Doomworld is chock full of purityfags, while there isn't any one in particular to be a cow over it, it's cringe behavior. Purityfag means you don't play any wads or mods that use anything except the base features the game had in 1993, and not using source ports. If you actually play the game you get bored of what it has to offer after a few years. So that means no huge maps, no new monsters, no looking up and down. Their "gameplay mod" obsession is therefore with maps that only very slightly modify the base weapons and enemies behavior and looks, these are really popular there and it's always the same unenjoyable shit. Doomworld of course hates Brutal Doom, you will pretty much get flagged as a troll if you bring it up. A great way to piss them off is find a recent posted gameplay mod and ask kind of offhandedly, "Does this mod work with Brutal Doom?" They also love Chocolate Doom and Odamex which are purityfag anti-"source ports" which of course, suck ass.

Also their Cacowards are fixed and their choices are either all their friends, or gay purity style maps. It's always the same 15,000+ sector over-developed levels. They are also obsessed with shitty map making memes started about 10 years ago where they take random little bits and pieces of things from the game and give them a fake new spin like "make an entire level based only on its original name".

Oh for sure, I play GzDoom 90% of the time, but I'll sit down and play just Doom 1 in Crispy Doom sometimes and it's still pretty fun, even if the fanbase has long since come up with more inventive and challenging maps.

Hilariously true. I like the vanilla game 'just fine' like any normal regular person, but there are *many* limits the base game has that makes Boom/Zdoom-compatible map-styles a much more appealing endeavor in the larger scope of things.

The fact at least half of them are so militant about everything being "vanilla-compatible" when it comes to community projects in-the-works is straight autist fascism that belongs nowhere. It's literally their version of "Is this compatible with Brutal Doom?" and they fail to see the irony in it.

VERY true, the biggest *blatant* conspiracy in all of Doomworld I'd say (besides local "cool mod" isn't so cool after all).

Look no further than the *cough ahem* "wad" Lilith to know some strings were being pulled. I gotta give major props to Graf Zahl for the way he outted that POS on that cacowards thread back when it was announced, he's definitely got his good moments sometimes.

I definitely see where you're coming from there, but all in all I think it's really just their way of saying "Let's make some vanilla-style maps, but not call it Vanilla Wad #69,000 in the process" and have the project inevitably become lost because it had no *somewhat* original title.

In other words, it comes from a good-hearted yet perhaps insipid mindset.

Although back in those days, the plague of /vr/ was more just incredibly retarded, attention seeking griefers who took their own griefing too seriously and tried way too hard to split the community just because they caught bans from community servers for being shitters. That, and a lot of prominent mod makers turned the community into one big circlejerk about themselves early on, which I always took as a warning sign for faggotry to come.

Hahaha /vr/ is an even bigger joke than doomworld because they don't play doom at all and never have, they only know it by the shitty memes. They only know the dancing skeleton meme, arch-vile memes, and a few other shitty doom memes that got old 15 years ago like RIP AND TEAR LOL and "No John, you are the demons!" and NEDM and "HAS HAD ITS ASS KICKED FOR ALL TIME". If you say the word "Revenant" they don't know that's the actual name of the dancing skeleton they keep posting over and over again. They actually think that revenants are boss monsters because they are too stupid to know how to circle strafe, and think its missiles are un-dodgeable. Have you tried like, running down a side hallway and waiting for the missiles to explode? Maybe?
