Just watched The Legend of Ruby Sunday.

Spoilers:
Sutekh is the villain and basically ends the episode by ordering death on the entire universe. Susan Triad is his avatar and Mrs. Flood might be too, or at least someone who proclaimed his coming. Ruby's mum isn't revealed, so it could possibly still be Susan.

It was actualy a decent episode - for once - with very little sjw nonsense and a fairly clever reveal.

So, I've mentioned this in the past, (>implying it's worth remembering), but I am mainly a fan of the classic series, mostly the first four doctors. I have at some point watched Eccleston's tenure, albeit a long time ago.
To get to the point, if I were to watch some of the revival series, would there be anything you guys would recommend, or is my blissful ignorance worth preserving?

10 through 12 are good. Even if you don't go full tilt into the rest of the show, at least watch the episodes "Blink" and "Vincent and the Doctor."

Current season (skip Space Babies), and for older seasons you're good for the most part although S7 is hit or miss and the less said about 11-13 the better.

I genuinely think Nculti Gatwa might be the single most astroturfed person I've ever seen, I haven't seen a single person saying anything but shining praise for him anywhere but here and I feel like I'm taking crazy pills when I say to people "I think he's okay but he's not a good fit for the role of The Doctor" I don't fucking get it, how are peoples standards this low that THIS is what they expect from an immortal lord of time and space

If only he had the talent to achieve the dizzy heights of mediocrity.

Seriously if you wanted a black Doctor I could think of numerous better candidates. I think Idris Elba could cut it (or nearly any role for that matter), or even Mos Def if you take his Ford Prefect performance as an example of an eccentric but unforced casting.

I like him a lot, but it's still early days even though we're at the end of the first season. It's harder to form any deep opinions when most episodes don't really take the time to slow down and allow for great character-driven moments of relative calm. Domestic moments essentially, like Rose's drama with her mother or the to and fro of Amy and Rory's marriage.

Fifteen feels closer to Five or Nine in how much more grounded he is (compared to the grander Doctor's like Twelve or Six), so without this element his performance is a tad uninformed and can come across as empty at times.

I kind of want Ruby to turn out to be someone from left field. Like say, she's Ian and Barbara's grandkid who was kidnapped and presumed dead via one of the Doctor's many villains (which would be foreshadowed by why the Doctor didn't go back to visit Susan; him going back to visit Ian and Barbara led to their granddaughter's apparent death/kidnapping).

RTD's brainworms are playing up again. He's convinced that the world is becoming unsafe for his fellow faggots.

My final guess before the episode drops in just over an hour (the cinema premiere is happening as I type this) is that she's the Doctor's great granddaughter. The whole season's about family, so it would make sense.

Edit:
Lol I was completely off. It turns out that Mirror's guess was closer to the truth. Her mum is some rando human (and so is her dad) that Sutekh thought was so important that the entirety of creation started to revolve around her. Mrs. Flood is almost certainly a god of some kind too, likely connected to all the snow that's been happening.

Finale was so-so. Not the worst I've seen, but far from the best. Typical RTD where the first part is stronger.
