I'm thinking Staffordshire/Jack Russel mix. The short body disqualifies Bassets as their bodies are quite long. Only thing throwing me off is the eye shape.
Thats what I was thinking, every pitbull Ive seen has had the most beady eyes but my dog's eyes are surprisingly lively
Also I might have imagined how short her legs were but I managed to get a low angle shot without her poking her face into the lens
I think you are onto something. The only reason I'd hesitate is that true staffies in the US are rather rare. Many people might say a dog is a "staffie" but typically they aren't. But, I have to admit, the morphology fits. However, that could just be a homologous coincidence due to cross of two breeds producing similar features to a staffie.
The temperament also is similar to a staffie. They are protectors of their people/territory, but not the best at actually fighting. They tend to be generally very friendly dogs, and not particularly cat friendly.
I'm no expert, but it looks like a red brindle pitbull, or other kind of bull terrier.
Contrary to popular belief, so long as its properly trained, socialized, supervised, and not inbred to hell and back, it's actually quite a nice dog to own.
