Doom has always been a simple concept: kill demons and fuck shit up. There is no deeper meaning, that was never the point. The game epitomizes John Carmack's philosophy of story in a video game being like story in a porno. It's only there to contextualize why you're murdering demons on Mars, but even the game knows you don't care about that. The 2016 game even seems like a satire of this, providing a pretty intricate lore and story only to have it be completely ignored by Doomguy who only wants to kill hellspawn.
People like Clawshrimpy trying to add a deeper meaning to a series that's almost always been flagrantly anti-story is hilarious to me since it demonstrates a fundamental lack of understanding of the games. Even Doom 3, the most story-intensive game in the series, is still a simple sci-fi horror story at the end of the day. I can't wait for Eternal to come out and be totally devoid of deeper political meaning like literally every game before it and yet people will still try to make it about immigration or Trump or some stupid shit like that.
