The opening line to this article is "This is a list of terrorist attacks in France from 1800 to the present." A not so subtle attempt at sanitizing the language in the title about a taboo subject. Reminds me of how articles on race riots are listed as "ethnic conflicts" when not a single person on earth refers to them as such.

Somehow it carefully cuts the date off to avoid something literally called "The Terror."

I think it means like, being close to a person on a level that would otherwise be romantic or sexual. But again, that ignores and cheapens the existence of being extremely close with someone, it assumes that friends just can't be that close without wanting to have sex.
