I thought that had more to do with the BBC because he basically got blacklisted from British tv and films and had to come over to the States to do anything acting-wise. Might be different now that it's run by Disney. A girl can dream.

It's probably something lame like the Tennant Doctor that's running around out there regenerating at the same time as the current Doctor because reasons and he's cycling through former forms and remembers the time Casandra stole Roses body and they briefly did the whole body switching thing on the ladder and it's just a transition.

Either way, her wording of that TARDIS and not the TARDIS implies one from the past in some way. Maybe it's Bad Wolf in a Timey Wimey sort of way. Not the new Doctor.

Also she would have to be completely desperate for money with no way to get any other if she were to take a a role like The Doctor and not have an introducing after they introduced the introducing since it came back.

It just occurred to me that the retarded queer showrunner could have given the show some remote chance of a future if he just had black homo doctor regenerate into her and then have the whole timeless child thing and whatever boring shit jeet master was doing be retconned as a long con by Omega to fuck up the setting enough for him to escape instead of having him be a big skeleton baby for five seconds.

Hell not only would this unfuck the shows biggest fuckup (until now lol) that has been the biggest source of fan abandonment (again...until now) but he could then engage in preening faggot woke masturbation about how he stunningly bravely brought back the black female doctor and made her full time.

Two really interesting observations I'm seeing recurring since I've had a bit more time to read over the reactions are how much of a failure of a second reboot this was because it's still so mired in RTD and Chibnall's runs and constantly referencing back to those, so new viewers are consistently lost. In fact, I see more people asking questions about what even happened in this episode (particularly with Poppy) than anything else, also how bi-generation was supposedly explained very quickly in a single one-off line went over most viewer's heads. But there's also other lingering questions, mostly about plot points or mystery boxes that were left unresolved such as Susan. Basically no one left this finale satisfied or felt like they had any questions answered. It really is terrible in that way, I can't really recall past finales from the revival being like this. Certainly showrunners have their longterm plots they want to seed and hint at, but you need to at least resolve some of what you've set up but there seems to have been little to no effort beyond what needed immediate attention, like writing Ncuti out of the show or rushing through Omega because he was mentioned and needed to appear.

And the other is how despite how woke RTD is trying to be, he still pushes characters into these heteronormative roles that make the actual wokies furious. In particular they take issue with Belinda, how due to the plot she's basically forced into motherhood (for the woke this is a big no-no regardless, you're not allowed to depict a woman being happy with motherhood, motherhood is meant to be a daunting chore that should be avoided at all costs) without her consent and her character is totally altered. The Belinda at the end of the series isn't the same one that Doctor Gay began to travel with. It's really interesting seeing how out of touch Russel is despite his best efforts to incorporate these wokeisms, the whole "non-binary" thing from the last 60th special also comes to mind where his inclusion of the phrase made no sense. He's sacrificing this British cultural touchstone on this altar of wokeness to try to secure his own legacy as he continues to churn out these self-referential masturbatory scripts and it seems like he's the only person involved in Doctor Who that's actually happy with any of it. It also reframes his performative wokeness as something particularly selfish, I'm instantly reminded of the whole thing with him unilaterally deciding Davros can never be depicted in a wheelchair again because his husband was in one is just insanely self-centered, but that seems to be the defining feature of his second go. And this Billie Piper stunt casting seems to be an extension of that, even if she's not really going to be the next Doctor, it's just him referencing something he did 20 years ago again.

Interestingly, he was at a con with Piper a couple of years back (which is where the famous 'sack Russel, sack Julie!' quote comes from) so I wonder when exactly she agreed to be a part of the show again. The pair are meant to reunite at another con July 19th if I remember correctly, so I'm sure there'll be some very interesting clips from that Q&A.

The thing I'm most curious about is if Piper even knows what character she's meant to be, what plot Russel had in mind or if she merely appeared for the regeneration cameo with no information. Particularly given there's nothing in production, no new season, this could be the end of the show for the foreseeable future and it could have just been a last desperate publicity stunt to try to get the show renewed.

RTD has a history of these publicity stunts and messing with the tabloids and whatever else, but it's really affecting the bottom line of the show. He got what he wanted, everyone's talking, but in the context of an underwhelming finale it's mostly been negative.

Yeah, it's hard to tell with her because she wasn't exactly like a 10/10 supermodel before or anything, I could see a lot of insecurity over that because of how judgmental this industry is. She was also a pop singer before she began acting. But the sheer level of work she's got done just makes me think it's some kind of mental issue, like body dysmorphia or something.

The other issue is that you have a lot of stunted growth type adults who are incapable of enjoying more cerebral content and are locked into liking the exact same things they did as a teenager, but they resent that it's still viewed as entertainment or something meant for children. They want it to be more 'mature' and 'adult' so they can walk around with their Star Wars shirt in public without feeling like a manchild. Andor in particular really seems to be a part of that, these manchildren are gleeful that their favorite toy-show is talking about political stuff like immigration and rape so they can feel like a big boy when they reference Star Wars the next time their shitlib friends bring up the issues.

I don't share the same view, while as I've gotten older my tastes have changed, I still enjoy things like Star Wars and Doctor Who, I just recognize that they're generally meant for a younger audience, but I can find things that I like about them as an adult as well. But I would never selfishly demand that it be taken from those younger viewers and made to suit my tastes, what a nasty thing to ask. There's kind of interesting parallels with what's happened to Batman over the years, but I think tonally the more mature angle works with that character and setting compared to turning Star Wars into misery porn with rape. Pure lunacy.

She really was sabotaged by Chibnall who insisted she not watch any of the show before taking on the role which just fucking kneecapped her, and that's not even getting into the shit writing she was given. I wonder if she's taken some time to watch the show a bit since she left. She certainly felt like she was slipping more into the Doctor than I'd seen her outside of that one scene in Haunting of Villa Diodoti, which is to my knowledge the only other time she's actually played the Doctor or invoked any of the character during her run.

This is all rumors and whatnot but my understanding is that Russel and his cohorts at the BBC basically went out of their way to destroy his career after he left. He quit over the working conditions and how the crew were being overworked and in unsafe conditions but no one on the production staff or at the BBC cared. They announced that he was leaving because he was "very tired", basically implying that he was lazy or unable to handle the workload. (This is also where the line 10 has about Harriet Jones comes from, "She looks tired, doesn't she?" Basically Russel twisting the knife.) So he had to go to the states to work because he was totally blacklisted from British television.

Doctor Who isn't run by Disney, it's basically run by Bad Wolf Productions which is owned by Russel, who has been given free reign by the BBC, but Disney doesn't seem to have any kind of editorial control, they merely have the US streaming rights. I think I've seen it mentioned in this thread before that they're kind of desperate for content that isn't Marvel or Disney to try to diversify their streaming offerings, but does it really help when it's total crap that's being offered?

I think it's the original ending for the episode, they had to reshoot it and do a regeneration scene instead after Ncuti decided to leave the show which is one reason why there was zero followup or metion of Susan again. Because there's STILL no third season confirmation and nothing in production - it'll be 2028 before we get anything new at best, is he meant to sit about doing nothing until then? I don't think there's even a Christmas special, so the show is going to be stuck in this weird not-cancelled-not-in-production limbo that feels more like the BBC and RTD staying mum to avoid taking an L or giving even the slightest impression that the show's critics were right about it.
 
Billie's work is definitely noticeable, but I dunno. I think she'll work as an older sort of female Doctor and isn't necessarily terrible to look at.

It's also possible that living in the UK has warped my perception of what a woman her age should look like, but still.
