DOOM

So now that the Eternal is done aside from master levels, what are everyone’s favorite runes? I’m usually running air control (duh), the speed boost on glory kills that also works off the crucible and chainsaw, and the one that speeds up kills or rechargds equipment. The dlc one is obviously the one that makes weak points explode.
I used the glory kill speed up, the chance to revive if you kill the demon that dealt you lethal damage and..one other one that I can't recall ATM, having 5 seconds of extra life to kill a thing once per life was super helpful on Nightmare where..shit could chonk you hard if you got tagged.

My copy of what is still arguably the best Doom arrived today. It took more than 20 years, but finally got the recognition it deserves.

More air control, health on a blood punch, and faster speed after a glory kill.

Turned the difficulty back up to nightmare after having played both of dlcs on UV when they came out. Jesus Christ I'm out of practice.

I really wasn't a fan of the Stone Imps, especially in the last level where they give you a ton of shotgun ammo and they just keep charging at you. I got my shit knocked off the stage constantly and I ended up having to tuck myself against a wall just to stay in one place.

I also had high hopes that the Dark Lord would be some sort of 1 vs 1 Quake-style or something, so seeing him in that goofy-ass armor was immediately disappointing. But at the end of the day, both DLC's were serviceable because it gave me more Doom Eternal and I enjoyed most of it.

Fuck Spirits, fuck Spirit Marauders, fuck that ghostbuster attachment to the plasma rifle that slows the game down and is unfun to use

The Plasma Beam is very good, it stun-locks the enemy and kills them, it even stops possesed enemies in their tracks... you are right though Spirits suck.

I think I just see it as a bad upgrade because I always prefer Heat Blast, which is straight up awesome. Also trying to suck up a spirit takes a good ~5 seconds, so that whole time I was getting swarmed by baddies and had to avoid them the best I could.

I mostly use the plasma gun to put imps and soldiers in stun because it has a faster rate of fire than the machine gun; which is even more important for me because I don’t use the rune that gives you health after blood punch.

That's unpopular? Everyone I've spoken to has said they hate the fact that there's no good way to take down weak mobs without wasting ammo especially since glory kills were nerfed into the ground.
It is in reddit lol. The revamped ammo system essentially made resource management useless. You no longer have to worry about wasting ammo since fodder and chainsaw recharges are infinite.
I loved it, the simplicity is one of the things I love the most about Doom 2016.

Glory Kills = Restore Ammo and Heath
Chain Saw = save charges for when you are in trouble.
Pistol = if you are in real trouble and need to tickle a demon's balls till they glow for a Glory Kill.
BFG = HOLY FUCK I AM SCREWED BUTTON.

Doom 2016 has

Glory Kills = Give a little bit of health and ammo
Flamethrower = Armor
Ice Grenade = Health
Chainsaw = Ammo AND save 3 charges for problematic demons..except you can't because you need it for Ammo
Sword = Save for Problematic Demons as well as the chainsaw.
Blood Punch = Save for Problematic Demons..as well as one specific demon that requires you to blood punch them, even if it is super janky and doesn't always hit properly, also on higher Difficulties said Demon has a Point Blank Area of Effect attack that will hurt your ass so hit it really fast or freeze it first.
Doom 2016's chainsaw had utility as a get out of jail card, but it's real use is in sustaining the pace. It was fast and it got out of the way.

In Eternal, it's more about controlling it. Ever noticed how chainsaw animation and glory kills are so much slooooooooooooooooooooooower despite this game being faster overall?

>Says Dark Lord fight could have been better. He wanted him to get out of his suit and fight. One of his ideas for the fight was a mech battle where he'd transform into different forms, such as a dragon or some other giant monster. However the reality is that it's a DLC, not a full game and they weren't able to do it due to time and other factors. Says they want to save that kind of stuff for a main game.
I really wanted the dark lord to be a slayer vs slayer type of scenario. Not sure how that would have played out though.

I’m weird because I really enjoy playing through the bad ports of Doom. I mean the really dogshit ones like the 3DO/Saturn/SNES ports. It’s just fun for me to see where they made the compromises that absolutely break the game and how they awkwardly cut sections out of levels to save space. Interesting stuff. Like seeing a mutilated portrait of someone you like and respect.

To the people who complain about TAG2 being too easy:
Play on console without FOV jacked up to a million, without custom keybinds, locked to two weapons insta-switch and that godawful weapon wheel, and disable aim-assist obviously. Go on, there's your juicy challenge.

I know people who play classic Doom that way, it's supposed to be really comfortable.

Bought Doom 2016 quite some time ago, recently got around to really play it and boy is it a fucking joy.
Grabbing ledges and blasting assholes in the face with my trusty shotgun never gets old.
The Suit-Upgrade that shows all items on the map is a true godsend.

Wasn't it Doom that some journo mouthbreather trashtalked for being too hard and then he put a video online where he repeatedly failed to hit a standing imp from 3 feet away?
Good times.
