The Reverse Midas Touch effect never ends
I know I'm way late with this one, but the general consensus I've seen others make in addition to my own observations is that Google's decline began in the latter half of the 2010s. That was around the time I remember my search results getting less comprehensive, and when the Image Search function was irreparably neutered. Ergo, the timeframe of its decline coincides perfectly with their street-shitting CEO taking the reigns. People will always argue that correlation is not causation, but no one can convince me that these two facts are unrelated. Import the third-world, you become the third-world.

Google decided that the purpose of a search engine isn't to connect the user to what they are trying to find as quickly as possible, but to connect them to what Google wants them to find, particularly when it's an advertiser's site, political propaganda, or a "nudge" toward the mainstream center-left. Every other search I've used is even worse, somehow.

Now they have an option for "verbatim" in tools that remove the AI responses, and they also got rid of that fugly ass circle UI they had going on. Google is still pretty bad though. The AI overview is so easy, and I hate how it took them up until this point to add an option to get it off. Qwant and DuckDuckgo are decent, but their ability to search for articles in the news tab can be pretty iffy.

Whenever I am forced to use a Google product and come face-to-face with the data rape demon also known as Gemini I always report it with their feedback tool. Even if it goes into a black hole it makes me feel better that I can waste a few of their pennies calling their software output a pile of trash.

If one searches for something like "chart of degenerate flags" (the various sexuality flags), the Google AI thing may not even show, and refuse to provide an "answer" then.

Rather odd there.

Google's programmed it to not show up if you include a curse/slur/anything negative in your search. I'm pretty sure it wasn't always like that though, I remember being able to get it to say faggot after rewording my search a certain way.

Fun fact, if you actully pay for YT premium to get rid of ads, it resets your account back to when you bought it.

So if a streamer sets chat to one week subscribers , you bought prime yesterday, but have been subbed for years, get fucked idiot.

I have no idea how such an oversight could occur, and it is not a major deal, but when I have a three year membership badge, and can't chat because the streamer set chat at must be suscribed for 2 years, it's a slap in the face.

if I had a nickle for everytime it's happened, I'd only have 10 cents, but it's odd that it happened twice.

I thought that the AI "answers" thing would try to "lecture" the user. That's why it's odd (to me) that the AI just clams up instead.
Yeah that's what I thought would happen too, but I'm guessing Google is too afraid someone will screenshot the AI saying something negative about a certain group of people to share it around. They'd prefer to just disable the feature rather than risk it making them look bad and get people on their asses.

It's BS when any website does paysite BS. Like GoComics launching that BS where one needs subscribe to browse older comics, news sites only showing a sample of the article, Quora not allowing more than one tab open, YouTube doing that "Premium" BS, and other BSs. While this may sound "entitled" or "parasite" of me, all websites should be free.

If i go to Google and ask to see the Fag Flag, i get a sponsored link for a guide to pride flags.

Found out in a Reddit thread that one can use uBlock to block that AI "answers" from appearing by adding this code to custom filters.

Code:
! 2024-05-18 https://www.google.com Block A.I Search Results
www.google.com##.M8OgIe > div:nth-of-type(2) > div

However, even with those AI "answers" gone, Google can still put "answers" from sites like Quora at the top of search results anyway.

I'm happy that even the US government hates google as right now they are reaming out their asshole (apologies if it was posted earlier):
Imagine being such a shit and vile company you mange to get the attention of the morality bankrupt, corrupt US government that is currently acting like a banana republic. Good job retards.

Anyhow, the only place that seems to be carrying water for Google nowadays is Hacker News who does their best to either hide/censor threads shitting on Google or floods them with fake posts supporting Google. My schizo take is that Hacker News gets a lot of $$$ from Google to shut up and look the other way.

Ideally Google should be broken up into the following:
  • YouTube becomes it's own company
  • GSuite/Gmail/Google Cloud becomes it's own company
  • Android/Pixels/Chromebooks becomes it's own company
  • The actual Google search becomes it's own company (maybe with Maps/Google Earth/Translate)
  • Chrome becomes it's own company
  • The actual advertising part of Google gets destroyed (the new companies can run their own advertising)
  • etc.
