I think I'll finish season 10 and then rewatch Battlestar Galactica again, and just leave Doctor Who in the past where it should stay. Fringe has been pretty good and it really captures the energy of the X-Files.

I watched 1 and a half seasons of whitaker and I gave up because it was genuinely unwatchably dogshit in the worst way: By being boring as fuck. I will generally finish or continue stuff even if it is complete ass as long as its complete ass in an entertaining way, e.g. the boys, invincible, scavenger's reign, and a million other shows and series, in the same way watching someone pour fireworks into a trashfire is entertaining. Chinball's era was so boring I could not bring myslf to continue watching because it felt like watching paint dry.But it's funny how easily you forget to mention they brought Murray Gold back.
The issue with Whittaker is that she was grossly miscast in the same way casting steven hawking to play usain bolt is miscasting. The Doctor is fundumentally a male character archetype that is a composite of the most famous historical and mythological male archetypes in human storytelling from the past 10.000 years. The sage, the soldier, the grandfather, the trickster, the professor.I personally think Whittaker is worse.
To this day I genuinely have absolutely ZERO idea what the fuck flux is about and seemingly nobody else does either, because I've seen people tear appart nucti's seasons and whitaker's first two, but apparently flux was so boring not even youtube critics want a bite of it which is WILD.There was a cursory mention of how Flux destroyed the universe and didn't un-destroy it.
They brought him back in the Disney era, so all the good it did. Proof, if ever we needed any, that delicious chocolate mixed with dog shit is unfortunately dog shit.
But it's funny how easily you forget to mention they brought Murray Gold back.
Considering that even all the way upto capaldi his work was stellar I assume he was a little bitter over being shitcanend by chibnall without the BBC interveining and if he was a fan he was probably disillusioned by how shit the series had become so he wasn't putting his 100% in.He even had a brief cameo on screen in the episode with the Beatles, during the finishing musical number. He was concentrating on playing the piano and not participating in the hype, iirc.
I agree that the music in the first few seasons of NuWho was fantastic, so it's notable how forgettable it was in the last 2, despite having the same composer. Maybe he just didn't give a shit anymore. Like in the other music-based episode - the Eurovision one - the supposedly anthemic, inspiring song of the pseudo Palestinian race is gone from my mind, but I still remember (and can hum along to) the song of the Ood.
I cant give you specifics but i remember the music being pretty good for most part of the disney seasons. I'd assume the shitty Political song is bad because he was uninterested in it, Dugga Doo that he made for the episode for himself because he wanted to is a banger. He even had a brief cameo on screen in the episode with the Beatles, during the finishing musical number. The Impossible Planet and Vale Decem were always my favourites. The cello in the former is absolutely, hauntingly beautiful, and I was blessed enough to see the latter performed live during the DW Symphonic Spectacular tour, fantastic concert tbhhow unbelievably fucking good the doctor who soundtrack is
It's mostly kind of forgettable. They changed composers too often, and used a lot of supplemental stock BGM, so IMO it never really felt cohesive throughout the run.I wonder, what's your guys thoughts on classic who music?
my favorite composers and music from classic who have to be the ones from the 80s, I like some of the 60s music but the 80s stuff (while very synthy) sometimes is good. I'd say my favorite composers have to be Peter Howell, Paddy Kingsland, Keff McCulloch, and Dominic Glynn. It's mostly kind of forgettable. There are some gems though. The "cyberman" theme that also got used for a few other monsters in the 60s is memorable and kinda haunting.
I always assumed it was made to be a royalty-free alternative to "The Snake" by Al Wilson, because they couldn't afford/justify paying for the rights. The part of the song they dance to in the episode matches up with it, and the lyrics would foreshadow Lance being a traitor and Donna being naively trusting of him.Hell, the guy can even do lyrical songs. I legitimately thought love don't roam was an 60s classic, I was shocked when I found a song this good was made specifically for the show by murray.
Similarly, so is the Master's hypnosis theme, which also started being used in 1971 and made it all the way up to 1973 I'm pretty sure. The theme from The Mind of Evil (1971) is iconic.
We have our new Virgil, folks!
