He doesn’t need a transfer case he need a fucking reduction gear. Like every other ship in the world uses.
Since he is bound and determined to use scrap yard fixes seems to me a 2 speed rear end from a grain truck or an old school auxiliary transmission from a big truck would make more sense.

Using the correct part engineered for the job would make the most sense but we know Dough is allergic to that.
 
A summary of Doug's accomplishments while squatting at pirate's cove:
  • caulked the bus windows
  • met his new mentors, two seasoned junk sailors (never seen or mentioned again)
  • oil spill
  • Added hydraulics to raise sail
  • Added some tender brackets
  • various sail modifications, usually involving adding brackets
  • Drifted aimlessly twice (first time at 2 knots, ran aground second time
  • Added more tender brackets
  • invented new way to anchor, way better than anyone else
  • Added a diesel heater (even though its spring time?)
Doug has now fucked off to Pensacola where he will no doubt make many more friends and not waste his days fuming at what people on the internet are saying about him and his joke of a boat.

This next part is what I'm looking forward to. Up to now the Seeker has not had to deal with real open ocean conditions, sticking to the canals and protected bays of the Gulf Intracostal Waterway. That protection ends at Pensacola. If Doug heads east he will have no shelter and few places to stop for repairs until he gets to Key West and picks up the Atlantic Intarcoastal Wateray. I wonder if he will find a reason to head for Texas.

If Doug is still anchored outside that "Pirates Cove" bar, then I'm pretty sure he is in Alabama, not Florida. It is literally about a mile away from the Florida border, but in Alabama just the same.

I have no idea if Alabama has similar anchorage laws, but my guess would be that they would be more lenient, as everything is less regulated in 'Bama.

**ETA - I didn't see where he was now in Pensacola. I wonder if he wore out his welcome at Pirates Cove. Regardless, I could see him just skipping back and forth between P'Cola and Gulf Shores all season to try to grift off the tourists.

That list is pretty intense. Doug does a better job of hiding it than I thought.

There's no way he could take that thing in to the gulf, let alone the Atlantic. Any serious waves are going to come right over his decks and start swamping his (apparently not water-tight !) hatches.

I learned everything I know about boats from this thread so I'm not sure what "getting taken to gapplebees" entails.
It's when you get yourself a nice dinner date, meet them at the lights in gap city, drop the clutch and serve them a nice round of gap fries with gap steak and a side of gapple salad topped with gapple cider vinegrette and a delicious dessert of gap sundae.

It's just dumb racer slang for beating someone by a large gap.

So we have shifting cargo, a lot of heel, an admittedly tender boat, not all the sails up, a light wind, and a prayer that whatever clapped out school bus part he made the portholes actually keeps water out.

Sounds fine to me!

Last I checked he swapped the blades on his prop to the spare set. These new ones, unlike the old, are "balanced" according to Doug though he offers no details on how this was accomplished or how the creation of the spare set differs from the first.
 
I'm not that surprised there is a thread about Doug. He boomers so many internet fights that he only feeds his trolls. I always assumed his fights were relegated to facebook. The more I learned about him on here the funnier I find this adventure. I am also glad that actual experts have tried to give him advice that he refused.

I started watching him a bit after he finished welding the 2 main sheets of steel of his hull together. I would say my interest over the years have evolved a bit from others here due to my lack of insight.*checks channel* well fuck me that was almost a decade ago. (for me)

I first thought Holy Shit! that guy is building a massive boat in his back yard.
I continued to watch his videos for the comfort value of watching metal work being done.
I never built a boat and enjoyed watching this guy do it in his back yard.
I began noticing mistakes being made and foolish fixes that would often fail or have to be redone. I always chocked it up to learning
I began wondering if this boat would even sail.
Then it was 90% finished (from my perspective) and a date was given for it to sail
I was legitimately excited to see this retarded boomer build a fucking massive boat in his back yard that could sail.
Then the wait started due to "insurance"
I was actually happy it didn't sink, when it finally got in the water.
Then he kept "working" on it. It was simply things like over complicated parts failing or cheaply purchased parts showing their price.
Now over a full year of "living on the water" he has never left for open water and never stopped fixing issues he created.

I just wonder if he will be as massive a fuck up as david's farm.

Doug takes another victory lap over the haters and cowardly safety people. He has a new 2 minutes of gloating about how he was right and they were wrong. He also has a very interesting take on sea salt.
