DOOM

Yeah, you can also see gameplay weapons on the Night Sentinel, but at least I can understand it since its not worth to make new guns for a single cutscene.

I spent literal HOURS doing the boss fight
Yeah its basically a giant marauder, but thing is: I suck at the marauder. In fact I had to put the dificulty on normal for both dlc ends. I finished the base game on nightmare on console (since my pc at the time didnt run the game) and on pc, but couldnt finish either dlc.

In fact, I think im gonna play both 2016 and Eternal on normal because, who Im trying to impress? If I had the willpower to get good, a non fucked spine and not my cursed ADHD, I would try ultra nightmare someday.

I think I'll stick with UV for both. The problem with difficulty on both is there's no in-between setting for UV and Nightmare. UV on 2016 is pretty much a cakewalk all thing considered, Eternal even more thanks to the Extra Lives system. But Nightmare is just annoying. Imps 1 hit you, armor becomes useless, the chain gun even more so.

Another factor is how hard you're allowed to push the gameplay systems in either game. In 2016 on nightmare you can still pretty much dick around with how you play outside of imps sniping you every 3 seconds, but in Eternal you better not DARE go outside of the intended uses for everything or you get punished hard on NM. UV at least lets me play somewhat outside of the games intended uses for everything. I'm allowed to sneak in a useless chainsaw on a pinky or caco every now and then just to see the animation. Of course though, now you have the issue of Extra Lives removing all difficulty. I COULD just refuse to pick them up, but the game goes out of its way to not have a way to remove them or even limit them at all.

Those are apparently supposed to be the elite soldiers of hell. Personal guards of the dark lord. Infused with hell energy daily to retain their human form, all so they can be total ammo pinatas and quite possibly the weakest hostile mobs in the entire game.
I liked those guys because I didn't need to worry about using the chainsaw or hammer when they were around. It sucks all of their enemies that give back ammo were stuck until very late game.

Yeah, I dont see why people say "its a game for ADHD", if anything having ADHD makes me worse at the game since I cant focus on what combo to use for a boss or the occasional marauder. I will never one cycle them

New video on Doom: The Dark Ages. It has Cthulhu.

Sandy Peterson helped design the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG back in the 80s. He also help make the original Doom games in the 90s.
Just give me Quake at this point. Jesus. I just want to shoot shit and watch it explode while moving fast. Not parry, not waddle around stunning bullshit grids, not focus on alternating between light and heavy attacks. Point at abomination, pull trigger, enjoy shower of blood and gibs. 2016 really is the best nuDoom.

It is honestly a shame that after all these years, nobody has managed to create a mod yet, that turns GZDoom into an RPG in the style of Legend of Grimrock / Lands of Lore / Eye of the Beholder (mouse controls). Imagine the possibilities. It would be piss easy to make block-based maps and write adventures for them. If that had been a thing by now, a Kiwifarms RPG adventure based on such a mod would have been a possibility.

But sadly, all we have is a bunch "kill monsters to level up" - mods.

(:_(

I would kill someone for an X-COM combat like mod, but that would be helll to code. Not just for turn based combat, but trying to not make physics shit itself in turn based stuff

I would adore such a mod, just 4 or more kinda shitty marines trying not to shit their pants under your orders

Someone actually tried to make a mod like that. And the source code and files are gone.

Anyways, 2016 is still Kino

It’s really not.
Doomguy actually looks like Doomguy in Eternal, you can wear the classic armor to make him REALLY look like Doomguy and the weapons look and function much better.
Doomguy looks stupid in 2016.

I’m looking forward to Dark Ages playing more like a traditional FPS game than 2016 OR Eternal’s super fast twitchy combat. I didn’t like that I always have to be moving in the old games so I’m curious to see what this style will feel like.
Also, old Glory Kills are still there apparently. You just have to jump on the enemy.

You are a fucking retard.

Doom is fucking dead and Eternal was the last nail in the coffin. And DA plays nothing like "traditional fps games", what the fuck are you smoking? Ang glory kills suck ass.

Ok done Sigil 2, gotta say it was rough. Its not bad design, of course isnt, but Romero really wants to make you miserable, I stopped trying to kill all enemies already on the second map, and it seem to be a reverse Plutonia where the maps are balanced counting in you getting all secrets.

I liked the secret map and map 4 that followed, they seem closer to what Sigil 1 did. It is funny that despite adding the buffed Spidermind and all, you can finish the last map without killing it or the Cyberdemons.

Well, at least Helion will have the super shotgun so I wont need to spend 5 shots to every cacodemon.

Kinda funny how both doom and wolfenstein had a similar result

Good original and sequel (doom 1 and 2, 3d and Rtcw), a boring id4 mess that killed the franchise (3 and 2009) and reboots that distanced so much from the past one that now look like entirely different series

Well, wads will always be there

On the plus side, at least Doom 64 got a port and exposure. I always thought it was just a N64 port of Doom, not that it was its own standalone game with different spritework and weapon changes.

The objectively best Wolfenstein game is Rise of the Triad, which itself got a pretty mid 2000s reboot and a relatively recent port that is probably the best way to experience the game in modern times.

Again, seem it was lack of budget, which is a shame. If you ask me, they should had delayed it, rather wait longer than getting a clearly unfinished dlc.
The second DLC legally had to be out by the 1-year anniversary of the base game to honour the season pass. It was a mix of budget, time constraints, and ID working from home during the lockdowns. I remember Hugo saying they wanted to do more with the dark lord in one of the developer commentary livestreams.

I recently started on it after running the gauntlet of old FPS (D1, D2, Heretic, Hexen) and despite absolutely loving it when I was a kid, I tapped out half-way through Episode 3.
The level designs really are monotonous, and the enemies are spongy without rockets. After a while it just started to feel like a chore to play.
That being said, I still enjoy playing through Wolf3D once every few years on the couch with a gamepad.
