live action version. I'm gonna guess Japanese then, with Disney trying to pander to weebs.

I'd want Ivan Tsarvich. I'm sure there's a really good movie in his quest for the fire bird and the princess.

I know Russia already did a few Ivan Tsarvich animated features themselves. Typical kid movie pap.

France's Michel Ocelot also did one himself, using a style reminiscent of Lotte Reiniger's work.

Lately I watched previews for "Mickey's Roadster Racers" and very nearly had a Disney dream....that I forgot.

She probably doesn't "count" as a "true" African princess 'cause she had to marry into royalty (despite the prince being cut out of the will, it sounds like) and didn't sing praises to Wakanda. Charlotte was more of a princess than Tiana, and is the more popular character to boot.

Personally, I think Disney should just go down the fantasy route more and just make themselves an elf or fairy/sprite princess. If only to get the Tinkerbell fans peeved off that she can't count as a princess.

Staying in fantasy certainly would help than to try to go real world.

Officially, she counts and she's on the merchandise, but she's one of the least princess-y of the bunch, barring the ones who weren't actually princesses.

I'm personally ok with Leia being considered a "Disney Princess" (She doesn't appear to be an official one though.)

Edit: At this rate, they'll probably make Rey one in some last ditch effort to save Star Wars.

Wouldn't Ripleycount as a Disney Princessnow? And the Xenomorph Queenbe something of another bland Disney villain like that Maleficent weirdo?

In other Disney news, went to see The Mule and I am absolutely disgusted that all the other movies playing were Disney, with posters for Disney and most trailers before the film being fucking Disney. Make it stop.

Interesting thought. I'm sure people still wish Eilonwy, Kira and even Maid Marion were already Disney Princessby now.

It can get very excessive.

Watch them not even use Sigourney Weaver's likeness and imstead use the pudgier version of Ripley from The Great Movie Ride for the sake of "fat empowerment".

To be fair if she doesn't give them permission to use her likeness there's nothing they can do about that.

iirc Great Movie Ride ended up with some money issues because Turner started getting creative about how to measure usage of Casablanca and Wizard of Oz or something, too

That is pretty standard in these situations. Not getting the right to use that likeness can change a lot in the final result.

That's why they didn't add Enchanted's Giselle to the Disney Princess line. Originally they were ready to add her but Amy Adams paid a lot for her royalties and being the cheap rats they are they refused.

Yeah, I heard about that...
Allegedly, Ingrid Bergman's family refused to let Disney use her soundbites from Casablanca (even though they gave her physical likeness the greenlight).

Ted Turner put his foot down when Disney contemplated putting the Tornado scene from Oz since they already had two scenes from that film featured in the ride (Munchkinland and the road to Oz), so they turned it into a Fantasia scene at the last minute. If you look carefully, you'll see that they even kept the fans that were originally intended to simulate a tornado:

When shit like that happens I'm marginally more sympathetic to them keeping to using IP they own free and clear.
