Speaking of nostalgia, there are two geriatric companions showing up in the next special

And I was one of those people who were collecting and reading those Doctor Who novels as they were coming out.

I legit loved Lungbarrow. Looms were an amazingly cool idea at the time. If nothing else, it was weird and original.

It sure beats the shit that's passing for sci-fi these days.
The amount of guns on display is hilarious.

I thought the Doctor was anti- gun. Sup with that?

So talking to my dad, he's still enjoying Doctor Who. Doesn't really use social media or talk to anyone online unless it's business. Somehow he's still enjoying the Jodie Whitaker stuff. More power to him I guess
Your dad is senile. And/or is about to troon out. Also you might be a product of homo sex.

It changes from Doctor to Doctor. 12 hated that shit because he was general tired of pretending to be OK (hence why he went with an old face instead of a tumblerite pleasing one), but 13's personality is all over the place so she just does whatever the plot needs her to do.

13 has been shown to be anti gun. Or was it knife. I forget which. This era has been such shite.

Basically "all violence bad!!!" The worst/funniest partisthe "humane" ways to off enemies the fucking thing pitches the show unironically frames as good are genuinely fucking monstrous compared to guns or violence like starving them to death in a room or some shit like that.

I'm guessing the eventual denouement to the "Thirteen x Yas" thing will be yet another example of Chibnall's uncanny ability to absolutely piss off both sides of an argument - half of the fanbase will be enraged by the pandering and virtue-signalling, while the other half will complain about Thirteen inevitably regenerating (probably into a man, if most of the casting rumors about Fourteen are to be believed) before anything can actually come of this little ship.

Incidentally, while seeing Tegan toting a gun looks stupid as all hell, Janet Fielding was apparently seriously unwell for several years, so I guess I can't totally begrudge her the chance to come back and do the whole "action granny" thing.

Seriously, was Teegan in it? I turned off half-way through. Even trying the Easter special was a mistake. It was dreadful. Jodie Whitaker is terrible as the Doctor, her sex not withstanding. She just gurns her way through it. The editing on the show was so bad that I feel like the editors simply had nothing to work with - I see Jodie grab a pulley rope on the pirate ship, sort of half-start to swing and then jump cut to her standing on the deck - clearly she couldn't actually swing on the rope even a short distance! Or else some safety rule forbade it but my guess is on the former. Lots of similar examples. And the dialogue was terrible - in the span of 60 seconds they repeat what they're going to do three times; and they do this throughout the episode. E.g.

"We have a time machine. We can go back to before the ship sank."
"So we can go back four hundred years to before the ship sank!
*Tardis noises*
"We're back to before the ship sank - four hundred years ago."

I might have the words not quite right but that very much was the exchange. The whole thing was a rapid sequence of poorly done set-pieces with no time to breathe and hilariously abrupt changes in tone.

Small PL: My mother, who liked Patrick Troughton and has a knack for brevity that I did not inherit absolutely nailed the episode with her usual precision: "It's like a comedy, but it isn't."

Not in this one, but she and Ace are appearing in the next story, the one where we'll finally see the back of this era. I can somewhat understand them bringing back Ace just to finally wrap up the loose end of how and when she left the Doctor (in fact, I'm surprised it's taken them 17 years to do it), but Tegan seems like a really random choice.

Are they going to have Ace give us the expanded version of "white kids burned it down"?

I'm surprised then they didn't gived an explaination about Ace's departure in the 1996 tv movie.

Now, let's see if they'll drop others Easter eggs like cameos of the previous regenerations and other former companions of the old school Dr. Who. One guy wished to see cameos of Susan as well as Jo Grant.

Guns are bad when defending yourself against killer robots, but creating IEDs from their corpses is perfectly justified.

Guns are bad, but suffocation is humane and cool.

The writers really didn't bring their A game.

Are Nyssa and Tegan still confirmed (by RTD no less) to be dykes?
That was only mentioned in a Zoom skit by the cast of The Sarah-Jane Adventures, but it wouldn't surprise me if Chibnall took the opportunity to make it canon.

And yet I could still buy Tegan and Nyssa as a couple way more easily than I could Thirteen and Yas.

It's definitely been a fan theory for literally decades that they were dykes together, and I never actually saw that "zoom skit," but I think we're talking about the same thing. And it should be noted that RTD officially signed off on it supposedly:

Not watching the episode, but lol
