DOOM

I have mixed feelings about that wrist blade its cool and all but I always felt that the best way to rip and tear is with your bare hands. I also love the UAC propaganda, the pro demon agenda as the earth is eaten by hell is great.

I literally squeed over the stuff I saw. Here have a giant fucking wall of my fanboying.

The fucking BFG 10,000, the whole entrance bit on Phobos with everyone just backstepping out of the Slayer's way with "Oh god it's him", the skinny white worker going "What, why do we have to open the lockdown?!" then turning and going stiff and straight in his chair like a literal board of wood when he got close, how Doomguy just slowly pulls the red keycard to the scanner while it's around his neck as he looks like he's about to cry. The heavily armed and armored soldiers acting tough and then immediately backing up when they realize who they're talking to, and just letting him take their fucking gun. You could see it. Even though he had a helmet on you could see the one soldier back up, tense up, and lean backwards as Doomguy got right in his face. Underneath that helmet of his was a pants shitting look of terror as he just presented his gun to him in hopes it would make him go away faster.

Then he gets on the elevator and it just gets better from there. That Phobos trailer did fucking good. A slow, casual start to hype up Doomguy, then just balls in killing demons. Everything looks great. Then the Arch Vile shows up and he fucking pulls out THE ARTIFACT THAT TURNS INTO A SWORD!

Then we have the city. Now, granted the controller thing was kinda eh. I played Doom 2016 on the PS4 and still play it occasionally for funsies. And while I wouldn't say I'm the best, I'm pretty fucking good at using a controller with it(then again I'm pretty fucking good at playing Hollow Knight with a mouse and keyboard and shit at playing it with a controller, so maybe I'm a weird duck). So I have no doubts I'll still have fun when I get Doom Eternal on the PS4.

But god, the city. I loved it. The grapples, the dashes, the quick gameplay, the mayhem. I also loved the aesthetics though. Seeing him jump over that bus, the stores that were locked down and empty, the collapsing and decrepit buildings that made up the area. And just how overrun it was. How infested it was. Earth is FUCKED in Doom Eternal and it looks amazing. And the jokes. "Demon is an offensive term. The correct term is mortally challenged", and all the holograms talking about "shit's okay, stay calm". I love that they're keeping with the cult-like mentality of the UAC from the first game. But even more, I love that they're trying to add lore to it. I know, I know, lore in a Doom game. But I like that. In Doom 3 I fucking loved collecting the PDAs and checking out the various text and voice entries of various UAC employees who were no doubt already dead. I especially loved hearing the audio logs from employees who talked about the freaky shit going on in deeper parts of the facility while working. It really helped set the atmosphere for it. I loved collecting data entries in Doom 2016 because it also helped set the atmosphere, establish the setting, and with Doom 2016 being far more hammy with its evil than Doom 3, some of them gave me a good chuckle. So don't even get me started with them talking about establishing a Doom UNIVERSE with this next game.

The last time we got a Doom game on Earth was part of the classics iirc. Much of them though? Space and Hell. Doom 3? Mars and Hell. Doom 2016? Mars and Hell. The fact that we actually get the classic pathing of being able to visit a Hell overrun Earth, PHOBOS(fingers fucking crossed Deimos is in too), and whatever the fuck else they were teasing us with at Quakecon, I am so happy we'll get to explore more than just one or two main locations.

I reiterate what I said to my monitor yesterday: Please, I can only get so erect.

Oh, one thing that didn't make it into my fanboy rant:

I love the zombified soldiers design-wise, mainly that they actually look human and zombified. I liked the whole Z-Sec gimmick in Doom 3, and I like the idea of them still looking freshly human, so it's nice that they're going with that to change things up a bit.

I am dying for a way to play Classic Doom on my PS4 there has to be a way.

I still load up GZDoom from time to time. Used to play Brutal DooM with my buddy before he committed suicide. Still load up AEONS of Death from time to time.

I liked the way the Z-sec used different weapons and models for each weapon type. Having every zombie marine as the same crewcut guy like original Doom seems a little weird with modern graphics so I hope to see them mix it up a little in that regard. Not like that will really bother me if they don't.

I wonder how many people got offended at that "mortally challenged" joke..
A decent amount.

Same boat here. I won't mind if it's all the same, but that IS what I loved about Z-Sec. Actually, I don't recall seeing chaingun zombies in any of the footage. I wonder if they're in.

A decent amount.

It's a joke, fuck these fools. God I hope this doesn't turn into some crusade to dummy offensive dialogue out of the game.

wait what, I thought they would have loved that "yay, inclusive language, see we are making changes in the industry"

is this "heaven" or "ultra hell"??

Yeah, a lot of that honestly looked dope as fuck in the footage. One thing I like is the idea of there being different themes to Hell, honestly. Doom 3 and Doom 2016 always had it be lava and darkness and shit, but here's a different take: Doom 64's secret level The Void. Bright, blue, somber, and it basically involves a floating series of platforms over a void of nothingness.

If there's different 'layers', no pun intended, to this one's adventure through Hell, each getting more fucking weird and metal than the last, I'll be so happy.

Also note that that's the same figure that was in the uh...lemme find it:

No, nevermind, they look different. Here:

Isn't the joke that megacorporations utilize "socially aware" language and policies only because they believe it will benefit them or as damage control for events they caused. Now the actual joke, flying far above the heads of these humorless killjoys and anime furry tranny scolds is that the UAC is now doing PR for a demon invasion THEY are responsible for.

Some of the multiplayer maps in Doom 2016 had more varied enviroments compared to the singleplayer campaign, and they kinda look like the ones shown in the reveal.

Me thinks that id really wanted to do more varied stuff from the beginning.
