I'm giving him the same benefit of doubt as any other person who rapes. Very few rapists actually identify what they do as rape, which is understandable because it'd be hard to live with yourself while thinking of yourself as a rapist. If you phrase it like "have you ever had sex with a woman who didn't want to but you were able to overpower her and make her do it," they may say yes, and they're fine with that, but to them, rape is the magic word that makes it bad I guess. There was a study done on a college campus where a lot of guys said they'd force themselves on a woman if they knew there wouldn't be any consequences for it, but apparently didn't realize that that's what rape is, because they denied entertaining the idea if the word rape was used instead. And that's not getting into the the widespread use of self-justifying cliches like saying she clearly wanted it, she didn't say no (even though she looked terrified the whole time) therefore it couldn't be rape or whatever.

It'd be kinda shocking if Chris knew that he was guilty of rape. Even ignoring his borderline psychosis, if he did actually know that he raped her, that would make him more self-aware and cozignant than the vast majority of people guilty of this crime.
