DOOM

He thinks they’re turning it into Ass Creed by adding climbing and grappling. He knows that plenty of similar shit was in Wolf TNO and it played fine. Hell, I’d reckon the climbing CAME from Wolf: TNO
That's a dumb comparison. The climbing and grappling are logical gameplay expansions considering the new emphasis on platforming and stage navigation from the previous game.

He thinks platforming and climbing is “too slow”. In this guy’s reeeeetarded world doom should just be an infinite stream of WADs.

I mean shiet, even the epitome of “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, the Monster Hunter games adding things like climbing, grapple hooks, and additional weapon classes to later games in order to make shit more interesting.

Did he even watch the fucking footage? The climbing is way faster than any Ass Creed game and the swinging is basically a second long.

Jesus Christ some people are stupid.

I bought and refunded 2016 when the last sale was on because someone said to wait for the quakecon sale, and man they were right. They knocked it down to $9~ this sale when it was $19~ last, and I was able to just sell a fuckton of cards to get it with steambux instead of real money which is a major plus to me.

He did like Doom 4, but even in the Mauler podcast he still called it “awful”.

Then again, this is the same galaxy brain who called Arthur of RDR2 a shitty character who’ll just be a glorified Bioware/Bethesda custom character back in August of 2018 when all we had to go off of was 10 minutes of footage where Arthur had a few character choices. Only for the “final” game to reveal that low-honor Arthur and high-honor Arthur are actually two completely distinct characters with separate cutscenes (both major and minor) and separate character interactions

I bit the bullet and bought Doom 3 on Switch. It's kind of an impressive port. The game looks decent and it runs at 60 fps. It does stutter occasionally, but it's not a major issue. Controls are a bit clunky as you would expect from porting a PC shooter to console, but you can work with it, especially when you get the shotgun and machine gun. Not a fan of crouching being mapped to clicking the right stick though, and you can't rebind the controls. That said, one of the more interesting decisions was to map 4 special weapons to the C buttons; the right button is your fist but I'm not sure what the rest are (I'm guessing chainsaw, BFG, and soul cube though). I like that since it means you won't have to be scrolling through every weapon. Load times are a bit long, but that seems to be a problem that will never go away for Doom 3.

The Bethesda account bullshit is present though. All you have to do is put in your email address if you don't have an account, which is insanely stupid but once that's done with you won't have to worry about it.

I like the port so far though. Doom 3 doesn't run optimally on my laptop, so it's nice to play a version with a more stable framerate.

Another double post.

A live gameplay demonstration of Eternal's campaign has been released on YouTube. A lot of love is being poured into this one.

Listening to a more detailed explanation of the 1-up mechanic, I like the concept but just wish it were presented in a more “cohesive” way instead of obviously being a game construct. Really it’s a small autistic nitpick, I just like my games as “realistic” as the mechanics allow, and all that requires here is renaming 1-up to “emergency kit” or something along those lines.

That seems to be a thing the game is going for overall, especially since secrets and weapons are no longer naturally in the environment but rather huge, floating objects that are easy to spot.

Eternal strikes me as a game that proclaims very loudly that it's a video game and that it's not trying to be immersive, even more so than what Doom 2016 did. Your mileage may vary on how effective that is, but as someone who isn't terribly interested in a lot of modern games, I welcome it.

Aren’t Eternal’s 1ups basically gold orbs from DMC or bottle fairies in Zelda?

One thing that struck me about this demonstration was that I assumed all the previous demos were from different levels, like you know, the Phobos base, the weird void area with the giant red barrels, and the Mars-Hell area. But no, it was all one giant level, and that's what got me excited, since it means we've only seen one piece of the game outside of the very brief glimpses of other areas from the story trailer. They also mentioned that levels will follow a 3 act structure of sorts, which means the levels will be bigger and more intense than the ones from 2016.

I had a PlayStation gift card balance I'd forgotten about, so I threw $5 at the PS4 port of Doom 1. I'm still waiting for the patch to drop. I don't think you can even attempt an account signup anymore without an error message.

Meanwhile, my gzdoom started doing a weird thing where the monsters are incredibly fast and frenzied. I checked and the 'Fast Monsters' option was still turned off. I literally messed with nothing to have this suddenly happen.

Is it the latest GZdoom?

So who here is going to buy Doom Eternal on PC or console? I'm planning to build a gaming PC close to the game's release date, and it would be interesting to see if Eternal would run on it. The game's increased speed honestly makes me think it would feel better on computer anyway.
