So apparently Gallifrey got blowed up offscreen again. Glad to see they did jack shit with it since the Doctor managed to save it in the 50th.
Maybe Chib wants to be like Moffat? Put his chubby fingers in all of the Doctor's lore. Although I doubt anyone would object if he retconed Clara's importance ;D

You know, I don't get all the Clara hate. She wasn't my favorite companion or anything, and I'll even grant that she overstayed her welcome by at least a series (probably closer to 2 series'), but I'd still happily take her over Bill "Did you know I'm a lesbian?" Potts, Martha "Why don't you love me?" Jones, or especially Rose "Queen chav bitch of the universe" Tyler.

Edit: Hell, I even hated Amy more when she left than I did Clara at her end, but that had more to do with Moffat making her an unlikable cunt in between Series 6 and 7.

BBC? Expect every 3rd person to be black, every 4th person to be on the LGBTBBQ++ spectrum, and the main villian to be White (gender is irrelevant).

Why put actors in roles who haven't earned it? Because diversity>Skill and the latest BBC shows suck for checkmarking off sterotypes as they go along.

Why would a Indian man have to hide his race in the Third Reich?

Exactly. The Indian nationalists (aka the eventual winners of that geopolitical conflict from who the current authorities trace their political lineage) were buddy-buddy with the Nazis and Japs, them being enemies of the British. It's like libs forgot who the Nazis were and think of them as cartoon characters who hate darkies. It could be a Daffy Duck episode in which Daffy upends a bucketful of tar over Porky, Porky falls on an open-top freight rail car, the train goes through the cartoon Auschwitz gate - choo choo! - and emerges with the car carrying baked ham.

Yeah, as a character she wasnt THE WORST but in terms of plot esp. later on kinda urks me like she was the most spheshul and helped save galifrey and choose TARDIS and Doctor saved HER from (in my opinion very fitting and well executioned) death and made her technically immortal, you know not Brigadier, Romana, Ponds or even Adric. HER. Maybe im overblowing it a little but you get the point

Wait until they find out that academics used to think that language and ethnicity had the same origin and so "Aryan" covered the area that is now called Indo-European.

The blonde hair and blue eyes thing was specifically Nordics who were supposed to be the original and leaders of the Aryans but not the only Aryans.

Hans and Japanese were "Aryans of the east" (i.e. Hitler recognised them as another independently built civilisation whereas Jews were leeches).

Hitler made it up as he went along. Jews were Caucasian/Aryan but "sneaky" and so had to be killed. Slavs were in the way of the Lebensraum and so the science had to be faked so they could be "depopulated". Meanwhile for one of his old friends he could make an exception:

Even though Maurice had been a party member since 1919, taken part in the abortive Beer Hall Putsch, for which he was awarded the prestigious Blood Order, and been a bodyguard for Hitler, Himmler considered him to be a serious security risk given his "Jewish ancestry".[3][20] Himmler recommended that Maurice be expelled from the SS, along with other members of his family. To Himmler's annoyance, Hitler stood by his old friend.[19] In a secret letter written on 31 August 1935, Hitler compelled Himmler to make an exception for Maurice and his brothers, who were informally declared "Honorary Aryans" and allowed to stay in the SS.

I saw a clip of this new Indian Master and the actor seemed to be doing a good job. I've only seen some of the reboot series, but he seemed to be channeling John Simm's second appearance pretty well.

I'm not even a fan or anything, but within the context of coming into a legacy role and having to balance doing your own thing while also respecting the history of it this new guy seems pretty good so far.

Same old song and dance that has killed franchise after franchise, it's so fucking boring and repetitive now.

Some old franchise puts women and/or people of color at the front and center, people complain for other reasons but women and/or people of color are used as a shield against criticism.

Then the original fanbase leaves and the new "woke" one is only a fraction of the original and the franchise is hurt financially, rinse, repeat.

I also love cult like they are in using all those little phrases like "fridged" and just assuming everyone knows what the fuck that means.

I don't know how much harder you can pander to ethnic minorities than this.

Dr (((Who))).webm

This clip is so fucking creepy, literally rewriting history to serve the party line ala George Orwell.

Nope, I have a soft spot for her as well. I think it started to go off the rails when Danny entered. Even then, when she wasn't getting bogged down in school stuff or relationship stuff, there were still good moments with her. Honestly, aside from being the easiest on the eye companion since Martha (subjective tastes, but both really did it for me), I really liked her character and how fun she was. Smart, too - I really liked that. The Christmas Episode where we first met her properly was a really good episode, I thought. It had a whipcrack script, great villain (who doesn't like Richard E. Grant and they even gave an origin story for the Great Intelligence), fun supporting cast in Strax, Vastra, Jenny. Yes, it's mostly a lighter episode as Christmas ones usually are but it still makes me chuckle. Clara is genuinely intelligent in it. Not wibbly-wobbly technospeak clever, but actually. Little games like her working out why the Doctor has brought them onto the roof and his delight in meeting someone again who challenges him and, well, plays with him. Matt and Jenna had great chemistry. I'm pretty certain at the end of one episode when he's polishing the TARDIS's console with a chamois leather and she's bending over it, he thwaks her on the bottom with it as he walks by. Her face is... playful.

Yeah, I'm not going to apologise for liking Clara. She was what was needed after how heavy the Amy Pond arc got. A return to fun, delight and interesting one-off stories and she was a great character to do that. If they saddled her with some overly heavy dragged out plotting and forced her into an unnecessary messiah arc the actress still did her best to make the character engaging.

To Hell with it, I'm going to go full Sperg and give you my favourite companions here. In no particular order but limiting it only to the ones I really like:

Jamie and Victoria. Technically two companions but I always think of them together. Their interactions were fantastic.

Fred. Or Romanadovoratrelundar to you. Specifically Romana I. Whilst Lalla Ward's Romana was pretty and still a great character, Mary Tam had the best moments I felt and brought something really special to the role. I think Tom Baker had a crush on Lalla Ward as well or at least I got that sense. Which slightly changed the dynamic with the Doctor being subtly deferential to her. Whereas with Tamm's Romana there was this constant low-grade power play which I loved.

I'd love to show a clip of her here but the BBC is really aggressive about taking down clips and she's not as famous as NuWho companions so it's hard to find one that isn't just photos covered with music.

Donna Noble. Probably the most love her or hate her one on my list but I think Catherine Tate was hilarious in her run. You had fantastic episodes like Midnight (admittedly she wasn't in that) or Partners in Crime and Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead.

Clara Oswald. Don't care! Like her even if they did bog her down from Capaldi's entrance onwards. She's a good actress and was a fun partner to Matt Smith. And she could do emotion well when asked. Cold War was a great, Classic style Doctor Who episode and it would not be the same without her. The Crimson Horror is again a brilliant classic Who episode. People like how Donna came without all the baggage and drama of Martha or Rose. But Clara did the same - she treated the Doctor well as a friend and companion.

Adric. No, just kidding. Had you for a moment there, didn't I?

Liz Shaw. Companion to the Third Doctor. Eventually left off-screen because the Doctor "just wanted someone to hand him his test-tubes and tell him how brilliant he was". Liked her loads.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Martha Jones. Let's be honest here, I fancied the pants off her. I also thought Freema Agyeman was a good actress and liked the character as a person. Got saddled with some bad lines and heavy plotting.
  • Rory's Dad. Not really a companion exactly, but liked him in Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and him looking down on Earth at the end was beautiful. Would have been a hilarious change of tempo if he'd stayed on for a few episodes.
  • Nardole. The best thing in a bad run. (Barring the Missy and the Master). It's funny because I never liked Matt Lucas in any comedy thing I ever saw him in but he was quite endearing in this. He should try being unfunny more often, he can actually act a bit.
  • Mel Bush. But strictly and only on the Big Finish audios where somehow she's not annoying.
  • Nyssa. A rather po-faced character but the actress was a lovely person and stripped down to her nightie in her last episode to "treat the fans".

This purity measure of PC will kill off so called woke shows because it's never good enough for the target audience and everyone else has already left. No one I know watched Dr Who over the holidays. A massive tradition event of Christmas telly has taken a nosedive.

You can't have GAY villains and GAY people can't die! (Nevermind all the unnamed presumably straight people who die all the time) Galbrush theory in action.
That's why this line:

The decision was broadly met with praise, but in darker corners of the internet the argument that the show has become too politically correct rages on.

Is actually backward. The praisers are living in the dark corners since they are the minority.

I 100% agree on every of these choices. Nardole seems rather underrated.

Back to Clara though, she as a character would work better imo if we stuck with Victorian era one, have her arc be that she is just as alien as doctor in the modern world, have her trying to be him and have her die in the raven ep. as consequence

Oh and I forgot to mention another element, the "woke" audience you go for is not only insignificant in numbers, it will also never be pleased no matter what you do, as this proves, it's literally only a matter of time until you piss them off because they exist to complain, to piss and moan, they don't exist to be happy or satisfied.

Seriously, it's such a tired ass formula by now, it's just fucking tired.

It's a new decade, time to tell these freaks and weirdos to fuck off already.

I stopped watching Doctor Who the moment The Doctor regenerated into a women, I knew from that point on the show was going to turn to utter shit.
F

I never watched the revival because something irked me about the show choosing to continue dogshit-stupid scenarios, like finding out there was an Agatha Christie episode where she had a wasp alien butler.

This stuff just makes me feel better about that decision. Wait a few years and it'll be Doctor Troon.

At the very least I envy you for not having one of your favorite shows be ruined (talking about the revival specifically, not the series as a whole). The old doctor who was good but I liked the revival way better, it had a more modern feel to it.

Ah yes..I remember that episode, I actually thought it was pretty good. Not the best by any means, but certainly not bad. The revival certainly has it's flaws, don't get me wrong, but it's still really really good..at least up until recently. I especially liked 9 and 10, with 11th coming in at a close 3rd, and everything after that taking a huge nosedive. 12 being mostly shit but having some cool/memorable moments.

I suppose it depends on what kind of campiness you enjoy, but it's that kind of thing which means I hold more respect for shows like Stargate, which involved virtually no go-back-to-the-real-human-era stories, than I do for Doctor Who. The Daleks and the Cybermen were remarkably good innovations to come out of the show, and those were the parts I most enjoyed in my limited view of the classic show.

I understand it was basically British proto-Star Trek where they go to all sorts of crazy locations and do things beyond your wildest dreams (and whatever fit into the leftover props they had for the week), but Star Trek matured and created scenarios in their own universe with few exceptions. Doctor Who just continued to fuck with human history and say, "oh, this was an alien all along!" Back in the classic era it made sense - gotta save money somehow. Nowadays with a bigger budget and better technology available it comes across as being stingy.

But I digress: having your favourite series fall into the clutches of the PC crowd is shitty no matter who is exposed to it. I just consider myself lucky on this one.

Victorian Clara was the original intended companion, The Name of the Doctor ending even featured her heavily), Neil Gaiman was expecting to write an episode with her until told otherwise, and then they changed it around for god knows what reason.
