DOOM

My first experience with Doom was in the late 90's. Playing it briefly at a friend's house. I didn't have a PC back then. My friends father was always messing around with computers and he had pirated copies of all the old DOS games like Doom Duke 3D Wolf 3D Jazz Jackrabbit and Commander Keen. I didn't play it much till I got my first computer around 2000. It was an older computer so all I could play was older games. So that meant Doom Wolf 3D and Duke 3D.

I got a physical copy of Doom 1 Doom 2 and Final Doom. I bought it in Walmart back when Doom 3 was about to get released. I have all the older Doom games on Steam. I just play them using GZ Doom. I don't like the Bethesda rereleases. They pretty much suck. With GZ Doom I get a ton of options and I can use mouse look.

Doom 2016 was great and Eternal is just as good. The only Doom I didn't care for was Doom 3. It's ok but I don't like it that much. I would rather just play Doom 2016 or Eternal.
Doom 3 isn't canon anyway, it's a different main character entirely.

I have no idea. I just know that I didn't like it much. It's not a bad game. I just didn't care for it. I remember buying an Xbox just so I could play Doom 3 and Half Life 2 because back then it was a cheaper option than a PC capable of playing games well. I only finished Half Life 2.

I kinda liked Doom 3, but just not as much OG Doom, Doom II or Doom 2016.
Doom 3 would have been better suited as a spinoff. They were on to something with the creepy atmosphere of the first half, but they couldn't really commit to it because there was the reasonable expectation that there would be Doom style running and gunning, which itself didn't work as well when hobbled by slow movement and reloading. It felt like two separate approaches were clashing with each other.

Yea, at least Doom 1, 2, 2016 and Eternal followed the more scary factor, and even accompanied themselves with metal-esque soundtrack at times when necessary. Doom 3 does feel more like a standalone spinoff rather than an actual continuity game.

Doom 64 was the real Doom 3

I'm honestly worried about nu-Doom 3. There's no way it can be better than Eternal.

It could go either ways
They're going to be very tempted to double down on making it a "bigger" game, (see Eternal vs 2016), and I worry they'll overdo it. That and the state of the lore after AG1&AG2 makes it precarious.

Honestly they'll probably just retcon it all with little to no explanation and I will be 100% fine with that.

doom 1 and 2 would be better if the levels werent mazes where you get bored as you hunt for keycards after clearing out the demons

brutal doom is great when you face off against a room of pinkies and other shitheads and eventually go postal with a chaingun

I cannot imagine anyone would be upset over lore in a fucking Doom game of all thing.
I might. Sure, Doom is mainly about the gameplay, but the lore definitely adds a level of immersion that really gives you that "I am a totally overpowered badass" feeling.

I think it'd be Doom 6 (Doom, Doom II, Doom 64, Doom 2016, Doom Eternal)
I'm going to trust Hugo Martin to not screw it up, but I think they might have some idea of what they want to do. I think id is doing something else before they make the next Doom, so they'll probably take their time to make something good. They have plenty of options, like the Wraiths and the almost completely unexplained Ancient Gods. What worries me most is the music. I haven't heard anybody make Doom-style music as good as Mick Gordon; there was a noticeable drop in the music's quality with the TAG DLCs, not that they were bad, but they felt like a cheap imitation of Gordon's work. I've looked around at plenty of other musicians trying to emulate Gordon's Doom style, but nobody's really managed to capture it the same way.

The best solution would be to not try to imitate Mick Gordon and instead do what classic Doom did and just blatantly rip off as many Bay Area thrash metal bands as they can. Mick Gordon had a nice take on it but his grungy industrial electronica does not have to define modern Doom. NuDoom is supposed to be a throwback, why not let the soundtrack reflect it?

I kinda enjoyed Mick Gordon's more Cannibal Corpse/Slayer/Pantera sounding aesthetic.

Oh fuck, I completely forgot about Mick
