I mean he's right. It's not like every show has to be perfect and airtight, but the properties need to at least show some effort at being cohesive. If at some point they stop, then the simple question is: if the creators don't care about the story, why should I?

Canon is how properties work. It's pretty much the core of copyright. Otherwise what makes "Book #2" of something different from any other book?

Daleks have to appear in one shape or form once per season per the deal with Terry Nation's estate. The Children In Need special was allowed by the Nation estate to cover this clause for the 60th Anniversary "season" but they'll still have to include them in the next upcoming season.

Also, The One Who Waits is probably the Mara, since the giant snake creature would fit in with Davies saying he was going to do more fantasy stories plus find ways to bring in older Doctors (IE Davison and his crew) for guest spots

Finally saw the special and was ok at best, did not like that they just threw that the Master survived somehow the exterminatus of Gallifrey but lost against the toymaker and now is a gangsta tooth and already preparing the villain of the next season with he who waits

Edit: to be fair, no-one on the current production team has ever changed a plug or put up a shelf. They have no idea what a screwdriver fucking looks like.

He should stay the fuck away from Mara wtf. Its two episode are some of the best in the entire series, especially Snakedance though I know Kinda is rated higher by most people.

RTD please shit up some other part of the series, don't touch the 5th's run. VNA's would be right up your alley for example.

I never knew that anyone liked Snakedance, wow, learn something new everyday.

Doctor Who used to have no canon, just mystery, and that was what was so fun about it. As great as The Deadly Assassin was, it led to making the Time Lords more mundane, and when they went back to that over and over it lost something. At least you still had no idea who The Doctor was apart from some dirtbag on the run trying to help people. That had charm; all-knowing spacetime god who came from a Black girl is not what anyone's head canon was when we still had to fill in the blanks for ourselves.

they also have no clue how a screwdriver is supposed to function given the shit the last several years with it putting up forcefields and shooting lasers and shit. A lot of uses of it in the series have been kinda a stretch but the core concept is it's literally a "screwdriver" that operates via sonic frequencies and shit that can tamper with electronics. At this point it's neither sonic nor screwdriver, it's literally just the click remote with extra features. some aspects of the design are cool for sure but that ain't a fucking screwdriver, sonic or otherwise.
EDIT: Someone in the comments of that video pointed out the font used on the "screwdriver" was a fanmade one from 2011 that seems to have gone uncredited. yeesh!

It's kinda funny because when RTD brought back the master back in the earlier seasons he made an explicitly clear moment where he made a laser gun in the shape of a sonic screwdriver and fucking called it a "laser screwdriver" because it was shaped like a screwdriver and shot fucking lasers.Speaking of bringing old characters back from what i've seen of the new episode (I WILL NOT BUY DISNEY+ FUCK YOUUUU) he did the same thing to the toymaker he did with the master kinda which was "unhinged wacky quirky aaa" but it felt hollow cause there was less of an actual reason backing behind it. also ripped off Q from star trek kinda. Didn't even give the toymaker his cool space wizard robe at any point despite several outfit changes and it's never even addressed despite that being like the one outfit he's known for.
