Does anyone else genuinely miss the 2010s? - It's very weird to say this since there were even more terrible things compared to it's predecessor but is the Early 2010s at least fairly memorable.

For me, it was a decade of almost getting married, to realizing age was not the one, to return to partying and waste a decade of my life.

It was fun.

I do miss the meme culture of the 2010s and 2012-2016 internet era of the internet. In that era, the internet was fast enough you could go anywhere in a short amount of time where it's no longer taking a eternity to load up anything and we had enough freedom on the internet where you had the meme war of 2016 and the internet was a legit fun place.

Nostalgia is a poison so I try not to be too fond of any one point in time. Personally I feel like things started getting more insane in the world starting sometime around 2013-14 because that's the most recent point in time when everyone young now first really got a bug up their ass about politics in the current unproductively shrill manner.

Another 2010s thing I don't miss: they were when that BS of almost every phone call being a robocall or scam call became a thing.

Because of that BS, I leave my phone off unless I'm expecting a call. And while waiting for one, I get scam call after scam call.

Nostalgia is a poison so I try not to be too fond of any one point in time.
Maybe it is to you, but I think nostalgia is only a poison when taken to excess.

I don't know what decade you can be nostalgic for. I lived through the early 2000's and they were pretty shit. The economy was shit then as well. Just now more people are feeling the impact. The 90's were garbage and I was a kid and in my early teens in the late 90's. The music was fucking awful in the 90's unless you like pop trash and shitty 90's club music. I remember during a brief period during the 90's disco had a small comeback. But then people started having gatherings where they would bring disco records and destroy them. The movies and TV shows were pretty good mostly. The 90's culture was trash though. But compared to today it's like the 1950's. Even the rock music was shit in the 90's. It's the decade where rap became popular.
The first half of the 2010s were a solid continuation of the 2000s in someways like the Internet was still kind of a Wild West, people still had decent senses of humor, IRL hangouts existed and dating was had much less baggage surrounding it. It was about 2014 that shit started going bad with Gamergate and a bunch of retarded drama (although you van say Benghazi and the Tea Party were warning shots of this, albeit much more serious in nature than gay Internet drama), but by 2016, things took a turn for the worse due to the election that year and we've been in hell ever since.

Some dude wanted to stop an Congolese warlord from using child soldiers in a decades long civil war. Caught on at first until the guy had a mental breakdown and was caught jerking off completely named in public while ranting about something. Haven't heard shit about it since.

I can understand where you are coming from but I kinda disagree. I think every facet of life has gotten noticiably worse post-COVID to the point that the 2020s are culturally distinct from the 2010s. People were initially optimistic during the 2010s' beginning and while it did taper off , it didn't quite hit the lows that COVID dealt the world and the biggest transfer of money to corporations and the lockdowns really just killed any sort of hope people had for the future in 2019.
They are punishing the population for electing Trump and not voting for Hillary like they told us to. They told us Trump was an evil fascist racist orange Hitler and we didn't listen. Matter of fact they are still punishing the population for electing Trump. That's one of the reasons why the prices for everything are so high and that includes gas. The fact that you can't watch anything or play a game without niggers faggots trannies or strong wahmens shoved in your face is also part of that punishment. It was bad pre-Trump but post Trump it's gotten 100x worse not that I blame Trump. We should be able to vote for who he want without this level of cultural punishment.
I’m crossing my fingers we get another He Will Not Divide us next election
I was kind of hoping the GOP primaries would playout like the 2016 primaries, but Trump never got a chance to Bully Desantis like he did Jeb!. I do believe we will get to see a melt down like what happened in 2016 when Trump wins in November.

i miss the technology and culture of the early to mid 2010s, before subscription services took over and you would be accused of being an istaphobe for having the wrong opinion, youtube hadnt sucked as much as it does now, tiktok didnt exist yet, but personally speaking i dont miss it because my life was a wreck back then and i heavily relied on escapism to ignore reality constantly

Like that "3D" (simulated depth perception) craze?

I don't think there's any tech crazes anymore -- like "multimedia" ('90s) or "3D" (early '10s) -- aside from that current "AI" craze.

I lived in a not-so-great apartment in the city in the 2010s, and the bus system wasn't that great either. I don't exactly miss that.

the 'you will own nothing' craze comes to mind, event hough only copros are excited about that, i also am not really excited about ai because censorship advocates smothered it in its infancy

Eh, not particularly.

I was certainly more content with the world in the first half of the 2010s than the shitshow it’s become since, but the 2010s really didn’t do much to evoke any real sense of nostalgia for me. The late 80s through the late 90s evoke my childhood/teenage nostalgia for a more simple, carefree life, while the 2000s were my college/young adult years that hold nostalgia for being the time in my life where I started gaining more independence, freedom and a clearer understanding of what and where I wanted to be in life.

The 2010s were for the most part just me being firmly established in my career, going through the motions and living a normal, boring but steady easygoing life. Nothing to really write home about.

I'm starting to miss how cheaper things were and the optimism of how things were looking from 2010 - 2013. granted I was a stupid teenager and overlooked many things.
Soon we will be reaching mid 2024, which is exactly a decade before the date I stop looking back too fondly, it's such an odd feeling.

Speaking as an eighties kid, I feel like if I had a time machine I would go back to any of the prior decades rather than the 2010s.

To me what says it all is that all my memories of the 2010s involve the internet. Not even joking--all my real-life friends wound up moving to different states or sometimes even different countries and real-life hobbies I used to have started sucking or becoming Not Possible for one reason or another... so a lot of my "fun time" was spent online. So primarily my memories are all internet related.

And I mean... that says it all. It was the decade of being internet addicted. It had no other value and I can't think of much reason I would want to revisit it if I had a time machine. Hell I almost want a do-over of it so I can have a more productive life.

If you're a conservative Christian who doesn't recognize gay marriage, you may have noticed that the 2010s were when a number of Western nations legally recognized it.

2020 is the direct result of degeneracy of 2010s, so no. I don't miss 2010. 2010 turned out the way it did because we as society refused to pay the cost of reckless market manipulation and a decade long QE to bailout big banks. Low interest rate made things too easy for everyone and created an economy based on degeneracy like YouTubers, big tech, social media, influencer, crypto, and yes, onlyfans.

I do miss 1990s and maybe even early 2000s.

Things were genuinely good in 1990s. You could lose everything, start over, and still have a house over your head by the time you retire. Dotcom bubble, although it was fucking crazy, did create some fundamental infrastructure for internet things to come.

Our economy wasn't as bloat as they are today and people still cared about fiscal discipline and holding government accountable at the expense of their own personal benefit.

Now it's free for all.
