EDIT: nevermind. I got it working. and holy shit you guys, you have got to see for yourself how much care was put in to this.

So the new version of Brutal Doom (v20) came out 3 days ago. Has anyone here played it yet? I haven't yet :(

I gave version .20 a go and I can honestly say I feeled like it is very much an improvement. Enemies have new corpse sprites so if you shoot a zombie with a shotgun and he hits a wall, his corpse could be propped up. There was also an option to toggle blood as well and the rifle you start with is indeed an assault rifle. A downside is that for those that like using fist, you can't really hold a fist attack and let it go, it is now done like that off all the other weapons. The dual wielding with the assault rifles is a bit of a hit and miss. Outside of that, it ain't that bad. One plus for those that do like saving the marines they find is that they can go with you to the next level plus you can have them stay behind. That means you can keep them alive a few rooms away from a horde of Hell Knights or a single Cyberdemon.

IT'S SHIT

I FUCKING KNEW IT

THEY EVEN FUCKED UP MODS HOW DID YOU MANAGE THAT BETHESDA YOU FUCKS

AND IS THAT SUPPOSED TO BE THE CYBERDEMON

WHAT

1.) You've used SLADE, right? Think of this as that, but on steroids.

2.) Yes.

I speak in caps and swear because I'm edgy.

Seriously, calm your tits and then type like a human being.
I'm just really disappointed. Doom is my favorite game and I was really looking forward to this, but now it looks like shit. There's really no other games I'm even looking forward to (aside from maybe Just Cause 3, but I feel like that's gonna end up bad too), so what's a guy to do?

Half of my contacts list is watching the Stream, and I really don't want to because I don't want to see how bad it is.

I don't see modding as something to be worth buying the game over either and I don't predict it's going to be utilized that much. Doom 3's modding SDK was largely ignored and the most popular mods was stuff like the flashlight mods or the visual enhancement mods. I think the most prominent mod I remember coming out of Doom 3 was The Dark Mod which was many years after it's release. The same goes with Quake 4. RAGE's SDK is also largely ignored now because nobody really wants to make mods for it.

Doom had mods made for it largely because it was a very easy engine to make things for. You could edit sprites and change monster definitions really easily, and you could make, test and complete maps within hours. It's why a lot of kids in the 90s did it. With 3D games this becomes much harder and is much more time consuming. It's why Doom still gets mods to this day and why a lot of later 3D engine games only get them every few years. Some SDKs are just ignored entirely like Rise of the Triad 2013's.

I was really looking forward to it too but it's a big "meh" at best. It's just a game so no need to feel like the world is ending, it's sad but oh well, that's how things are.

So for Brutal Doom v20, is there a handy walkthrough anywhere for people who don't know shit about shit when it comes to installing and using stuff like this?

I don't think Doom 4 looks as bad as people are saying, it's actually more or less what i've expected from modern Id/Bethesda, a pseudo-old-school shooter oriented to consoles, because lets be honest here, they obviously are not going to risk themselves by making an actual old-school shooter with AAA production values in 2015, because compared to the rest of the FPS market, old-school shooters are a niche thing, and they will never move the sales figures that Bethesda needs to make a profit from Doom 4, specially after the development hell the game went through, and it's pretty obvious that the game will never live up to the original games, so anyone who had their expectations too high was going to be dissapointed anyways, based on what they shown i expect something similar to what Wolfenstein TNO was, and based on that i believe that we will get a decent enough shooter, better than the average CoD clone.

Also, that in-game map editor looks kinda neat, it seems that Bethesda wants to make something that is as easy to the player as making levels for the classic Doom games, but at the same time i really want that they also release an actual SDK for the game for those who want more freedom to create their custom content.

I don't expect anything near the quality of Wolfenstein the New Order.

The New Order was made by Ex Starbreeze members. With Doom 4 being made by post Carmack Id I'm not expecting anything remotely good.

I also don't agree with the argument of "This game needs to sell millions of copies, therefore they have to make the game worse." This wasn't how pre-Bethesda Id operated. I also don't agree with the argument that "Your expectations are just too high". This was an argument people made with Doom 3 to masque the fact it was a very clunky game that didn't age well at all.

I've also pointed out earlier that Doom 3 also had a map editor and an SDK, and very little came of it. RAGE also had a map editor and an SDK, and very little came from it. I don't see why everyone is going nuts over a map editor when it's clear the core game is most likely going to be fairly mediocre.

To be honest, all the Wolfenstein TNO pre-release content that was release looked pretty underwhelming (they showed off the most scripted parts of the game), and a lot of the criticisms people are giving now to the new Doom game were thrown towards Wolfenstein TNO, so it was a surprise when the game ended up being pretty good, i think a reason for this is that they showed both games being played with a controller, which makes the game look slower than it actually is, stuff like the weapon wheel will probably be never used by PC players (i remember Bioshock 2 having a similar slow-mo weapon wheel, which i only used on the 360 version), i think the problem here is that Bethesda just doesn't know how to showcase their shooters, and that we should wait for the final product instead to get a proper look at the game in the form of reviews and gameplays by people who actually give a fuck.

Also, credit where credit's due, Rage had pretty good gunplay.

Doom 3 still had a few good mods for it, it's just that HL2, which was released around the same time, pretty much ate up everything around it, and it had a lot more documentation for it's SDK compared to Doom 3's, Rage on the other hand was broken as fuck when it launched, making any interest about it go away almost instantly, also the fact that they released it's SDK like two years after the game was released doesn't help at all.

WHAT
After seeing Doom at E3, while it could be either fun or mediocre, the Cyberdemon really looked disappointing. Only cyber looking thing it had was its gun. No metal hoof or veiny wiring.

Downloaded BD V20 after exhausting the F U N one could experience with V19.

-Some of the features are lifted from SE and some random Zdoom forums guy's weapon pack, though they seem a bit less iffy than in there. Combat rolls, the dual-wielding, grenades, etc. Grenades are excellent for spot removal, the Plasma Rifle's old altfire is back, etc.

-Shotgun Guys combat roll. Which means the most competent Zombieman-tier enemy at my usual range of engagement got better at doing his job of being a speedbump. Shit.

-Remove a Spectre's arm, take his invisibility! Sure, whatever! I'll take anything that makes it easier to hunt the motherfuckers!

-The loss of the grenade launcher is a bit of a low blow, though you couldn't get it normally anyhow. Grenades do it's job ten times out of ten better, too.

Great news for those who have Android devices, D-Touch, a compilation of Doom ports for Android (GZDoom, PrBoom+, Chocolate Doom) has been released on the Amazon Android store and the author is makng it free for a week (free to get it, once you have it on your device you have it forever), i knew about this port for a while now, but i was hesitant to pay for it because i didn't liked the idea of paying for Doom ports, but those who had it said a lot of good things about it, now that i've tried it i can say that it's totally worth paying for it (once it becomes paid again and you couldn't get it while it was free), all 3 ports work great, even on an low-end device like mine (LG-E612g), well, GZDoom not so much since it's more demanding, but PrBoom+ and Chocolate Doom work flawlessly, i totally recommend it for those who want some demon killing on the go.

The port is okay but using GZDoom was a huge mistake in my opinion. He should've used zDoom instead since it offers a similar level of mod support but it's vastly more optimized for lower end machines because it lacks an OpenGL renderer. Because I can only use Prboom I can't use my favorite Doom mod, SmoothDoom as a result.

Also having to use the Amazon app and being unable to play the game upon uninstalling it makes me a little annoyed. If you change the resolution in Prboom even by accident it perminantly renders the screen tiled and therefore unplayable. And this is only fixable by deleting the PrDoom folder in your folder where you put your wad. (Which is only visible in the file explorer on the phone. Not via a USB cable.)
