Who knew that a bunch of people overly dedicated to an IP that is 30 years old would be a bunch of fucking weirdos and troons, its almost like you can never really trust the community of these games. Its been shown with games like Doom, Half-Life, or anything considered "old" is pretty much overrun by undesirables.

Generally you're right but the Doom community is alright from my experience, a bit nerdy but not really full of lolcows or anything. It's Sega and Nintendo games that tend to attract the giga-autists

Duke Nukem's humor is like Weird Al's, you can always update it to whatever's going on in pop culture today. Duke could just as easily spoof on woke entertainment and the MCU as he did the action movies of the late 80s and early 90s.

Trouble is he didn't just spoof them, he let you play them in video game form. Duke3d is an over-the-top parody of action movies in video game form, making it equal parts homage as it is parody. Blasting literal Pig Cops and then pissing on their corpses, pipe bombs, cigars, saving the day and getting the babes... we got to be Big Action Heroes.

One of the best jokes from Duke3d is one that goes mostly unnoticed unless you were a local to the area. In Duke3d, I forget which map, but there’s a big black building that you blow up in grand Build engine fashion that’s labeled “East Town Tower”, which is a play on “Town East Tower” where id was located (3D Realms was based in Garland, only a few minutes down the road from id in Mesquite). When you blow it up, Duke says “I ain’t afraid of no Quake.”

I've only heard of something like that happening once, and oddly enough it was for a Sonic fan game.

Sonic 2 HD had DRM when they released an Alpha of it that also came with a keylogger that anti-viruses were picking up the instant people downloaded it to their computers. This was back in 2012 though.

That one wasn't the only one. Funny enougj, it was another Sonic fan game, Sonic Gather Battle. It had a keylogger too, and If you typed anything like "Gather Battle Cheats" in a web browser, it would close the browser, and then go into a DRM mode where these invincible enemies spawn and kill you. Beyond that, the creator has the ability to download shit to your computer personally
