🐮 Lolcow Doug Jackson / SV Seeker - Boomer hubris personified, an incompetent lunatic's dreams slowly crumbling to dust because of his own poor decisions.

Doug swapped from 12v to 24v last week. He did not change out the switches, relays, and other gear to 24v rated equipment and ends up burning up a bunch of gear. He tries to add some diodes to protect the relays but they are underrated and blow up too.

Master electrician at work:

Doug has still not replied to my question on his AMA, highly disrespectful.

I'd update the OP but for the fact Doug hasn't yet accomplished any new feats of navigational error as he drifts towards the Mississippi and I've also been a busy boy. Boggles the mind I've built ten times the number of boats Doug has over his lifetime just during the stay in Dardanelle.

I wonder do ships exchange insurance info after an accident?
Does Doug give the person he just hit his "You are a tyrant and an idiot. My freedom is worth more than you." speech in stead of proof of insurance?

How retarded is this idiot? I mean I get he wants to learn by doing, but usually most people listen to advice about how to do things not just tard their way into it. This guy is like Chris Chan but building a boat disaster.

Actually yes. It’s one of the reasons you have to have insurance before the coast guard will let you put a vessel over a certain length in a waterway. I’m excited for the video of him playing chicken with the oil tankers in Baton Rouge.

Doug once again shows how a real man fixes things. If you don’t have the right tool for the job, like scaffolding, just chop up and weld some crap onto a ladder. What? You’re not chicken are you?

As a bonus he drops his tape measure into the lake.

Garmin Tracker Link

He's making good time down the Mississippi, but I think that's partially because he can't stop. Looked like he tried to anchor, didn't have enough power to set his homebuilt anchor, and wound up beaching and tying off to a billboard for the night.

Then, after getting underway this morning, he stops suddenly in the middle of the channel for hours.

Doug ran aground again, this time because they were on the wrong side of the channel buoy.

Note the list, note the demeanor of the "crew" and note that Doug's spooked enough to wear an inflatable without being compelled to by the Coast Guard or the Army Corps of Engineers.

Isn't being on the wrong side of a buoy and running aground equivalent to being in the wrong lane and running off of the road?

If the Coast Guard or any other enforcement agency (I have seen local PDs with boats that have lights and sirens) witnesses one of the bone headed violations can Doug be arrested and Seeker be impounded?

I wont give him clicks, can someone who watched the "Hit my first barge" video tell me is it just click bait or did he run in to a barge and think that's no big deal everyone does it?

Did he post footage of the collision?

He seems to be documenting why he should not be allowed to pilot anything bigger than an innertube.

No footage of the barge collision, just an offhand remark in the short. They went through some locks and got further downriver and oh yeah, hit a barge.

You’re responsible for using the navigation charts, rules of the river/sea to stay in the marked channel. Wandering out of that is a hazard to yourself and other vessels.

I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also a reason for your insurance to not pay out due to negligence.

But that’s why Doug built a sturdy metal boat. He’s got a welder and a grinder and can fix anything!

"Others follow charts and channels for fear their insurance wont pay out if they don't. We have no insurance therefore we can sail wherever we want, however we want!"
Doug, probably.

He really is going to be playing chicken with oil tankers.
I am making popcorn as we speak.

Seriously though they let ocean going tankers all the way up to the Baton Rouge for the Exxon Mobil refinery. And that is just the farthest they let then go up the Mississippi. After that you’ve got to dodge grain haulers, chemical barges, etc.

Dow chemical has a huge facility right below Baton Rouge in Plaqumine. They make everything from antifreeze to chlorine and aqueous ammonia. God help the locals if he hits one of those barges. And that is the norm for industries along the river all 200 miles to the coast.

I do love him deciding to head to the coast during hurricane season. He’s a certifiable genius.

IIRC One of the "Dow" complexes in Lake Charles Louisiana is still technically owned and ran by Union Carbide.
Unlike when Dow bought Rohm and Haas they have kept Union Carbide as a separate subsidiary.
Presumably just in case they lose a court case over that whole Bhopal thing* they can cut them loose and claim to have never known them.

Yes, Doug could singlehandedly get Union Carbide back in the news and along with the phrase "Bhopal on the bayou" .

*Ranting no one cares about
I think the courts have gotten it right. Union Carbide India Limited was a separate division that was ran by Indians and that made their own decisions. Stupid, short sighted, horrible decisions but they were made in India.

The Yesmen famously made the announcement that Dow would sell Union Carbide and give the money to India.
They were over 10 years late. Union Carbide did sell UCIL and gave that money to the Indian government who got right on keeping for themselves. Part of that deal was the the plant and environmental responsibility for the same would transfer to the Indian government. This fact was never mentioned in any of the "Extradite Warren Anderson NOW! documentaries.

I don't understand how college educated chemical engineers would just accept a plant that regularly leaked MIC as normal. Nor do I see how they would sign off on things like turning the refrigeration of to the storage tanks to save on the power bill while leaving the vent gas scrubber and water deluge system in disrepair. It tells me that Indian diploma mills are not a recent invention.

The places where Union Carbide screwed up were locating a major industrial plant in the middle of town and agreeing to a shitty deal from the Indian Government. Technically UC owned 50.2% of UCIL but in practice they had to get permission from the Indian Government for damn near everything.

There were cases where items should have been made of stainless steel but the government rejected that becase their brother in law owned a steel factory in India. Becase of regular interference like that the plant was doomed before it began operation.

TL;DR Don't ever cut a deal requiring you to turn over a complicated chemical plant over to people who have not mastered indoor plumbing. It will only end in tears.

He's off the bar, and beached again, not anchored. The vest is off.

How much you wanna bet it was the Coasties that either pulled him off for or forced him to get a tug, and he doesn't want to admit it?

Doug telling others "Don't be a dick", that is an amazing lack of self awareness.
I guess if he had the tiniest bit of self awareness he wouldn't be a lol cow.
Well, Moo, Moo buckaroo, you are not just a cow but a dick at the same time.
Whenever fate, karma or the law of averages finally knocks his dick in the dirt I hope the cameras are rolling.

I wonder if by "gave them a souvenir" if he means "scars from injuries" or whatever parts that fell off of the boat?

Something I noticed. His speed according to the Garmin Tracker is consistently 7-9mph. That happens to coincide with the speed of the river. I wonder how much of his speed is from his motor and how much is from the current. Also of note is the fact that in order to steer in a current you have to be moving FASTER then it. I’m wondering if that’s why he beached himself and hit a barge. He can’t actually steer his collection of floating scrap iron.

God I swear this asshole needs a constant tracker on him so other boats know to watch out for this dumb faggot.
