The basic sentiment is something like, 'I totally support freedom of speech, now how can I undermine it until it no longer has any meaning in practice?' The word 'consequences' here is used in the sense that a schoolmaster with a cane in an old novel might have said that actions have consequences. Albeit here it is probably a soyboy flexing his elbow and clenching his fist in a failed attempt at machismo, while living vicariously through corporate censorship and the feds.I’m wondering: when they say “freedom of speech doesn’t mean freedom from consequences”, what consequences do they mean? The consequences for speaking about what they don’t like?
There's some irony to it, because the left will continually attempt to narrow the boundaries of speech and astroturf troon outrage mobs. Is that a consequence of the speech, or of the modern left?
