I presume they mean its like gears of war and halo? I think people forget that a lot of good shit was on there with well formulated gameplay. But it quickly became a sort of "standard" akin to how doom clones were a thing, and people thought it was bad?

Least thats my guess.

And then they assassinated his character in Eternal. So in truth we never met again, really.

What a waste. Anyways, 2016 is still Kino, but that much was already known.
Retconning Hayden into space Jesus was one of the worst things they did with Eternal. He works very well as the straight man to doomguys shenanigans, some of that even still shines through in eternal when you first meet him again, but it’s immediately screwed over by him knowing WAY too much about how hell and heaven works to a degree that couldn’t make him anything other that extremely suspicious.

Then of course the dlc reveals that he’s space Jesus in disguise as a human but also faked having brain cancer so he could be a robot who also wants to be a squid man. It’s so retarded.

I think what really aggravates me in the context of TAG1 is that the whole first mission is based on finding Samuels old body which HE SURELY HAS TO KNOW FOR A FACT will wither and die because its outside of the influence of the Father. Which makes the entire first mission redundant since if he'd just stayed in his old body he'd be alive. This is also Samuel we're talking about, who demonstrated several times in 2016 that he had backup plans incase the Slayer went against his plans like using the Tether system. Just stupidity all around.

Doom 2 RPG is complete cinema.

I do like the reload animation on the Dark Ages shotgun, reminds me of the one Marathon I liked

Being honest I also dont like the Father being retconned randomly in TAG 2, the story until there was good enough. I really like Eternal, but its mostly for the gameplay
It was already going down the "what if le religion was actually alienos?" path with Doom Eternal and basically said "no one gets a heaven, everyone burns in hell, fuck you" which I don't need to tell you why that's stupid. TAG1 sort of tried to backtrack a little bit with adding more traditional elements to the Maykrs backstory. TAG2 then spent its entirety retconning the lore for the last DLC just because? It also does the stupidest thing the series did yet: you know all those hours you spent killing demons, well, they aren't really demons, they're just aliens with a different name. That was the moment I refused to acknowledge any game before Doom 2016 taking place within its canon. It retroactively ruins the entire series by that point

Overexplaining the cosmology via the Hayden/Samael twist was doubly shit, it removed mystery from the Doom world and replaced it with shitty lore that contradicts itself between 2016, Eternal and the DLCs, and it also knocks humanity down a peg: harvesting Hell for clean energy? Gigachad 8-foot tall robot transhumanism? Plans within plans? Nah, no human could do something that cool and stupid, we're not elevated by our strengths or laid low by our hubris, it's ancient ayylmaos pulling all the strings.

Oh, and for all the hate Hayden being an ayyyngel gets, VEGA being literally god (until that also got rectconned in DLC2) is even more stupid. Just let Doomguy have an AI buddy that he saved.

Being honest considering they can manipulate souls and stuff, I dont think its a case of "these are aliens" and more like "these are supernatural creatures, that also got physical bodies"

The problem is pointless changes mid campaign, we know from the developter coments that the development was a mess, the reason Tag 2 is so weird is in part because they ran out of budget and I guess Bethesda didnt wanted to move money from the production of Starfield and Oblivion Remaster

Now I guess Dark Ages will be at least more complete? Doom is pretty much the only Bethesda released IP in the last 10 years that is mostly well beloved, they gotta be really retards to again not give enough budget

Was there ever an explanation in TAG2 why a random military base on earth in the middle of a random city contains a teleporter that goes straight to the uber secret ancient techno city in Hell where the denizens are just normal looking guys who wear modern armor and fight with assault rifles?

I also love the fact that ID must have known that the player opinion on the marauders was polarized at best, and they still decide to make SATAN - the big man himself - just a bigger marauder. One you also continuously make dizzy in an incredibly unfitting cartoony fashion where the only thing missing is having tweety bird spinning around his head..

That was budget, same reason he uses the mecha armor. They had low budget and decided "fuck it, lets just copy and paste the marauder code"

I think im gonna skip some of the challenges on 2016 and Eternal, since I already got the achivements for it, and I lack the motivation to trully improve on these games, being the only person in the planet who suffers with the Icon of Sin and the Dark Lord.

Gonna do Sigil 2 after finishing these 2.

New video on Doom: The Dark Ages. It has Cthulhu.

Sandy Peterson helped design the Call of Cthulhu TTRPG back in the 80s. He also help make the original Doom games in the 90s.
While I'm divided on how this looks, and including Lovecraftian monsters in a game where you play as an invincible retard is kind of missing the point, I will say that I appreciate that this isn't just pure memberberries with the designs like Eternal was. Nearly everything in Eternal was made to look more like it did in old Doom and while I appreciate the callback and reverence for the original games, it felt extremely derivative. The weapons and enemies in this all have weird designs and I like that.

Probably won't get this right away but I might check it out down the line if the reviews are good.
What this even mean?
The checks didn't clear?

Those are apparently supposed to be the elite soldiers of hell. Personal guards of the dark lord. Infused with hell energy daily to retain their human form, all so they can be total ammo pinatas and quite possibly the weakest hostile mobs in the entire game.

I'm starting to think those concerns of slow gameplay from the demo may be more on the money than I had hoped for.

Now that I re-downloaded Eternal, I remembed I never tried the Master Levels. Being honest, if I struggle as fuck to the second Escalation in Reclaimed Earth, no way im finishing these.

I just lack the willpower to keep trying until I get good, pretty much the hardest fps stuff I did was Postal 2 on Postal, and even them I had a guide for it. That and Legacy of Rust I guess, but save scumming mean I didnt took the entire challenge.

all so they can be total ammo pinatas and quite possibly the weakest hostile mobs in the entire game.
Again, seem it was lack of budget, which is a shame. If you ask me, they should had delayed it, rather wait longer than getting a clearly unfinished dlc.

I hate to use this thread as tech support, but you guys are (usually) pretty smart with tech so I figured I ask here. You think I'd be able to get TDA running with a intel i7 9700k? Minimum system recs lists a 10700k, but everything else in my computer is about a step or two above minimum recommended specs. I'm fine with playing at low settings since that's how I played Eternal back in 2020 (can you believe its been 5 years????)

The complete lack of new enemy models outside of a few exceptions was a dead giveaway to me that it was rushed. Fun fact about those human enemies in Immora, they actually reused content from 2016's multiplayer, there's not a single thing about them that's original. I still remember playing the DLC day one and just being incredibly disappointed, I spent literal HOURS doing the boss fight and then the ending was incredibly underwhelming and left so many unanswered questions.

Also, this just occurred to me: wtf was even the point of the "ancient gods" name? Why did they attribute the name of the DLC to the most useless characters introduced at the last minute?
