DOOM

I really don't want a prequel, I don't know how they can go bigger for a sequel, and I doubt they can make a soundtrack as good as Mick Gordon's work now, either way.

It's entirely possible Doom Year Zero was scrapped entirely, and there's a good chance the same is true for Dishonored 3, especially with the studio head having left.

I don't mind a prequel. I really liked Eternal and 2016 but I just want to see a game where Hell descends on Earth and you see cities and suburban neighborhoods raised to the ground.

THIS IS WHAT I WANT TO FUCKING SEE IN A GOD DAMN DOOM GAME. EVEN IF IT'S JUST ONE LEVEL I WOULD BE SATISFIED.

I want to see Imps fucking stomp a playground and eat kindergarteners alive, I want to see prisons ripped open and Mancubus' torch waves of niggers, I want to see a million+ Barons of Hell storming the White House and the Senate and raping to death all of the politicians and lobbyists, I want to see Cyber Demons shooting down commercial planes and fighter jets, I want to see the populace turned into mindless zombie pawns of Hell and overwhelm SWAT teams and the National Guard, I want to see motherfucking Pinkies storming press conferences and devouring alive the president, I want to see the Earth itself splitting open revealing Archvilles that resurrect the Nazi army and annihilate stadiums full of people, I want to see fucking Pain Elementals descend on California and unleash Lost Souls that rip apart celebrities and Youtubers alike, I want to see Revenants take prisoners of war and play wishbone and use the carcass as a baseball bat, I want to see Chain Gun Commandos shoot up all the major cities, I want to see Cacodemons bite off the heads of humans then chew it up and spit it back out in defiance, I WANT TO SEE A FUCKING SPIDERMASTERMIND STOMPING AROUND A SUBURBAN NEIGHBORHOOD AND CRUSHING PEOPLE TO DEATH WHILE READING THEIR MINDS WITH IT'S PSYCHIC POWERS JUST LIKE IN THE FUCKING DOOM NOVELS AND THE MASTERMIND GIVES BIRTH TO HORDES OF ARACHNOTRONS THAT FURTHER LAY WASTE TO THE SURVING HUMANS REMAINING. And I want to be the god damn Doom Guy and fight against the chaos.

DO. YOU. FUCKERS. UNDER. FUCKING. STAND. ME?!?!

The shooting is weak in it, but overall I loved it. Much more than the goyslop bullshit of the newer ones.
Yea that was pretty much the worst part of the game, but I still enjoyed it. I'd say I enjoyed 2016 and Eternal

Doom 3 love? What is this madness?
Less of a madness and more of an actual respect for daring to go the different road and offer something new to the franchise.
Despite shotgun being Moxim's chink cheap-ass knock off and some of the game areas are darker than black aunt's rectum - I saw no other issue.
Oh wait, I forgot about trites and ticks. fucking spooder-fiends, I swear to fucking Baal.

It's different for the franchise but at the end of the day it's just a typical horror game with the Doom name slapped on it. That's why I don't care for it. I don't like being scared, I like to be scary, like Doomguy or the Flying Dutchman.

I'm currently playing thorugh Doom 64 CE. I tried playing the Bethesda release but it felt clunky as all hell.

I don't really like the original ost so I'm glad you can pick the pc ost instead. Turned the game from boring and depressing to exciting and intense.

I hated (in a loving way) Even Simpler and everything that came afterwards. Mother of god. Granted I'm playing it on Watch Me Die difficulty, but goddamn if I didn't have to save scum.

Absolutely adored playing doom 3 for the first time on VR. If anything that felt like the real prequel for the doom guy.

Great designs, brutal kills and gore, terrifying atmosphere. I dont know how it feels in regular mode, but It was freaking great when your in the zone and they are coming out at you.

Lore wise and story wise it was fantastic. DIRT SIMPLE, but done very well. The environmental design was so well done I actually was interested in what the world and station looked like without the demons. The way they detailed the first contact via the logs was genius and underrated.

I dont really care where the next game is timeline or lore wise, it just needs to go back to the environmental storytelling of 2016 and combine it with the NPC interactions and detailed setting of 3

or a shitty Hollywood celebrity who travel to Epstein's island

DOOM 3's main issue is the same issue 2016 and Eternal have: no community-created content. Like, I don't think a lot of people really replay the classic campaigns -that- often, maybe every now and then for nostalgia's sake. And that's true for 3, 2016, and Eternal: you beat them once on the top difficulty (barring 3, whose nightmare mode is... weird), then you take a break and maybe return to them in 5 or 6 years or something. The content is always the same, never changes, so you need to forget before you go back to it. Even if they released level creation tools, with just how complex the engines are compared to classic, I don't think there'd be anywhere near the amount of content.

DOOM 3 is just such an interesting item, though. The engine was light-years ahead of its time, and it's just capable of so much more than the game's actual level design and enemy encounters took advantage of. You could remake the game with the same engine, take advantage of modern awareness of engaging level design and better verisimilitude (less dead-end hallways that were clearly just monster closets), and have a real banger on your hands. You might want to hire more than 3 voice actors, though - that's the most jarring thing about that game when you go back and play it.

You'd think id Software (and to a lesser extent Bethesda) would learn their mistakes after 3, but they didn't by 2016 and Eternal

They did try a shade of that with Snapmap, which was supposed to be their answer to Halo's forge system. The problem is, it was tied to their multiplayer system and not designed to make single player content.

One of the biggest problems with NuDoom is their inability to accept the reality that multiplayer will be worth the investment and will only take development resources that could be better served improving support for user generated content. People do not buy Doom for multiplayer, plain and simple; nonetheless id insisted on having a whole multiplayer mode for Doom 2016 so extensive you had to boot it up separately, and a different multiplayer mode for Eternal which to its credit was better thought out and integrated but ultimately came no closer to keeping players engaged than its predecessor.

I really hate this shit where they try to make everything multiplayer.
2 was already creatively bankrupt but they gotta fall back on a title they know will sell after redfall.
I think on the whole, 2 was mechanically good - it expanded the powers and made it so that missions weren't just blink from one rooftop to the next. No powers pacifist runs demanded quite a bit of creativity, while balls out frontal assaults were just so much fun with all the new toys they gave - summon rat and fly swarms and let that just mow everything down.

The story sucked tho, and I don't like the overall look of the game. I think it's got something to do with the lighting and texture work.
Oh, and the last petty thing that pisses me off about Eternal, that I loved in 2016? Samuel Hayden. Turns out Sam wasn't just a smart transhumanist douchebag who built himself a hella cool robot body, they retconned him into being an ancient-alien angel-turned-human-turned-cyborg from spooky eeeevil Heaven! How delightfully edgy.
There really is something to be said about brevity. Doom 2016 painted a world that was rather minimal but very interesting. The whole lore expansion was just bullshit.

New DooM's story isn't for me.
I prefer being a random-ass Marine with a chainsaw and a shotgun than a demigod warrior superman.
I preferred the story being short and simple, "you're on Mars, your buddies are dead, get outta here alive". It was simplistic and worked well enough.

I'm not against the newer games or anything, I think the lore in 2016 was pretty badass because it was a continuation of '93 ,II & 64.
But I think Eternal added in too much for it's own good.

The artstyle is weird, its still got cartoon people but the environment is realistic looking, especially metal/glass. The museum level looking down on the tree/rail station is very good looking but its inconsistent, the rails are shiny and metalic when should be grey with water color smears for a texture. I didnt pick up on this for a while so maybe it was the right choice?

Eternal overstayed its welcome in terms of story, but I still had a lot of fun gamplay wise. Still, 2016 was better
I thought Eternal was pretty good gameplay-wise, though I think 2016 was better in most aspects (designs, atmosphere, lore).
Both games are fun.
Though nothing will beat the OG games for me.

The thing is, there were attempts. Many of them, in fact.

I don't know what happened to them, but there were ongoing projects to completely remake Doom and Doom II using Doom 3. I remember playing the beta of one such project, it consisted of basically the entirety of Knee Deep in the Dead. There were even multiplayer mods that added tons of Doom 3-ified weapons from Quake and Quake 2. All of it just seemingly disappeared though at some point. I assume some were lost when Bethesda acquired the license, but others were likely destroyed by the remorseless march of time.

Either way it never had support as robust as the original though there were honest attempts made. I think a lot of it has to do with how fucking powerful Doom 3's engine was at the time; the best common commercial rigs currently out on the market couldn't even run Doom 3 at max settings.

I would have much rather seen Doom be about Earth or just Hell than that boring Mars base shit.

That's pretty much what I just said. I really liked the gameplay for Eternal, yet 2016 is still better. Doom 1, 2 & 64 are still tied amongst the best Doom has to offer, while 3 was underrated.
