Duke Nukem Forever 2001 Build Discussion

You could say this about all leaked gaming shit, though.
I'm just speaking for myself obviously but as someone of the right age, right demographic and right fandom (god I played so much Duke multiplayer on 56K back in the day) I can say that the last time I thought about this stupid IP was probably 10 years ago.

Like we are all old fags. 2001 is in the fucking title FFS.

Duke's been an evergreen meme throughout the entire life of the internet though

does anyone have that one where he says "Okay, maybe the Holocaust did happen... but it wasn't six million"?

I'm glad Slash000 from some forum somewhere will finally get to play the very game that prompted him to preorder 21 years ago

This article shall best answer those questions of DNF's troubled development.

TLDR: Brossard kept switching engines as he wanted DNF to be "THE next best FPS yet." Take Two couldn't do much about it (yet) as DNF was self funded.
I think it had a lot to do with the DNF team wanting to 1up whatever big huge game was out at the time. Basically whenever a new game came out that caused a cultural phenomenon like Half Life, Halo and Gears of War, Brossard wanted DNF to be even bigger than those games.

He wasn't attacking him, just making a blunt statement of facts.

I love how Broussard just dismissed this piece of gaming history as nothing because he missed his time in the sun based on his bloated perfectionism.

He sounds mad as hell that he let his passion project slip AND had several employees laid off.
I was giving Broussard the benefit of the doubt on his first post about this, but nah, he's being a salty bitch.

This was so cool to experience. Teenage me is satisfied.

This is only going to be worth your time if you’re a hardcore fan of the series and follower it’s sordid development. There is very little game to be played here. To me, it was like unearthing and being able to witness a piece of lost gaming history, unearthing a relic of the past; a virtual museum tour. The “holy shit” factor of getting the thing running and warping around the unfinished levels was good enough for me.

My personal holy grail of gaming was realized. I don’t even care that it is mostly incomplete, it was amazing to see for the short period of time. If there is an intrepid group of developers out there who will flesh this thing out, I’ll give it another whack When It’s Done(tm).
It's a great holy grail to have, much like the XBOX 360 version of Goldeneye. I don't need anything else now.

That game actually has a leaked copy!?
I've never seen evidence of one. There was a lot of talk about it when the 2020 Nintendo Gigaleaks were happening, but there were no signs of internal HAL Labs stuff showing up.

I'd be more inclined to believe that someone out there has it, if something like Kirby 64's source or prototypes started appearing.
