The Sleeper Awakes by H.G. Welles is pretty great. I think he wrote it when he was relatively young, sometime during college and then edited it later. For something that came out in the 1900s you see some interesting predictions and parallels. It has a weird premise and you have to suspend some disbelief but it's a fun ride.Any suggestions, mein herr?
Also, The Farms better not go down before DenFur.

I don't think you're going to get a lot of deep philosophical insights out of it aside from "People with power get pissed off when they might lose it", but it's a fun book.
