Diversity is important because a video game is much more than its gameplay - vg247 completely misses the point of why people play video games.

The worst part of this whole thing is I would be inclined to agree that AAA games DO underrepresent certain groups in their protagonists, such as actual human beings and overrepresent groups like trained monkeys or lemmings. Even Bioshock knew wtf was up, though they didn't fix anything.

You don't solve the probe by making your lemmings trans gay fat poc otherkin lemmings.

It's sad when motherfucking Spider-Man is the most relatable character in a AAA release in years, since half the dialogue in the game is shit real people can relate to. No one relates to life is strange or Commander Shepard. They're lying if they say they do.

I'm just getting really tired of the notion of 'representation' in anything. But like said here, the notion that women can only like video games if they also star women is totally nonsensical. And it's why 'girl games', like low quality Barbie-tie-in trash exists in the first place; they look down on women's ability to branch out beyond the tired cliches they associate with them.

The article itself encourages playing who you aren't ("get in someone else's skin"), so then why are they obsessed with the notion that minorities (this apparently includes women for them) can only like something if it stars a carbon copy of what they are in real life?

Make a good story along with your gameplay and anyone can and will wind up liking the character, playing as them, etc, without giving a fuck about their race, gender, age, sexuality, etc.

The most hated characters generally aren't *that* at all: characters.
And when that's all you obsess over, imagine how transparent the real motive becomes: This isn't a story, it's an agenda disguised as entertainment.

surprise surprise, he's actually a FUCKING WHITE MALE but don't worry, he personally knows what wimminz and the minorities want out of their video games.

Women can't enjoy historically accurate WWII shooters because they have to play as a FUCKING WHITE MALE the whole time.

I'd like to thank this generic white male for speaking on my behalf. As a woman I am too weak and too busy in the kitchen to write an article about how I need constant representation and validation in video games. Sadly, I rarely get to play video games because I'm too busy vacuuming and making sandwiches.:(

But it's good to know that my vagina is so important that historical accuracy has to take a back seat to my delicate female feelings. Thanks Kirk. You really know how to treat a lady. Please allow me to offer you a sandwich.:sub:

Same goes for men but when it's about men then it's not pandering. When it's about minorities and women, watch how certain assholes come out of the woodwork and reeee about supposed pandering -no matter how great the writing is.

Sorry, but i stopped reading at "Kirk 'fart noises' Mckeand".
Imagine that the only thing that makes you more angry than your career-choice are the demographic of people that read your articles and fail to buy games from pussywhipped studios and franchises.

I don't deny male pandering exists as well. I just see it more so when dealing with the proclaimed 'minorities' of gaming, like women and different races.

All of it makes me sick though. Just make a good story first and foremost is my mentality.
