Dumb Shit on Wikipedia

Wikipedia was really frustrated that I replaced the image of Asperger's syndrome, which was a boy studying a complex molecular structure, with a boy stacking cans. Thing is though, there is no evidence that autistic interests are complex, or that all people with specialized interests are autistic. They made TWO threads on that . They should be grateful I didn't use ED's pic of Chris-Chan (which is far more accurate IMO) https://encyclopediadramatica.se/Asperger_syndrome

Threads:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.ph...age_is_bullcrap.2C_and_I_have_the_reasons_why
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Talk:Asperger_syndrome&oldid=726424905#Lead_image

I replaced it again though with a picture of Dr. Hans Asperger, who first described Asperger's syndrome.

One good thing is that I finally got the "Retrospective Diagnoses of Autism" page deleted, because it doesn't make sense to diagnose every famous scientist in history with autism. The evidence for retrospective diagnoses is very vague.

And no, I'm not self-diagnosed. That paragraph was taken out of context.

This thread isn't a battleground for your personal wikipedia war.

A picture of weird-looking Labour weirdo Ed Miliband eating a bacon sandwich has an article on Wikipedia.

How is an internet meme that has only been somewhat relevant for a few months deserve a page?

10 years ago Jimbo Wales himself had to step in to resolve a dispute over whether "Brian Peppers" deserved a wiki page. He declared a moratorium on the subject for a year, in which wikispergs declared that they would mark their calendar. I wonder what that calendar reminder would say "REMINDER- FIGHT 4 YTMND MEMES ON WIKIPEDIA!!"

It was about that time I stepped away from the community.

To be fair, there are a lot of meaningful things to be said about this. Miliband was consistent portrayed as something of a doofus, even by labour supporters. This was not very hard, since, well, he looks like something of a doofus. This particular picture was probably the most oft-repeat example of that.

I mean, this was really the front page of The Sun:

Yeah, it's The Sun. But still...

All of this raises somewhat troublesome questions on the functioning of modern parliamentary democracy... Unfortunately it seems that Douglas Adams was right and we're on the road to electing flamboyant and incompetent two-headed idiots from small planets in the vicinity of Betelgeuse as our leaders... I can only hope there's an old man in a shack somewhere...
