Getting into a humanities PhD program is a joke. They basically open the door for you since you'd have to be retarded to even WANT to pursue a PhD in humanities. Job prospects are extremely slim (relative to the paygrade you'd expect after being an academic for 5+ years on top of your undergraduate studies). You can either go be a wage-slave post-doc, be a high-school teacher, be an underpaid wage-slave at a community college, publish your own shit (which typically pays like crap unless you actually have something compelling to say), or get a cozy professorship position (if all the starts align and jupiter fucks uranus, these positions are extremely limited and it usually comes down to being in the right place at the right time + a bunch of other factors). On top of all that, you're paid absolute peanuts by the university, if your program is even paid at all (many humanities PhDs aren't funded, contrast that with STEM PhDs which typically are, albeit at a similarly low but better paygrade).
There's nearly zero benefit to getting a PhD in the humanities, you have to be really passionate, or a complete fucking neanderthal to pursue it.

He wasnt wokring though there in March 2021. He obviously had left after only teaching two classes. And he never was given a full position he was just a post-doctoral fellowship teacher which is pretty much glorified try out roll for a fresh graduate.

Tenure really is like winning the goddamn slackass sweepstakes. You can't get fired no matter how badly you fuck off in your lectures and any other professorial-things you have to do. It takes the entire faculty board voting 100% to remove your ass if I am not mistaken, but I think this kind of thing would have been enough to get a vote to revoke tenure through, if it had been needed.

There’s been more than a few cases of highly intelligent phd candidates and professors having legitimate schizophrenic breakdowns. The man who shot Gabby Giffords had a schizophrenic breakdown. Mother fuckers are dangerous. Genius and insanity are 2 sides of the same coin sometimes. Not that Jared Lee was particularly smart or accomplished, but schizophrenia starts showing a little later than most serious mental illness and comes with a dedication and focus that turns against them. Aaron Harrouff has been argued to be insane, and up till this was a good student and good kid. Schizophrenic people are crazy.
