"Diverse" works that aren't woke - when diversity does not fuck a movie/game/book/show up

Arcane is actually good, which is wild considering its origins. I really didn't feel like watching it, with the He-man Californyanya haircut they gave to lezbo Vee, but I was very pleasantly surprised by it.

It is hyped, but especially with today's slop it stands out.

Jojo is fine too, though I don't think woke people could like that. It depicted the world without any sugarcoating for all sides.

There was a CBS drama in the 90s called Early Edition about a cat that delivers newspapers from the future (amazing premise for a show), anyway one of the main characters is a blind black woman. And while I can imagine a modern show having such a character, the thing about how it was portrayed in Early Edition is that it was just not a big deal that she happened to be blind, or black. Whereas a modern show would constantly be reminding us of these traits.

I watched that show religiously back then. Incredible.

The A team. For an 80s (man)child this was a mandatory watch. They had MR T the wrestling negro wearing the gold chains playing BA Baracus as one of the main characters. All we noticed were the chains. All that was talked about were the chains. Life was good.

I scoured this whole thread to make sure it wasn't mentioned, since it's pretty obvious, Living Single. It was so good it was ripped off and turned in to Friends. I also really liked Becker with Ted Danson.

Even "owning the bigots" was tastefully done there too. If we had a racist grandma like theirs, we would troll her with Black friends too.

I love that scene. When he places the cigarette on his tongue to light it in such dramatic fashion was so funny. They knew exactly how to play up stereotypes to drive that bitch crazy.

I don’t know if anyone else mentioned it but “The Lego Movie” was diverse in the sense that the ideas, color-coordinated Lego sets, ideas, themes and comedic approach to the movie was something so unique that it makes the sequel look really disappointing.

Just the fact that it’s over 10+ years old says a lot, and it really drives home the fact that it’s just a great example of fun filled entertainment without being heavy handed about Lego sets.

Resident Alien. The first two seasons had a Muslim girl who was the best friend of the boy who can see the aliens true forms (she's gone in this current season though, not sure why, maybe she didn't want to be in a TV show anymore or something, so she was written out as 'moving away'), but she was just another kid on the show. No constant mentions of being Muslim, Muslim culture etc, just....an actual character with her own personality and not token. Same goes for all the other minorities in the show, they are actually individuals rather than just shoehorned in for diversity. Plus there isn't a lot of them, which makes sense for a small town, the majority cast is still white.
The second season was a complete slog though, especially the weird mayor BDSM shit. The third was luckily, much better. I don't know what it is about modern shows having a whole season that is mostly filler.

Zulu! is a great movie where most of the characters are black. I strongly recommend it.

I struggled to take it seriously. It was very melodramatic for such a silly show attached to a MOBA of all things. I also found the main girl, whatever name is, very unlikeable. Butch dyke women who punch things very hard and gets angry a lot just aren't my cup of tea.
